Araj's Scarab

Destroy Araj the Summoner and bring Araj's Scarab to Alchemist Arbington at Chillwind Point, Western Plaguelands.
Araj's Scarab

Description

Araj the Summoner lords over Andorhal from the ruined city's heart. We know that he was the former leader of Scholomance before claiming the city as his own. To finish the key, we will need his signet - called a scarab - mounted as the head of the key.

Make your way into the heart of Andorhal, and break his hold on the city now that he is drawn into the open. Once destroyed, seize his scarab from his fallen phylactery!

The Key to Scholomance awaits, <name>!

This quest can be done like the Sons of Gruul- I got a party together to kill Araj, but someone else had literally just killed him (the bodies were still out) and the phylactery was out and I was able to loot it.

Very anticlimactic.

It is possible to kill Araj and loot the scarab before all of her guards are downed. If you have a hunter or mages in your group the crowd control for the guards should be okay.

You will need to separate Araj from the mass of guards and hack it up. Most of the time i've seen a hunter pull her away while mages frost/slow the guards. A VW aoe taunt is also nice to keep the guards focused while Araj is taken down.

If you kill Araj but die in the process you can easily run back, res yourself, and loot araj for scarab before respawn.

If you pull the front undead (east side), it won't aggro Araj. With fewer guards around him, Araj will be a little easier to bring down.

I did this quest about 2 weeks ago in a raid of 6 when the item dropped and it did we all left the raid group and looted the item with no problem. It was hard to get a group together at first then suddenly we had to many ppl. one player kept saying it could be done. me thinking he was full of bull!@#$, saying to myself oh no we gonna have to kill this dude twice. I didnt believe it would work. Low and behold it did. Just thought you all would like to know.

Confirmed. Just beat the crap out of him as a solo level 62 prot pallie. He is still elite as of 2.3, although the Attuned Dampener used to help kill him has been greatly upgraded. First off, make sure you do the prequest, Counting Out Time, before you fight him, in order to get the Attuned Dampener. Using that will make him much easier.

Second, make sure you come into Andorhal through Sorrow Hill and over the bridge. Clear the area of solo mobs, and watch out for the Flesh Reapers on patrol, they're elites. It's a good idea to kill any of those in the immediate area.

Now start carefully pulling mobs from around Araj. You can pull not only the first group in front of him, but also the 2 spectral ghosts behind them, and if you go around to the side, the scorching ghouls and skeletal warlords as well. It isn't difficult at all to completely clear the area around him.

After he's clear, stand about 10 yards away and use the Attuned Dampener. From there on, keep yourself healed and he's cake. Pallies should know what to drop on him. Consecration, Exorcism, etc. Keep a mana potion handy just in case.

At any rate, rumors of his difficulty are greatly exaggerated.

Araj can be transformed into the damage equivalent of a kitten by using the Attuned Dampener http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12650.&nbsp If each party member fires one of these off then Araj will be helpless.&nbsp Of course his adds will still be beating the crap out of you.

I did this quest with just me (60 warlock) and a 53 warlock that happened to be in the area. And it was damn funny the way I did it.

After standing around surveying the situation, I came up with a plan. I figured that if I could somehow occupy the guards, I would have enough time to fight Araj 1 on 1.

So, I told the 53 Lock to SS himself, and aggro the entire group with his voidwalker, and immediately pull his VW back, and start running for the water that is near by.

While the guards chased him, I had enough time to easily solo the boss. He's a 61 elite but goes down quite fast.

Well, I had very good luck in this one. =)
Just when I was waiting for my friends to arrive, party of 3 55-65lvl hordes ran there and started smashing Araj. So I helped them by aggroing and killing half of the adds. Araj and the adds were dead in no time, we thanked each other and everyone was happy.

I did this in lvl 57. (priest) with help from a mage and a warlock (60). Just send the warlocks minion to Araj, priest shields him, and Shackle undead on one of the Elite guards.

Then just go dps. Press the box he drops, and you get your quest item. Np

Level 62 Hunter, and myself (Lvl 55 Hunter). Set up 2 scattered frost traps to slow them down. Lvl 62 pulled the guards around Araj, then we both sent pets after the guards. Lvl 62 FD and I AOE them. While all the guards focused on me, Lvl 62 took care of Araj.
Piece 'O cake. Gotta love strategy =)

Heh...just 4-boxed this with a priest + 3 warlocks. As others have mentioned, just pull him out of range of his normal spawn, have pets or people offtank the adds while you DPS him down (he falls fast for a 61 elite). Once he's dead, you can A) run away until the adds stop following, B) kill the adds, or C) die and run back (or soulstone/shammyrez). As long as you pulled him out of range of the gang in the middle, you can loot the scarab without further interference.

