Shard of a Felhound

Take the Felhas Ruby and use it on one of the Felhounds found in Desolace. After successful, bring the Felhas Ruby and the Imprisoned Felhound Spirit back to Menara Voidrender in the Barrens.

Description

So, you have chosen to capture the soul of a felhound, good.

Take this ruby--with it, you will be able to capture the creature's soul. It works very similar to spells you already know: when the creature is close to dying, use the gem and it should do the rest of the work for you.

I would suggest going to Desolace and trying your hand at any of the felhounds there. Those should do nicely.

After you're successful, take both the captured spirit and your ruby to Menara.

The quest given by the acolytes are for quest rewards.

Inferno quest off the acolyte - +fire damage orb/staff

Felhound quest off the acolyte - +shadow damage orb/staff

The felhunter pet quest is COMPLETELY different and can be obtained at level 30.
The infernal pet quest is COMPLETELY different and can be obtained at level 50.

Ok..here's what's important, and what you need to know (disregard a lot of what is above..it's too confusing).
To capture the soul of a felhound...find a maneater at 52:67 in Desolace...and use the ruby in the same way that you use your Drain Soul. You need to be using the ruby as the mana eater dies, and you will gain the imprisoned felhound spirit, just like you gain a soul shard.

Head back to Ratchet and hand it in.

FAQs...

1. No, you cannot get both quests.

2. Yes, it does matter what quest you do, they both reward a staff and an offhand. If you chose the Felhound quest, both the rewards have +Shadow Damage. If you chose the Infernal quest, both the rewards have +Fire Damage.

3. Both of these quests are at Mannoroc Cavern in Desolace, East of Shadoyprey Village.

4. The Felhounds are called Mana Eaters and The Infernals are called Lesser Infernals.

5. The&nbsp Ruby is used just like Drain Life spell, but it dosent do any damage, so put enouogh DOTS up to kill em.

There's two options at this point, one on each side of the room behind Menara. Each quest leads to a different choice of offhand or staff.

The undead chick offers Shard of a Felhound which leads to the shadow damage offhand or staff, the orc chick offers Shard of an Infernal which leads to the fire damage offhand or staff.

it really does have it all:

all the right answers from smrt people,
a whole bunch of wrong information from noobs,
the same question repeated by yet more noobs.

Summary:

Felhound <> Felhunter
Felhunters can be your loyal pet, but not from this quest
Felhounds can be your slave, but will never love you
Choose the staff, orbs are for girls
Things are not always wot they seem, find Mage Hunters in south-central Desolace.

It just needs to be a felhound model, the name doesn't actually have to be named "Felhound".&nbsp Just use the Ruby to drain the soul of either a Ley Hunter or Mage Hunter.

Just kill any of the Felhunter 'like' creepers there. Before it dies use the Ruby as you would do with Drain Soul to get the spirit.

When given the choice between capturing the soul of an Inferno or a Felhound there's not too much description on the actual benefits of one path versus the other, just some vague references. Does anyone have the actual attribute(s) or stats gained/improved of both paths? Could you post?

Its simple

Go south in Desolace,
Find a felhound,
When u find it: drain the shard from him using the gem, just like u create a soulshard. The felhound must die during chanelling , otherwise u will not retrieve the shard.

In the Felhound quest, you are looking for a Felhunter that is in Desolace.&nbsp There is one called a "Mana Eater", and They are located around the Mannoroc Coven. TLOC 52,68. When you find one, you will need to attack it and use the "Felhas Ruby" (the quest item that you got from Ratchet) just like you use "Drain Soul" to collect shards. Rright click the Ruby to finish them off and collect your quest item.&nbsp The quest should now be complete. Return to Rachet to complete the quest.

DONT FORGET TO GET YOUR FLIGHT PATH AT SHADOWPREY VILLAGE

I too did drain the felhound but didn't get anything except exp when I turned the quest in.
I can still do the infernal quest though.. Don't understand this :D

Ok for those lost. You never get the chance to summon a felhound, however you do get a chance to summon an infernal. You can also get a doomguard. These are not like your current pets and can only be held for about 5 minutes before attacking you. This quest simply gives you either a Staff or an orb. The only pets you get are Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter, Infernal, and Doomguard. Plus your mounts.

