Fire Plume Forged

Take the Skeleton Key Mold and 2 Thorium Bars to the top of Fire Plume Ridge in Un'Goro Crater. Use the Skeleton Key Mold by the lava lake to forge the Unfinished Skeleton Key.

Bring the Unfinished Skeleton Key to Apothecary Dithers at the Bulwark, Western Plaguelands.

Description

You need two bars of thorium and a powerfully hot heat source to forge the key stem. You're on your own for the thorium, but I can help with the heat.

To our west in Un'Goro Crater is Fire Plume Ridge - a simmering volcano. The lava lake up top is hot enough to fuse thorium and bone together. Your gold has bought you a mold that simply requires you to dip it in the lake up top; the lava will take care of the rest.

That's it on my end. To finish your key, you'll need to talk to Dithers again.

go up the path, kill annoying mobs, mold the key on the lava lakes' edge.

This is a fairly easy quest. You need to go to 45,45 in un'goro crater. Follow one of the lava rivers up to the lake and stand close to the edge. I found a spot that allowed me to comfortably cast the key without getting burned.

Coordinates above confirmed.

I couldn't find a place to get close enough to the lake to forge without getting burned, so I had a guild mate heal me while I stood in the lake. Easy enough that way.

Watch out for Blazerunner in the cave next to the lake, he's a 58 elite.

Using Cartographer, my coords were 48.3, 46.8 to take no damage. NW side of the lake where the land kind of bows into the lake.

If you want the key to Scholomance, you have to do this quest line.

I did this quest solo as a 57 hunter with no problem. You can get near enough to forge without taking any damage. I just had to make sure to kill the elemental in the lake first. I didn't have any issues with the elite either cause I was far enough away from the cave that he didn't aggro.

had a little trouble working out where to actually stand to forge. stood right at lava la,ke ontop of fire ridge plume but kept saying, "lava lake required". i stood at 48,47 and it worked fine.

I was having the deuce of a time with this one. I'd try standing here, then there, and once I got the channelling bar when I was actually in the lava-- which I do not recommend. Died once. Finally just went around the periphery and whacked the buttonbar every step.

I'd give coordinates, but for something this precise they're pretty useless-- and LocationCoordinates went whacky and reported (15, 27). This is not the correct answer.

If you imagine stepping out of the cave where Blazerunner lives, walk up to the lava pit and turn right. You can stay on the high ground and not get close to the pit. There will be a slight bowing inward of the non-molten land. This is where you stand to fill the mold with lava.

Oh! and make sure you have those two Thorium bars or the whole trip will be worthless. Wave "hi" on your way out to all the Draenel Shaman Jewelcrafters who are camping the Rich Thorium Veins.

I assume it is the "Skeleton Key" linked here: Item #13704] which appears to be the Key to Scholomance ... but none of that info is filled in at the moment, so it's just a best guess.

The lake is at: 49,46
A path starts around 52,53 that kind of wraps around the mountain that you can follow towards the top

Anyone have any idea if Apothecary Dithers takes lunch and sex breaks? Myself, friend and another player waited over 3 hours and he was not at his spot ... any ideas?
