The Captain's Chest

Bring Smotts' Chest to Hecklebury Smotts in Booty Bay.
Smotts' Chest

Description

I used to sail a ship from here all the way to Ratchet, in Kalimdor. I was a successful captain with a sterling reputation.

Until...

Those cursed sea giants ruined me! They smashed my ship, killed my crew, and set me on a lifeboat to Booty Bay. And one of the giants, Gorlash, stole my Captain's Chest. He said he wanted it for a snuffbox. The nerve!

I hear Gorlash wanders the coast east of here. Find him and get back my chest! Do that, and you'll have earned a captain's gratitude.

To find Gorlash, leave Booty Bay from the tunnel, then head to the east coast. You should pass through an area with Bloodsail mages/swashbucklers. As soon as you hit the beach, start running north. You should see Gorlash walking around in the ocean (he's huge and hard to miss).

Gorlash is a level 47 elite giant, so come prepared. Two shamans (mid to late 40s) did this with no problems. Probably a good idea to bring some healing. Total time from getting quest, finding and killing Gorlash, then returning is maybe ten minutes.

The directions are precise. And he's definitely hard to miss.

If you have sucky bracers and could use those [see required level: 35], or if you're just lazy and impatient, you could kite him back to the entrance of the Booty Bay entrance. The goblins will take care of him.

Gorlash can rooted, stunned, slowed and novaed. Take caution to stay clear of the Bloodsail mobs. You might outrun them too but you might be slowed as well.

Me (A 39 Rogue) and my friend (a 37 mage) had recently gotten this 45 Elite quest. Now, I know what you're saying, "Two high 30s can't take a 47 elite down!" Wrongo! It took a few tries, but we (mainly the mage, running sideways, fireblasting, to keep his attention)to lead him all the way up to the Booty Bay entrance, where the guards did the work for us, just had to keep damage on him to keep him tapped.

(Us pulling him)

(Us at the Booty Bay gates, while the guards took all the punishment)

Just goes to show, that if you put your mind to it, anything is possible :)

After two unsuccessful attempts (thank god for feign death) i managed to bring the hefty chap down - gfor any interested hunters this is what i did:
firstly place a frost trap in front of me, then sent pet in, putting him on bestial wrtath then got him to stun the guy for 3 secs. once that was done i used mortar on him (3 sec more stun +400dmg approx), all the while pounding arcane shot and multishot.&nbsp Once pet was near death i called him back and made gorlash run over trap, thank god he didnt resist or it would have been curtains! Bandage pet and mend. resume battle - he at about 45% health now.&nbsp Keep pounding till pet hits dust then finished him off melee.&nbsp If he engages you in melee hit the clip and kite him

Easily solo'ed him with 46 warlock full affliction build, just fully dot him (do Amplify Curse for Curse of Agony), Death Coil, instant Howl of Terror, drain life, redot, fear, drain life and he must be dead, ended up full hp and half mana.

Don't forget to life-tap first tho before you use drain life and spihon life, because all health you don't get, you cant use for life-tap either.

He's quite easy to find, really, just follow the shores north, he's a big greenish sea giant. (Behind the bloodsailor camps, behind the zombiemasters ruins)

I did him today myself as a 44 Warlock. I lost my VW in about the 30 seconds of the fight and didn't waste mana on a new pet. After a lot of DoTs, fears, lifetaps, and overall havoc, he went down. I ended with about 100 health and zero mana.

Group of 3, myself (50 marks hunter), 43 Holy Pally, and 41 Lock. Really easy. When I joined the group, I was expecting more of a fight from Gorlash (I figured that he's a named Elite, so it might be a challenge.) Nope. Found him at 34,74, marked him, set a frost trap and had my pet tank him. He took a while to go down, but he only took down about 1/3 of my pet's health. Could have solo'ed easily, IMO.

Gorlash wanders along the beach just outside of BB. Exit via the jaws, and head East. Get to the shore, and travel North just a short way, and you will run into him.

The wife and I (45 druid and rogue) barely beat him, but did take him out.

My 45 Druid walked up the beach with a 40 Paladin in tow, threw Roots, Moonfire, and Wrathed till he broke roots. Shifted to Dire bear and hit him till dead. Paladin healed about 5 or 6 times so this is not a solo if you're a 45 Druid!

I solo'd this quest EASILY as a 45 priest.

Start with mind blast, devouring plague, and shadow word pain. Mind flay until he gets to you, then fear and run the other way. Reapply shadow word pain when it runs out, and just keep running. When he catches up to you again, fear AGAIN and shadow word pain. It might take a while, but I killed him without even taking a hit.

My first attempt I was solo lvl 48:

I sent in Voidy, set up my DoTs, should have used CoW instead of CoA. My poor Voidy was hit hard in the opening rounds. Didn't have much time to Health Funnel Voidy. Then my only SB aggro the beastie with barely a smidgeon of hp left on Voidy...had to sac Voidy...I ran like Forest Gump with the beastie pounding away at me with his feet...ha ha no effect with VW sacrifice...after a short run the beastie disengaged pursuit.

I waited abt 5 mins and by that time two Alliance members had gathered with me, I belive they were a druid and a pally. Anyway, this time I was determined to drop the beastie. I went in with CoW this time, then the two Alliance members swooped in with full force...we tore that giant apart with me finishing the beastie with a Soul Fire. Great Finish!

Needless to say I could not have done it w/o the help of the Alliance Members, especially since I am part of the Horde.

rep with Booty Bay "increased"

Solo'd it today as 47 Warlock. I didn't do as well as some... VW died, I died, but with lots of fear and DoTs, he died under my DoTs the precise moment I did. Raced back, looted body, job done. He was 47 Elite. 224-355 damage when he hit.
