Deep Sea Salvage

First Mate Nilzlix wants you to retrieve the Charts and Logs from the Maiden's Folly and the Spirit of Silverpine.
Maiden's Folly Charts
Maiden's Folly Log
Spirit of Silverpine Charts
Spirit of Silverpine Log

Description

O'Breen led the ships into the cove. We were certain this is where the treasure could be found. The Harbinger docked safely but as the Maiden's Folly and Spirit of Silverpine approached the tides began to lower. Strangest thing I've ever seen!

Those two ships ran aground into something... some sort of temple in the reef. They sank so quickly, was quite a tragedy.

We need to retrieve their Logs as well as their Charts before we leave. We can't leave that information behind for prying eyes!

Maidens Folly (east-most ship)

Maidens Folly Log (23,85)
Head down the stairs from the deck, in that room with the stairs on the 1st floor of the ship is a whole bunch of crap in one corner, the log is a large brown book sitting in a cauldron shaped thing.

Maidens Folly Charts (23,84)
Still on the 1st floor of the ship it is in like the centre of the ship. Where the crow's nests post extends through the ship, the charts are against it on the northern side. Charts look like a map or flat square piece of parchment.

Also found a chest on the bottom floor of this ship to watch out for.

Spirit of Silverpine (west-most ship)

Spirit of Silverpine Charts (20,85)
Head down the stairs from the deck, there are two cannons in this room on the 1st floor - against one is two crates and on one of the crates is the charts - again, looks like a map or square piece of parchment

Spirit of Silverpine (20,85)
Directly below the Charts, on the bottom floor of the ship is the Log.&nbsp It lies on the seabed within the bottom floor of the ship. Looks like an open blue book.

Maidens Folly (eastern ship)

Maidens Folly Log
Head down the stairs from the deck. This puts you on the first floor. On that first floor there is a bunch of junk against the wall. Towards the left side you'll find the log (it looks like a book) in a bucket/cauldron looking thing.

Maidens Folly Charts
On the first floor in the center of the ship. They're on the northern side of mast that runs through the middle of the ship.

Spirit of Silverpine (western ship)

Spirit of Silverpine Charts
Head down the stairs from the deck, there are two cannons in this room on the 1st floor - against one is two crates and on one of the crates is the charts - again, looks like a map or square piece of parchment

Spirit of Silverpine
On the very bottom floor of the ship the book is on the sand in the ship. There's a stool/bench a few feet away from it. It's a pain in the ass to get though as there's a ton of Naga around it.

For the purpose of describing the boats the Maiden's Folly is the Northeast ship and the Silverpine is the Southwest ship.

1. Maiden's Folly Map: The hardest one to find it seems. This map is on the middle level of the Northeast boat toward the front of the ship (point end). It is lying on a column inside this largest room on the north side.
2. Maiden's Folly Log: This log is in the Northeast ship in the room with the stairs on the middle floor. The log is hiding in a crate to the left of the door that leads to the rest of the middle section.
3. Spirit of Silverpine Map: This map is on the middle level of the Southwest ship in the room with two cannons. The map iteslf is sitting on some crates next to the cannon that is not pointing out a window. There should not be any nagas in this room.
4. Spirit of Silverpine Log: Bottum level of the Southwest ship, a few feet away from a stool in sand inside the ship. It's guarded by a female naga and a male naga.

To be nice ... this was a strange quest. Like others have said, the ability of the Naga in the ships to pass through walls and decks adds a level of challenge to doing this. The Naga hang out in the holds (lowest level) of the ships in what I saw were normally two groups of three, so six for each ship. Each ship also has a large hole in the hull on the bottom side, so you can easily enter through there and kill the Naga in the hold, then search the ship for quest items. The Naga's ability to pass through the hull can also be used against them because they can be seen from outside and underneath the ship, either by their actual form or their "shadow spot" on the sea floor. While the line of site problem exists as others here have stated, the Naga can be pulled either by waltzing up to them and poking them with a melee weapon, or waiting for them to aggro you, then they can be pulled outside (usually a group of three). Once combat is intiated, the LOS issue is no longer in play and I was able to freely cast on them even though they were on the other side of a wall. Their corpses can be looted through the walls as well.