Not sure how everyone else fares running through infernos and summoner's, I found that running around the lake and entering through the gap in hills at 46,81 put me right on the side of the area with felhounds without running into any opposition.

They are found in south-central Desolace directly south of the Kodo Graveyard. Mouse-over the critters that look just like Felhunters they'll be identified as "Mana Eaters".
Have your Felhas Ruby ready by dragging it to your taskbar.
Attack the Mana Eater as you would any other creature...just before it dies click on your ruby to steal it's soul.

Look good in all your bags if you get the quest for the ruby. if you ggot it go to desolace and north at the mannoroc coven are Manaeaters (looks like felhunter) and you need to use the ruby like drain soul.

I completed this quest with my 42 warlock. I took the cleaned ruby and the imprisoned soul shard back to Menara but all I got was 2250 xp. I received no orb or staff/wand. This sucks as I took alot of time doing it and got really nothing in return. I wonder if the quest is broken? Does anyone know if I can do it again? Thanks for any and all assistance.

far as i can tell from reading about the main quest that this is a part of,if you took the orb to dustwallow marsh and cleansed it by killing the demon,the orb or staff you get is the end of the quest,her telling you to go to acolytes again is a glitch

you dont have to bring both at once.on my main on greymane i took her the felhound ruby first,and freaked when she said i had to talk to the acolytes and bring both at once,but no worries,i went ahead and cleansed the orb and brought it to hrer,game remmebered i had done first part and gave me the shadow orb as reward.still using it at lv52,doing now on main on whisperwind

So I'm confused, I recieved the orb as reward from Voidrender but I thought that I was supposed to get another minion out of this quest. Why else did I have to choose between a felhound and burning thingy?

Oh yea and the imprizoned felhound spirit is gone and Voidrender is asking me to talk to the acolites which I did already but they don't have ? above their heads.

Ok, have the quest "Shard of a Felhound" - says to use the ruby on the felhounds in Desolace. Where are the felhounds? I'm in Mannoroc Coven, with the Burning Blade Summoners, and all the other demons, there are lesser infernals, Lesser Maidens, mana hunters, and Doomguards...but no felhounds. Where are they? Or are the doomguards "Felhounds" liek the lesser Maidens are "Succubi"?

i was wrong.this is a sub part of the master quest.while you are ther egetting shard,get your infernal orb off a summoner,take that to be cleansed and THEN bring both to menara.i didnt,i brought shard and ruby to her.she took them and gave exp,but told me i had to talk to acolytes again,and bring both items at once. But you cant talk to them again,,and no more ? over her head.so if you dont bring both at same time,you are screwed,i abandoned quest.on way to sw to see if i can get again.

Hi,

I returned the Cleansed Orb to Menara and got my reward. After that she told me to talk to her acolytes in the tower about felhound/infernal quest. The acolytes (two) gives me descriptions of the felhound and the infernal respectively, but don't hand out quests. When I speak to Menara again, she only refers me back to the acolytes. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm lvl 40.

I used the ruby on a Ley Hunter, which looks like a Felhunter. The quest can be a bit misleading, as I was looking for a "mob" named "Felhound." These are found in Mannoroc Coven, in the SOUTH end of Desolace, centered between the Gelkis and Magram Villages.

i did it once, and failed to get orb clensed. aftr that I was fubared. I dropped quest thinking I couls start over.

Can anyone help me get this quest again. I am a lvl 44 now, and should have no problem completing. just cant find the beginning of the damn thing.

You are right, i put the gem on my action bar and used like drain soul. I killed a lvl 38 Mana Eater looks like felhound. Then it said created "Imprisoned Felhound Spirit" Quest completed. There are 2 in Desolace, that I found pretty quickly.Im not standing at 53, 67 almost near the Kodo Graveyard. Depending on your lvl kill either the 37 or the 38. I also used my VW which easily kept him off me. took less than 30 secs.

I don't like this quest, why do I have to run so far, having no flight point, all the way from Ratchet to the south of desolace... walking... for just something less than 1 kill? this kind of annoys me...

if you turn the ruby in (with the captured soul) before you get the orb cleansed by Tabatha you can still complete the quest. i turned in ruby and realized i'd goofed as she wants both at once. i took the orb over to Tabatha, did the cleansing (with help). returned to Rachet and turned it in to Menara and completed the steps and got the quest done.
