Trelane's Defenses

Find an Azure Agate and bring it to Apprentice Kryten at Refuge Pointe.
Azure Agate

Description

All rested?

Here's our next step: there're ogres all around the Tower of Arathor in Stromgarde. We're gonna need to activate the tower's defenses if you're gonna stand a chance against 'em an' still make it to the items alive. To do that, we're gonna need some gems the Boulderfist shaman have taken a liking to. They took 'em from the tower, but they're not gonna stay in their possession for long.

Get one of them gems an' bring 'em to Kryten--he knows the spell to enchant 'em so they'll work as a key.

First you have to do "Worth its Weight in Gold" quest from Apprentince Kryten, then you have to do "Wand Over Fist" from the guy near him and then you can get this quest.

Quest Item dropped by:
Boulderfist Shaman https://classicdb.ch/?npc=2570

this quest gives from 300 XP to 3000 XP

For those of you that are like me and don't actually know how to get to the tower:

When you are standing facing Stromgarde turn to the right. Don't actually go inside. Follow the wall outside as closely as you can until you get to the coordinates (21.3, 70.5) Be careful to not fall off ;) You can walk the wall inside, but do watch out because there is a patrol that walks up there as well.

Found the tower.
Killed the first 39 elite shaman I saw
Got the drop
Got out
Took a total of 2 minutes

Tower is at 18,64 in Stormguard where the fat smelly Ogers roam. When you activate defences, stand near the frendly water elemental guards as they will help fight.

there is a gap in southern wall of Stromgarde Keep (app coord. 21.70). You just have to go right (if you facing main gate to SK) walkink side the east wall fight one bird turn corner and walk side south wall until u see gap.

Three shamans are right under that gap i need kill two others just to clean area, but second shaman droped.

If you not druid or rogue have set heartstone to Southshore or other close inn.

Of coarse if you want to fight your way out feel free.

Hope this will help somebody.

Soloed this as a 39 rogue. In Stromgarde (25,55 in Arathi), take the first right and then the first left down an alley. This leads to an ogre area with several shamans. I received an azure agate on the first shaman kill.

This is the simplest way to complete this quest, without a party or to high level.

#1 - Sneak up there...
http://img496.imageshack.us/img496/4870/howtoazureagate14hq.jpg

#2 - Kill the Ogre Shaman, there are many so pick one who is alone and far away from getting backup. :P
http://img496.imageshack.us/img496/6931/howtoazureagate28ks.jpg

I got my Azure Agate on the first drop.. :P - That's it! :D
Btw, notice my low hp after the combat. That is because I was training my skill in sword, had 120 of 205 so thats why. I could probably kill him with 70+ % hp if I played as I usually do and with my polearm. )

When you come in to Stromgarde take a right into the alliance friendly area, then a left right before you go under the archway and there you have it. The above way works and is the way i came in but this way tends to be easier.

Just before the slope that takes you into this place, there is a ledge you can jump onto on your left.&nbsp It'll take you far enough in where you can drop down and kill one, grab the loot (if your lucky) and hearth out (or die and use a spirit healer).&nbsp Or, if you're a ranged character, you can wait untill they run out of mana, and they'll come run right up to ya!&nbsp No need to die needlessly! =)&nbsp I did this with my 42 Shadow Priest.&nbsp The item dropped on the first one, so it must have a higher drop rate then what's currently recorded.

Hope this helps! =)

Several people mentioned the ledge around the back. Again, if you are ranged, you can just go in the hole in the wall, and stay on the ledge to find a shaman (I went to the right).

I thought this might be tricky because of my minion. So I used my succubus (lesser invisibility) and she went undetected by the other ogres as she went to the one I targeted, and, happily, when he ran out of mana and came up after me, he didn't bring anyone else, and I got the drop.

This was much preferable to the sad PUG I was previously in where we must have killed at least 20 ogres and only one of the three people in the group had a drop.

SO I highly recommend soloing this quest.

Firstly, the ledge is a good plan! However, having not read the previous instructions properly I did NOT enter Stomgarde, but proceeded to pick my way round the outer wall to the southwall looking for a ledge! Don't do this, as you will fall in the sea and have to hearthstone (in my case to SW)and griffin back, as there is no way back up without a very long swim!
So, having dunked in the sea, hearthed, froze my butt off, still dripping wet, on the back of a griffin, journeyed across treacherous highyways back to Stromgarde, I entered the place. Took first right then left. Found the ledge to my right just as the road dips. The jump up is just in the corner by the little black shrub. The good news is that i got the drop from the first shaman i killed - having traversed to the far side of the ledge. There is a big gun elite halfway along with some shaman - aviod these as they will pull as a group.
I recommend the shaman on the far side and going into stromgarde first helps! Anyone got a towel?

I'd just like to point out that the fastest way to this area is not actually entering Stromgarde Keep via the gate, or the crack in the wall on the right side. For those with Co-ords simply go to 21,72 (those without co-ords, while facing the entrance of the keep, turn left and run around the castle wall. You should reach a small alcove with the water in front of you. ) Upon reaching this point, while facing the water, if you turn right there is a somewhat steep hill that you can easily climb ( may be fiddly ) leading to a large gap in the wall. (gap co-ords 21,70) At this point you do not need to jump down. And will not agro ogres from the ground. Simply circle your way around to the location required and jump down at a valid entry point. This is only to amend the fact that this IS climbable and you do not need to make your way around along the hillside.

Wownorwayrinor - Thanks for the screenshots.

Just solo'd it with a lvl 39 lock. Got the drop second time.

You need to be pretty careful to pull only 1 at a time (they may take a strange route to get you on the ledge and bring another with them). Yep - had to use my SS once.. but total 15 minutes to complete.

Just a little addition... Enter the Keep from the main entrance and keep to the RIGHT wall. Make a right turn first chance you get. Just before you reach the alliance soldiers make a left turn. The ridge WoWNorwayRinor so brilliantly suggests to be used is found on your left at the end of this street, just before the street declines.
This way you will probably only have to kill one Boulderfist Mauler (38 elite) before you are at the location with the Shamen... and if you are very lucky (skilled) you might not even have to kill that one and can sneak by when he is away.
I soloed this as a lvl 40 warlock, but there is no reason why a lvl 38 or lvl 39 shouldn't be able to do it - just as long as you are careful and only draw the fire of one shaman at a time :-).

Linked up with a couple of others who were headed inside Stormgarde Keep, but they had already completed this quest. Unfortunately, they were just randomly attempting to kill NPCs with no strategy, no group communication, etc.

After about 5 minutes near the base of the tower, both of my "group" members were killed. I was able to loot two NPCs by the entrance to the tower, and one of them had the Azure Agate. I was extremely lucky.

I stealthed back out of the keep and turned in the quest.

Yes, it's ONLY a Ogre shaman's drop, inside Stromgarde's Keep. I would suggest going in party, there are several elite mobs there, it was really hard for my lvl 39 priest to pass through first mobs (some invisible rogues and warlocks too close to each other...)

It's a rare drop. I've heard of people getting it at the first chance and others who have been there for more than 1 hour.

I soloed pretty easily as a 38 hunter. The key is to progress slowly and keep track of where each of them spawn, who walks around and how far they go. You have to kill about 6 things to get back around where the shamans spawn. Took me three kills to get the drop. Hope this helps.

To get to the spot on his first image you can just walk anticlockwise around the outside of the keep until you get there. The wall has a breach onto the ledge at that point.