The most annoying part of this quest was finding the Maiden's Folly charts. Two of us swam around killing Naga for 20 minutes before I gave in and came here to find out where the charts were located. (Nice pictures BTW ^_^)

Before starting on this quest I went and did this two leg series first - (Quest #2098) It was very easy at lvl 44 to get the elixer. ^_^

Okay here's my attempt to explain where these are.

The MF charts are at 23,84 on the second deck on a low shelf that circles the base of the mast.&nbsp The MF log is at 23,85 also on the second deck at the bow of the ship inside a half-barrel among some crates.

The SS charts are at 21,86 on the second deck on top of a barrel near a cannon in the bow.&nbsp The SS log is at 21,85 on the sea floor inside the ship at a hole through the hull (accessible from outside).

The Silverpine chart is just as you come down the stairs to the 2nd lvl. The log is on the bottom were the hole in the boat is located.

The Folly chart and log are on the 2nd lvl. The chart is on a ledge and the log is in a pot by a bunch of other junk.

I tried taking a screencap of the Maiden's charts, since people are having a lot of trouble seeing where they are.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b166/carna_icons/charts.jpg

As you can see, they're sitting where my mouse is pointing, on the ledge there. After coming down the stairs on the ship, go through the door into the little hallway where the log is, and then continue through the right door and turn left, and there they are.

  • The silverpine logbook is on the sand. Ship #1 You can see it through the hole in the bottom of the ship. There is probably 1-3 mobs there. Pull them out before fighting them.
  • The Silverpine charts is on a crate, Ship #1, near a cannon, on the deck above. Swim in through the cannon-openings.
  • The Maiden Logbook is amongst the junk, Ship #2 (I saw it in a bucket?) on the second deck, near the doorway, after you swim down the stairs from the top-deck.
  • The Maiden charts is on the ledge, Ship #2 around the mast on the second deck. No need to swim down into the bottom of this ship.
ALL these items are colored almost to match the surroundings and can be very hard to spot. If you have problems finding them, take your time to carefully mouse-over the areas.

This mission earned the "most hated mission" from me! Gah. HORRIBLE Line-of-sight. Underwater. hard to find items etc.

Edited to clarify since this still seems to grief some players.
Hope this helps.

This is probably the most annoying quest I've ever done. If you don't have a lot of water breathing pots or an ability to breathe underwater, don't bother with this quest. Also the naga have an annoying tendancy to clip through the ships while fleeing making killing runners next to impossible.

Proceed with caution.

If you are lucky like I was you will find Prince Nazjak the rare spawn Naga in the right sunken boat (assuming you are facing out to the water from the shore) on the first floor of it. He has a chance to drop Tidal Charm (https://classicdb.ch/?item=1404) so if you're even more lucky he'll drop it for you like he did me. Great PvP item.

Hey,

In the Ship the closest to the cove where you got the mission, in the middle of the ship there is this circular pillar with a jutting out all around, like a bench...the charts are sitting on the on the side of the ship that is closest to the shore.
I overlooked this spot ~15 times over 40 minutes of looking for this piece only.&nbsp What I did that finally helped me find this was actually turn around once I enter each room and to look for a circular pillar.&nbsp That would do it!

Best of luck to you!

Clarification:

A GOLD DRAGON around mob portrait means that the mob is, indeed, elite.

A SILVER DRAGON around a mob portrait simply means that tme mob is RARE, and drops above average loot.&nbsp This mob is NOT elite.

Since there are also RARE ELITES, the portrait of a rare elite mob will have a GOLD DRAGON around it, and nothing about the portrait distinguishes it from a regular elite mob.

That said, this good old-fashioned, non-elite mob is Prince Nazjak, who drops a Tidal Charm, a lovely trinket with a 15-min cooldown that stuns a target (at range!) for 3 sec, supposedly a 50% drop rate.&nbsp This made this God-awful quest worthwhile.

Other than that, I think that shammies, in addition to water-walking and water-breathing, should also be able to walk through walls, just like every @#$%ING mob in these damned ships.&nbsp

Oh, and you may have trouble finding these, even with the given directions (which are very good and thorough).&nbsp You have to swim around the spawn points several times before they will actually spawn in front of you.&nbsp No one else on the quest, the closest person was probably in Stromgarde...and still, i had to swim around for 2 hours, and watch 2 of these things spawn... one per #$%^ing hour.

Grr.

