Dousing the Flames of Protection

Using the Purified Moon Well Water, douse the flames of the four braziers of protection within Shadow Hold in Felwood, then return to Greta Mosshoof in the Emerald Sanctuary.
  •
Extinguish the Brazier of Pain [Sprinkling Purified Water]
  •
Extinguish the Brazier of Malice [Sprinkling Purified Water]
  •
Extinguish the Brazier of Suffering [Sprinkling Purified Water]
  •
Brazier of Hatred [Sprinkling Purified Water]
Provided Item:
Purified Moonwell Water

Description

Now, you must return to Jaedenar. The braziers are more than likely spread throughout Shadow Hold. Douse each of their flames and the protections the Council has set up will fall for at least a short period of time. I will be waiting for that to happen. When it does, I will look deep within the Hold and try to find out who the head of this beast is. Then, and only then, will we see about attacking them directly.

The quest is inside the far-left cave (Shadow hold).
Location: X:35 Y:58 -or- Jaedenar, West of the road, just before the river seperating the zone.

The flames are purple and inside a large bowl or Brazier.

1. Pain (when entering the first main room, the flame is right beside the wall. Basiclly, if you jump straight into the room and don't go down the path, It'll be behind you.)

2. Hatred (After dousing the Pain flame, its on the up on the path leading deeper into the cave.)

3. Suffering (when entering the room with candles, follow the path downwards into that room, follow the path through the room)

4. Malice (turn to the right of Suffering flame near the other wall)

~~~
Pain: 36,56
Hatred: 37,55
Suffering: 37,53
Malice: 38,53
(The flame tlocs are from Gnag's post)
Upon entering the cave, you'll hopefully get a drop that starts the quest A Strange Red Key (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=5202), which leads to the escort quest Rescue from Jaedenar (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=5203). The path taken by the escort quest hits all of the flames, so you can do the two quests concurrently. The Night Elf you're escorting will also help you by offtanking enemies along the route. With her help, I soloed this quest quickly and easily as a 56 warrior.
One thing to take note of is if you miss a brasier on your way through you cannot just 'guess' and douse one of the same ones again without using a 'charge' of the water. So, if you're like me and blow it, you're done, need to go back and re-get the quest from start. So definitely be more patient than I was or you'll have to start over.
Was a bit of a challenge but definitely doable. Affliction lock focusing on +shadow dmg then stamina. 5/5 Suppression.
Just took my time, making sure to make use of banish on any multiple pulls that had demons. You can banish indefinitely,&nbsp bandaging if needed. Used Shadow Ward liberally. 195 mana to prevent 300 dmg is well worth it.
The toughest fights were two 54 warlocks with two 54 imp pets, and I got an add of a 52 hunter (mana eater) right as I started. Keep one warlock seduced, keep the hunter banished, double dot each imp (they'll die from just that), and then focus on the remaining warlock (dot + draintank), taking care to reseduce and rebanish as necessary. Take out the hunter last as banish is very reliable at 30 seconds, whereas seduce is short.
The legionnaires weren't too hard, just had to make sure to keep all DOTs up and if you get resists, recast until it lands. Amplify Curse is nice here. By the last legionnaire I had dinged 51, and finished the last one at 90% health and mana (allowing for some dark pact'ing during the fight).
Very fun! Would have been a lot faster if I could stealth, but being a warlock does have its strengths when dealing with demons. I posted this figuring it might be helpful to&nbsp warlocks, as warlocks also need to kill these legionnaires for a warlock quest.
Note!
It's 35, 58...may seem very close but it's totally on the opposite end of the area when you're actually there. Turn around at 35, 60, go across the firepit, and you'll find it.
Solo'd as a 53 Rogue ( no points in Sub) With clever use of sap, evasion, and blind/bandage it shouldn't be too hard. Just wait for your CDs to come back up after the fights. Be careful stealthing through, a couple tight places, use distract.
The braziers look exactly like the ones hanging from the ceiling, except they are on the ground. Two are in the same room as the captured Arko'narin. One is on the same floor on the other side of the room, the other up the short stairs. The last two are further in (where Arko'narin gets her equipment if you are doing that quest) on either side of that room. If you get to the oozes, you have gone too far (unless there is another entrance, I never did figure out if the two entrances are connected).
There is no elite outside the cave. There are 2 guardians that are between 50 and 52. Yes, the cave entry is at 35,60. If you follow the path as it needs to be followed, cuz there's only one path to take, you will pass all 4 bowls of fire. Soloed this easily, never dying, as 52 lock. I love the people that say they soloed it around 58-60. Good job killing stuff 5 lvls below you, n00bs.
By Anonymous on 06/13/2006 (Patch 1.10.2)
Soloed, mostly, by 51 mage. The highest level mobs are 55, and they're fairly easy. The only hard part is taking care of the locks with imps plus an add. Just sheep the lock, ice shield yourself, take out the imp, then kill the warrior. Then you can take out the lock. Pretty simple, but you've got to stay on your toes. Tight spaces + mages don't mix. I had a little help from a 58 rogue when I got in trouble. So, I didn't technically 100% solo this one. :P
Just work your way gradually through the shadow hold you'll stumble across the fires as you go.
It's a nice quest, the mobs tend to pull in two's if you're careful. I solo'd this quite easily with a level 54 rogue.