Cheers!

My group (myself lvl 57 pally, 58 rouge, 58 mage, 59 warlock and 55 warrior) tried and failed 4 times to kill him fair and square. Our tactic was basically to kill those around him first, then him alone. This doesn't work. The 4 mobs in front of him are easily pulled and killed without aggroing anyone else, so we did that before each attempt.
We tried everything from me healing to all mass AoE, all attempts failed miserably.

Our final and successful plan was to first scatter them a bit. The 55 warrior got on the mount and ran straight through them, pulling most away from Araj (who stood still because he's a caster). Rest of the group then hammered him and pulled a bit back. He followed. He was dead by the time the adds killed us and we easily looted him from safe distance.

If you accept death as a tactic, Araj is easily killed.

Just solo'd at lvl 63 with only three pet res's. BM spec ftw. I tried this at 62 and it resulted in multiple deaths for me and a 61 priest. Amazing how much difference one lvl makes.

I wish I could get all these Araj quests in bulk )

I've had to kill the guy 5 times now. The first three times because my group really sucked at timing. We'd go to attack araj and get 'em just as some one else attacks, or we'd get to the phylactery just as the adds spawned all over the place. Very annoying.

Anyway, we did it with one 60 mage, and the rest of us were 54-55s. Pally (Me), Mage, another Mage, and two hunters.

actually i (60 mage) did him with a 2nd mage tonight. was pretty easy, put max dps on him and ignore all adds. important: counterspell him once to pull him away from his spawn point and the point where the adds will return to after he's down. of course we died, but we got him down easily, so we returned, got ressed and looted him (hence the counterspell pull, otherwise the loot would be inaccessible cause of the adds)

we just took him with a 59 pally & priest, a 56 druid and me a lvl 58 rogue. we started by clearing the area as much as possible. pulled him and everyone ignore the main and take the adds. killed as many as the low lvl adds as possible. then the pally before dying after the druid and priest were oom used devine intervention to save the priest. eveyone else died. he rezzed once they went back. then i took the main while the pally took the adds. i took him pretty fast and the pally lasted a while. no one released before he was dead. after he died we all let ourselves go. ran back and looted. so the person ( some stupid know it all night elf that said we couldnt take him with 4 people ) can suck it. a total of 5 gold for everyone to repait thier armor and the key. without "at lease 8 lvl 60s".

Did this in a raid group of 6 from my guild.

While waiting for everyone to arrive we picked off the mobs around the fountain. They respawn pretty quick, within 10 mins. We then had a big battle with all the mobs and Araj and killed them pretty easily. You need to leave a raid group to loot Araj, which I didn't do. So we waited and killed each respawn as they came, Araj ended up on his own when he respawned and was very easy to kill - quick counterspell to stop his spells and he died very quick after that.

This quest can be raided. Just drop raid before looting the phylactery. This makes it stupid easy. I rallied about 10 people the other night to kill him. People asked me why I bothered gathering so many - my reply? "Because it was easy, it was painless, and nobody died. It's a success to me."

Soloable with a lock or hunter.

Just send your pet to attack a distant mob, making sure they agro the group along the way. This lets you get Araj alone, who is pretty easy to kill. You'll likely die before you can loot the scarab since you need like 5 secs and getting hit interrupts it, so just die, rez or soulstone, and send pet again.

work't for me last night

Definately doable with a lock, just takes a bit of skill.

Make sure YOU have control of VW's Suffering, and pull the group in front of him first. Don't use suffering if you don't want to wait for the cooldown. (If you are higher than 61, these mobs are cake, even without it. The, send in your VW to a mob other than Araj to pull it all. After you have them all under Suffering, switch him to Araj, and start your attacks ASAP. Use Amp. Curse/CoA (or just CoA if you don't have Amp. Curse), and the usual DoTs. Shoot off Shadowbolts like crazy, and switch to drain life if you get aggro (Because if you gain aggro, he should be near dead and you can wipe him out). You WILL die, that's all there is to it.

After you kill him and die, run back, send in VW and suffer all the mobs around the corpse so you are able to use what he drops.

I did this at level 65 and it went off without a hitch.