WOOT! I just did this quest and i have to say thank you for the advice it made it alot easier.
I found that approaching the 'Maiden Head' from below (^_-) through the hole in the hull was very helpful as it seemed easier to kill the monsters on the lower decks and then swim up slowly near the mast in the central area and sneak the Maidens Chart (it is resting on the mast, thankfully the items shine in the murky waters making em easy to pick out) out from under the Naga guard.
In fact it was also a piece of cake to enter the 'Silver Pine' in a similar fashion. Kill the 2 Naga here one at a time and grab the Log Book. (When i tried to enter from the top and go in deeper to grab the items located in the lower decks, it always got rly messy with random monsters attacking through the floor or walls :( )
Then enter both boats from the top deck killing Naga as u go wander down the stairs to get the other two items, which i found to be exactly where advertised by the other posts.
Combining this quest with Drowned Sorrows & Sunken Treasures was the way i did it. Only cost me the price of one Elixir of Greater Water Breathing in AH and about 40 minutes of patient Naga killing. BEWARNED the Naga seem to follow u forever when things go a bit wrong and u need to escape to regroup. Solo'd with a level 40 Priest :p I was rly dreading dying and having to go buy another potion but it all worked out in the end. I wish others trying this quest luck <3

Got through at level 39.&nbsp Ok so I am an undead rogue and didnt need water breathing pots but you dont need a level 60 with you unless you are a hack and slash player that agros everything.

the cursed silverpine log was guarded by 2 of the raiders AND two casters which I managed to bring down to only 2 guards by taunting them with my floating corpse.

Didnt notice any bugs till after that last log book.&nbsp I sapped the last gaurd, got the book, tried to go back stealth as it showed I could.&nbsp swam back to the cove being git by magic blasts all the way and after standing on the shore for 5 seconds, died from drowning, much to my chagrin.

try for that log last.

I'm pretty sure druids can use maces, but I just did the quest for XP...

The info on the locations of the quest items above is very good, so I don't feel a need to add anything there : )

I had an easier time with this than some others because, as a druid, I could shift into aquatic form to catch my breath and break out of nets.&nbsp

I killed off the naga in cat form, getting 3 or 4 combo points before finishing them off with a carefully timed Ferocious Bite before they could run off and call their friends.&nbsp If you miss on that, you probably already know that you can shift out and tap them with moonfire before they get too far.&nbsp Otherwise shift, catch your breath and pray : P It also helps to stack up a DOT or two in the combo points for this reason.

Another nice thing about cat form at this level is Track Humanoids, which you can scan every once in a while to see if the rare, Prince Nazjak, is in the area.&nbsp I've never found him when I was actually looking for him though...

As a paladin, can't say I liked this quest. But, I've only died twice, once while looking for the items, I found them while I was in ghost form, then once more when I went for the last item, the Spirit of Silverpine Log. I tried to aggro just the Raider to bring him up to the surface (where I fought every naga, I'm doing this without any breathing help, so I have to), and the Sorc came too. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, I'd have killed the warrior, bubble healed, arcane torrented her and brought her up, but somehow, she shot two lightning bolts, similar to the shaman talent, I'm guessing another bug or lag spike, and they both critted. Great. Other then that, its not a bad quest, you just have to make sure to clean everything out. Besides, if all of the quests were easy, then why wouldn't Blizzard just give us all 70s? All in all, I think its a good quest.

I managed to pull the Daggerspine Sorcs out the bottom of one boat without aggroing her two guards, but the Silverpine involved pulling one mob (and 5 adds came), then killing as many as possible before dieing, running back from the g/y, pulling one (and 3 adds came), killing as many as possible before dieing, running back from the g/y,...etc. repeating until I had the area clear in order to get the log from the sand.

I submitted a bug reporting the clipping issue with the Daggerspine Sorceresses.

I just did this one, and was glad for my (Item #20557). I ate candies until I got the pirate version of (Spell #24926) for its swim speed buff, then drank an (Item #5996). After that it just became another collection quest. The naga ran interference, but I needed to kill them for (Quest #664) anyway. The twenty minutes for the pumpkin treat buff was just enough for me to complete this quest, Drowned Sorrows, as well as (Quest #666). Obviously this isn't an option during the rest of the year, but if you happen to be ready for this quest during the holiday, take advantage of it.

One caveat for this quest is it does have an unmentioned prequisite: (Quest #663) from the ogre (NPC #2766). It takes maybe ten seconds to complete, but because it's a lower level quest than the others in the area, you may not see the "!".
