Cleansing of the Orb of Orahil

Kill the Demon of the Orb, then speak with Tabetha.
  •
Demon of the Orb slain

Description

Ah, a summoner's orb--this is where the taint must be coming from. We must exorcise the demon within it if you're to use it. That I can do easily.

You're the one who has the hard job. You must kill the demon once I release it.

And you'll have to be quick. If you take too long then he'll return to the orb and we'll have to start over!

So get yourself ready, <name>. Prepare your strongest spells and keep your potions handy, and go get a friend if you have one. Because this isn't going to be pretty.

Is it that hard? I just completed it at lv38 alone. First I looked around the vicinity for any mob and took out a spider and raptor.

I had VW out to tank the demon, but big blue couldn't hold aggro for more than 30 sec, so I sacrificed him for shield and nuked all out. When the shield drops, it was Fear time. Keep the demon feared and don't stop shadowbolting it always refresh your DoTs and Fear when they wear off.

The demon hit me for 80-130, but I have 2,100 HP with all +stamina gears, so I could take lots of beatings. In the end I came out with 70% life, almost depleted mana, and about 50 secs left.

Not hard at all... if you know your warlock spells and use them properly. =)

Talk to Tabetha (46,57) and she will take you outside.

Set your Void to aggresive

Curse him
(i used curse of Agony, corruption and immolate)

fear him

shadowbold him

do this over and over again and ofcourse within the given 2,5 min

did this at level 38.
no pots... i am not a good player but this is pretty easy to do solo. Did not use bandage or stone.

I just finished this today at lv 38.&nbsp Used my Voidwalker, with a soulstone and healthstone ready.&nbsp Tip:&nbsp Clear out the spider and jelly thing before you fight him so you dont draw them in when using banish or fear.&nbsp I didnt bother with either one the second time around.&nbsp Just kept my curses going and used shadowbolt.

The first time I did this, I failed.&nbsp I abandoned the quest, and the ! over Tabitha's head returned within a few seconds.

Lets make it clear, coz with all these comments, nobody has said what to do if you fail.

When you fail, you go back to tabatha, and she has a grey (!)mark. You can talk to her, but can not get the quest again.

You must abandon the failed quest. The (!)mark will then change to Yellow, and you can talk to her and get the quest again.

Done as an affliction specc'ed level 40.&nbsp I used the VW, but you really should use the pet you are most comfortable with and that suits your playing style.&nbsp Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it with this one or with that one.&nbsp This is just what worked for me, as I'm not into fearing a target and then chasing him around while he possibly aggros everything in sight.&nbsp I like a pet that tanks while I pile on the damage from the sidelines.

Anyways, I killed one spider on my way in, then followed her out to summon the demon.&nbsp I got inside the walled area and put my back to the house.&nbsp As soon as he was summoned, I sent in VW, and dropped all DoTs on him, along with Curse of the Elements.&nbsp VW and I never moved, so we never had a chance to aggro other wandering mobs.&nbsp Never touched fear, and he never laid a fist on me.&nbsp I let VW tank while I blasted him with my wand, conserving as much mana as possible.&nbsp When DoTs expired and VW health was starting to dip low, I reapplied the DoTs and used Health Funnel to get VW back up to speed healthwise.&nbsp I used wand to finish him off, and had close to a minute left to spare.&nbsp

Use a voidwalker, stick the voidwalker on the demon and essentially don't do anything until you see like 3 or 4 torments land. Apply dots and start wanding him. Whenever the voidwalker gets low on hps - banish the demon and health funnel big blue to full. Reapply dots when banish wears off.

If you run low on mana, banish the demon, lifetap and bandage.

I soloed this quest at level 38 without using any pet, potions, bandages or healthstones.

Basically what you do is Enslaving the demon, send it to pull 4 of the nearby mobs (spiders, crocodiles, etc.) and just wait till he is dead. Done, without doing anything!

LOCATION
Tabetha is at (46,57) in Duskwallow Marsh. Dowload a mapmod if you don't have one to get the location. Try the CT mod package.

BEFORE talking to Tabetha
The fight takes place in the paddock next to the house. Clear the surrounding area, there should be 2 Spiders and maybe 1 Tree-person and 1 Crocodile. These mobs can help him kill you. Make sure you have your health stone, soulstone if its up, and are free of any poisons the mobs might have given you. Bring out your imp, then get yourself to full health and mana.

