All Along the Watchtowers

Using the Beacon Torch, mark each tower in Andorhal; you will need to stand in the doorway of the tower to successfully mark it.

Once all four towers are marked, return the Beacon Torch to Commander Ashlam Valorfist in Chillwind Camp, Western Plaguelands.
  •
Tower One marked
  •
Tower Two marked
  •
Tower Three marked
  •
Andorhal Tower Four slain
Provided Item:
Beacon Torch

Description

Through the use of a magical device known as a beacon torch, we can mark targets of our choosing for future actions by our troops. To that end, we think the Scourge are using Andorhal's watchtowers as a means to control their troop movements.

Your mission: breach Andorhal's defenses to plant beacons at all four watchtowers. You'll need to be in the doorway of each tower to plant the beacon; it will then proceed to mark the tower. There are only five charges on the beacon torch, so use them wisely!

Presumably, this is yet another Blizzard reference to pop culture. In this case, it's Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower."

For this, you don't have to fight with the elites inside of the towers. All you need to do is stand outside close to the door and then use the Torch

I found that if you stand just outside the tower doorways that when you throw the torch you will not attract the attention of the Elite's inside the tower.&nbsp This make the quest very simple as you only have to find them (killing 54-55 lvl undead to do so, but with no elites).

Tower 1: 40, 71
Tower 2: 42, 66
Tower 3: 44, 63
Tower 4: 46, 71

They are correct as listed above.

The Beacon Torch will have 1 charge left. It will stay in your inventory even after you turn in the quest. This can be destroyed and will not affect any part of your quest afterwards.

Ride to each tower on mount and FD in the doorway. Hit shadowmeld and wait 30sec for your FD cooldown. Place the beacon. After the beacon is placed you'll come out of shadowmeld and you'll gain aggro from the non-elite and elite guards. FD again. Wait for shadowmeld to finish it's 10 sec cool down and hit shadowmeld again. Now hit your mount. You won't come out of shadowmeld until you're on your mount. Rinse and repeat for each tower. Note there are 5 towers and there is one you won't get credit for. You only have 5 beacons so if you don't get credit for a tower just move on. Otherwise you'll use all your beacons and have to start over.

It's not so hard. Take the road north from Chillwind, the first tower is to your immediate right after entering the ruins. Then leave the ruins again and make your way north along the perimeter, the towers are easily sighted from outside. You will see a road entering the ruins again the second tower being to the immediate right again, and the third just slightly south of that third tower along the same road. For the fourth I went back south to Chillwind, ran through Sorrow Hill, north over the bridge, the fourth tower is to your immediate left after you enter the ruins again. I soloed this with a lvl 50 hunter, died once because of Flesh Golem...

if you are having the same problem i did (agroing the elite inside) then try this:

1. kill the non-elite mob at the enterance
2. if needed kill another non-elite mob to the left/right
3. run against the outside of the watchtower to the side furthest away from the side mobs
4. run so you are in the corner of the little enterance tunnel and the outside wall
5. mark teh tower

Don't stand in front of the door, stand beside the door and inch your way closer.&nbsp The elite inside won't see you, even the 57s.

I was standing right along the outside wall at the door frame facing the pad in front of the doorway.

Tip for locks, i'm lvl 53, killed the non-elite guy out front first.&nbsp then stood away from a tower and pulled out my eye of killrog, the elite guard saw it and caming running after, but the eye is faster.&nbsp make the eye run far enough away from the tower with the guard following you.&nbsp once he killed the eye, he didn't return to the tower (assuming he's stuck somewhere)

walked in and set the torch

All you have to do is walk around the tower to the side of the door frame. (not from the front)

Just walk against the wall of the tower until you reach the side of the door frame. All you will have to do is kill one lvl 54-55 non elite. Easy as cake!

Just stand left or right beside the entrance and enlight the Torch, the Elite Mob will not aggro you, you do not have to kill him or anything else.

Just kill one or two of the normal enemies and stand right beside the guardtower entrance. That is all ...

I was able to do it with my Level 53 Mage, there was no problem

The watchtowers are located at the 3 entrances to Andorhal (as an effective watchtower should be), meaning you don't have to wander around the town much. Tower 1 is at the SW entrance, Tower 2 is at the SE entrance, and Towers 3 and 4 are at the N entrance. Run in and out for 1 and 2, then loop around the back for 3 and 4. If you run out of torches before marking all of the towers you will have to drop the quest and pick it up again.

After laboriously killing the first elite, the warrior I was with hit upon a much easier way: one of you pulls the elite out and the other plants the torch.&nbsp If you're partied the puller will still be in exp range and you'll both get it.&nbsp If you're having trouble with the "inching" method try this, neither of you (or even both of you together) has to be good enough to kill the elite.&nbsp You just have to watch out for Flesh Golems when you're heading from tower to tower.

This quest is actually an elite quest, just like the Alliance version. This s because there is a Skeletal Warlord (Elite) inside each tower.

The torch can not be used while you are in combat.

A simple trick for a hunter. Wait for the elite to move back from the door way. Walk up and stand in the doorway. Then tell your pet to attack as you light the torch.

You will not be in combat when you start and the pet will keep the mob off you long enough for credit. You can then run of and turn pet to Passive so it runs off and does not die on you.

This quest was fine for me, allys were feel nice and didn't attack also I was able to kill mobs one at a time almost every encounter. By using the locs shown in the 'additional notes' on this page I found each tower. I could place the beacon and not aggro the elite mob inside at level 57, which made it a lot easier.
