Shard of an Infernal

Take the Infus Emerald and use it on one of the Infernals found in Desolace. After successful, bring the Infus Emerald and the Imprisoned Infernal Spirit back to Menara Voidrender in the Barrens.

Description

So, you have chosen to capture the soul of an infernal, good.

Take this emerald--with it, you will be able to capture the creature's soul. It works very similar to spells you already know: when the creature is close to dying, use the gem and it should do the rest of the work for you.

I would suggest going to Desolace and trying your hand at any of the infernals there. Those should do nicely.

After you're successful, take both the captured spirit and your emerald to Menara.

FAQs...

1. No, you cannot get both quests.

2. Yes, it does matter what quest you do, they both reward a staff and an offhand. If you chose the Felhound quest, both the rewards have +Shadow Damage. If you chose the Infernal quest, both the rewards have +Fire Damage.

3. Both of these quests are at Mannoroc Cavern in Desolace, East of Shadoyprey Village.

4. The Felhounds are called Mana Eaters and The Infernals are called Lesser Infernals.

5. The&nbsp Ruby is used just like Drain Life spell, but it dosent do any damage, so put enouogh DOTS up to kill em.

1) Fly to Shadowprey Village in Desolace

2) Go to Monoroc Coven, south of Kodo Graveyard

3) About 50,73-74 should be about 3 Lesser Infernal of those Merene talks about.

4) Use the shard as if you used the Drain Life-spell and it'll work!

And that took me, all-in-all, about 10 minutes with flying and all...

There's two options at this point, one on each side of the room behind Menara. Each quest leads to a different choice of offhand or staff.

The undead chick offers Shard of a Felhound which leads to the shadow damage offhand or staff, the orc chick offers Shard of an Infernal which leads to the fire damage offhand or staff.

Ok. I read everyone's comments and just about everyone asked "can i choose the infernal and the felhound or just 1" DUDE! When you turned in the first quest and then turned it in to the Manera girl, it clearly said for you to pick one of the quests from the acolytes. ONE! I had to comment on this.

Funny how after all this time no-one answered the question if you could get both =)

I think it's safe to say NO, you can't do both.

You might notice that if you accept one of the quests (either "Shard of Felhound" or "Shard of an Infernal"), you can't accept the other quest from the opposite acolyte.

curse of doom has a chance of summoning a doomguard, its not guaranteed. also, you dont get an orb for the felhunter or a staff for the infernal. each quest will allow you to choose from a staff or orb, but depending on which soul you captured, the item will add shadow or fire damage.

I found this quest to be quite easy.&nbsp I would like to comment on the quest for the infernal itself though.&nbsp It is quite fun and funny, when you reach lvl 50 go to fellwood, just south of shatter scar vale, there u will find a gnome and an imp, the imps name is impsy, i can't remember the gnomes name.&nbsp You have to do a few quests for them but the end result is worth videotaping.&nbsp Oh and the lvl 55 elite u have to kill is just north of where those two are in a little gully, and u have to rez him then kill him.&nbsp I was a level 53 and had to have help to kill him, tried to use my vw but to know avail, he is immune to fear, howl of terror. and any fire spell u try to use.&nbsp But like I said the end result is very funny, worth doing the quest for.

Got this quest at 36, picked infernal. Went to des, got the orb and infernal shard and the nreturned. Handed both in to the lady in Ratchet. Then I got 1 bar of shihty xp an its over. No more quests to go to dustwallow, no rewards. its over. wtf!

for all the people wondering about imprisoning an infernal spirit it took me a while to realise its just like getting soul shards, you need to be using the crystal while he dies. hope this helped

you dont get a summon for these quests, you will get to choose either an off-hand item or a staff. each of those items will then have +fire damage or +shadow damage depending on if you choose infernal or felhunter.

annapest's link below shows the reward. the other rewards for shadow are similar except that they boost shadow effects.

This quest confused me for a little bit, but basically you DoT and get the infernals health low like normal, THEN you use the emerald to trap the soul as the infernal dies. You may be able to trap the soul after it's dead, but the way I did it was to trap his soul as he died like you do when you collect soul shards. The biggest difference is you can't rely on the emerald to kill him, so you have to make sure your DoT's/Demon can get cut the rest of his life away.

that quest is only for exp, it doesnt help u summon inferno, u cannot summon inferno until u'r 50....

ok, im a lvl 37 and I completed the infernal quest from the Acolyte and the quest that the woman out front needed to be done.&nbsp For whatever reason it prompted me the same choice between two items TWICE.&nbsp I took the staff both times and for some reason it did not give me the item a second time but it did give me the EXP for both.

Now when I talk to either of the acolytes they just give me a nice little story about something that I already did.&nbsp

I would assume that once I hit the level required *which should be 40 or 50" I should come back and the&nbsp acolytes will be able to give me the ability ?

The whole process is very confusing.

The emerald is named the Infus Emerald and should show up in your inventory provided you have a free slot. You need to make sure that you know to capture a Lesser Infernal. There are no mobs with just Infernal as the name (Blizzard needs to fix this). Also, you have to do it in Mannoroc Coven. I tried first with the Lesser Infernals in Ashenvale and it was a no go.
Note: All the quests you get for Mannoroc Coven are very easy and can be done at lvls as low as 36, it may go lower.

Acolyte Magaz mentioned that she would not proceed until she gets the cleansed orb. I think you have to do the "Cleansing the Orb" quest and then go back to her. Will try that and post if it works ...or not 0.o

Hi,

I returned the Cleansed Orb to Menara and got my reward. After that she told me to talk to her acolytes in the tower about felhound/infernal quest. The acolytes (two) gives me descriptions of the felhound and the infernal respectively, but don't hand out quests. When I speak to Menara again, she only refers me back to the acolytes. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm lvl 40.

I heard there are different rewards, but honestly I can't find the Felhunter-Reward in allakhazam. Rumors in the WL-board are, there are items that amplify you shadow damage if you take the Felhunter-killing-quest. Worth trying..

Ok, I finally found the alternate Questdescription (via a link in the WL-Forum - you guys are really into what you'r doing!) and there IS a bonus on Shadow-damage.

(Quest #4964) alternate is

(Quest #4975) will add Fire-damage.

I believe this quest is bugged.
I did the complete quest. got the shard and the enslaved soul of an infernal back to Rachet.
Only to receive XP and not my brand new summon.

My ticket is still outstanding.........

I gave menara the captured spirit and the infused emerald...and okokok I did the cleansing the orb thing...gave her the cleansed orb .... then she tells me to go and speak to the npc's inside the tent...only they do not have any new quests or anything to say other than repeating the same ole schpeel about the felhound and the infernal. This is just not logical...please if you are also stuck here let Blizzard know so they can fix it...or even better if you have the solution to this puzzle...post it for the rest of us :D

You are supposed to get a summon. I know what I read. I did everything and I had her craft me the orb thing. I talked to her again cause I know I'm supposed to get a summon and she says something like, I cannot complete your orb unless you speak to one of my alyocates inside the tower and complete the tasks they give you. As someone has already said though nothing happens. I already completed the tasts I got after I talked to the chick the first time. I'm will not let this quest go. I'll figure out what needs to be done and I'll repost. If anyone has any info, let me know please.

How do you capture its soul I can't seem to get it to work. Everytime I find one I use the item and then it starts channeling then when it finishes nothing happens.
Do I have to kill it first? Or enslave it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Found out if you wait till his health is about 30% (use mobinfo2) and then you start you should capture his soul.

THe infernals can be teh Lesser Infernals in Mannoroc Coven...they work fine..Dont need the 50+ Infernals