Go inside and talk to Tabetha
She will walk outside the house and go to the paddock next to it, then release your demon.

The fight (Its easy, dont let the other posters scare you)
Immolate, FEAR, corruption, curse of agony. Set imp after him when your third dot is up. Your imp will run around after him, keeping your DPS up when he is out of range for you. Refear each time it breaks and he runs back at you. When he moves out of range, move in closer. You only need to wand him. Reapply dots as needed. If you keep fearing him, he will die, and you should have nearly full health unless you are life tapping. Feel free to bandage while hes feared if you need to. Shouldn't need to pot.

When he is dead go back inside the house and talk to Tabetha. She will give you a cleansed orb.

My spec is 5.12.10 (or somewhere around there). I play with high latency (500ms+ constantly, from AU on US server), just so you know it can be done. Its best to do this quest all at once because some people have found that peices disappear when you log out.

Hope this helps!

I managed to solo the quest at level 36 without any help, just make sure you clear out some mobs around the area first as any adds will own you. Made a quick video so you can all see how I did it. I'm specced for Siphon Life with 7 points going in Demonology for the improved healthstone and demonic imbrace. You just can't beat 3 instant dots.

I tried soloing this thing at lvl 36 and managed to do it somehow.&nbsp I just used my VW to keep agro and threw my DOT's on him.&nbsp When VW got low oh HP I pulled him back, used fear, made sure DOT's were still good, and bandaged my VW...rinse and repeat...:P&nbsp

I did have a problem after killing him though.&nbsp Once I killed him and went to talk to Tabitha...err...whatever her name is...it emediatly said "quest failed".&nbsp I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else as of yet...&nbsp I seen the post where someone said that you just have to abandon the quest and wait for the little yellow ! to come back over her head again...but the orb isn't in my inventory anymore.&nbsp The quest shows that I've already killed the demon.

I just want to make sure that if I drop this quest it will let me get it again...I worked a little to hard to just give up one it.&nbsp :)&nbsp Any help would be much appreciated.&nbsp Thanks!

I decided to give it a shot and predicted I would get owned. But nope, I soloed it at level 38 (affliction spec) easily. didn't use HS, pots or fear. Simply sent in the succubus, loaded him up on DoTs (including siphon life) and then just spammed drain life the entire fight. he went down easy, and my health never went under 85%. You should be able to kill him at level 38 easily. If you run OOM (which I didn't), just life tap, and you'll still be fine.

I was a level 37 warlock at the time. Here's what I did. I had my VW out, and had it attack it first, dropped all my DoTs on the demon, the spammed shadowbolt. It switched aggro to me, I used my healthstone, kept spamming, used a greater mana potion, was almost dead, sacrificed the VW (it can't break the shield), and finished off the demon.

It's basically an elite doomguard. Very nasty, was doing 200 damage per hit.

39 warlock, heavy in destruction with the "ruin" 100% crit dmg bonus, using a voidwalker, I shadowburned, immolate, corrupt and agony, keeping those on the demon until he is almost to half life, maybe a bit more, then unloaded with shadow bolts. I was also funneling life to the voidwalker. I finished him off with almost a minute to spare.

Done as 36 destro. Used minor mana (yes, minor...forgot to put the big guns in my action bar beforehand), healthstone, scroll of stam II (just on me, not the void), and elixir of wisdom.

Played it pretty badly, forgot to let void build aggro so he basically did nothing and I had to keep the demon feared the whole time. Resisted about 4 times in a row once which hurt, but the rest of the time it hit pretty reliably. Ran out of mana once so had to tap and bandage during a fear (again played badly, didn't have time to do the full bandage before he came back). Never at serious risk of death, biggest problem was time; killed with 18 seconds left, got back to Tabetha at like 6 seconds, was really worried I'd miss clicking through the quest somewhere, but got it at the last second (and dinged!). Had to wand at the end because of mana and was too scared to life tap at mid-low health. Also never worried about adds, even with the void chasing the guy around the whole time, never had any problems.

SO if I can do it with all those screwups and destro spec, you can do it too :)

Agreed. Just did it at 37, the "safe way"--with my Voidwalker. Send him in and use DoTs to drain away at his health. Use Health Funnel as needed to keep the VW punching away, and watch your threat. Required one mana potion.

This is a slow process, however, so keep an eye on the quest timer.

I also use life drain and drain soul which i have talen points in dmage and affliction. The hardest part was trying to find tabetha and the adds i gotten getting to her. The spiders and crocs i kept getting looking for her but i used eye of kilrog to locate her in her house which is how i found her. I had i min and 20 secs left aftewr i slayed demon. it was but i had a sword and the off hand summoned item nad kept whacking him with that until he was dead.

just completed this one with the help of a L44 rogue. Wasn't too bad, but I did die the first time. Why, oh why, didn't I go with the VW the first time, I'll never know.

Although, there is now a Horde Warlock on Kel'Thuzad who owes me one, in a way. He came into the house after finishing the quest half dead and I was standing right there, fully ready to throw down, but I felt a moment of pity for some reason and decided to leave him be. I even asked the rogue I was pt'ing with not to kill him. Just return the favor some day. )

So at lvl 38 I got my backside handed to me when I first tried to do this. I relied mostly on my DoT's & my voidwalker. Plus the way tend to use my warlock is to be next to the creature so that if I'm not casting, I'll get a hit in with my weapon.

I came back later after going on a Scarlet Monastery run with my guild.

This time at lvl 39 & scanning the stategies given here. On my way to Tabatha's house I collected soul shards, had like 20 when I got there. I created a healthstone. I had a scroll of protection III, agility & strength. As Tabatha summoned him I cast all the scrolls. When he arrived I sicced the voidwalker on him, stepped back, then hit him with DoTs shadow bolts & shadow burns. Twice I used heath funnel to bost my voidwalker's health. Once the voidwalker lost aggro i sacraficed him for sheild & contimued to hit the demon with shadow bolt & shadow burn & redid the DoT's.

Just as I was getting worried about my heath & was going to use my healthstone, the demon died. The fight went quick & looking at my soul shard collection I had used only 5.

Looking at it, if I had done this same stratagey before at lvl 38, I would have not died.

I soloed this as a lvl 38 Human Warlock.

Now if you're my level don't think DoT only will kill him.
The DoT will build up so much hate that when the demon actually comes onto you your voidwalker he will not be able to get it off. (At 38 the demon hit me for 100-200)

Now what I did: You are gonna need about 10-15 soul shards.Make sure you are specced for Shadow burn (max rank). Before the fight I popped a soulstone resurrection on myself and made a healthstone. I summoned a voidwalker and had a few greater mana potions. Then I rested to full health and mana. I accepted the quest and Tabetha walked out and summoned the demon. I had 2mins and 38 secs left. I attacked the demon with my voidwalker and backed up. I health funneled to pet from the start and kept refreshing dot until void lost hate at about 47%. So I Immediately did Shadowburn. Then fear. Then Shadowbolt. Then shadowburn and fear while hes walking back to you.
By the time he gets back fear should be almost ready. So you fear him again and shadow bolt shadow burn. Then while hes running back to you get shadowbolt casting and hit him. Soon he should start attacking, when you get to low health pop healthstone and then sacrifice your voidwalker. The demon should be at about 20-25% Immediately do these spells in order. Shadowburn.
Shadowbolt. Do these repeatedly until you down him.
*If anything banish him and summon a voidwalker again if you need the sacrifice.

I was doing *decent* until the VW ceased to pull aggro off of me, and then suddenly a swamp ooze came out of nowhere and started aiding the demon in attacking me. Quest is fairly simple. To solve some problems...

This is not the quest to get an Infernal summon. That is a different quest around 50 or so. This is the quest to get an orb or staff that has the properties of shadow (felhound orb) or fire (infernal orb). They are decent items, so I think its worth it.

If you die fighting the demon, no big deal. You do NOT have to go back to Desolace for another orb, you do NOT have to start all the quest line over, you do NOT have to go back to Menara and talk to her acolytes again or get three more levels to have another attempt.

All you have to do to retry it is to abandon the quest (will say Failed on it, so just abandon it) then talk to Tabetha again afterwards (after dropping that quest) and she'll have it listed again as selectable. Just choose it and do it again.

Clear the area of adds, no matter what. A stupid raptor interrupted my fight, and I actually HAD already cleared the area once. I must have missed it. That run back from the graveyard was a loooong one.

Good luck.

I wasn't as smart as some people and should have known better to clean up potential adds first... do that. My VD held aggro that entire time. I do have improved health funnel 2. When the spider aggroed I knew i had no choice but to Dot and fear it and hope for the best. Luckly no other adds came. Boss and spider went down about the same time 10 seconds left.
