Description

Ah, you're in need of my latest project... the extra-dimensional ghost revealer! Unfortunately I've run out of funds and manpower.

You're willing to help? Excellent! Our first task is to build a device to harvest the very fabric of death! Building an ectoplasmic distiller won't be an easy task, <name>.

I'll need you to bring me an arcanite converter, some greater eternal essences and stonescale oil. I'll also need some volcanic ash from the lava pools in the Burning Steppes to build a filter.

Read this if you are confused about what you get from the quest

This is part of the tier 0 armor set. Its just one quest along the line of quests to get your upgraded belt and gloves. Doesnt matter what class you are it is the same. You just get your classes item. You do not get them from the bag. The bag gives you the items which you will need for the next quest.

Do not do this quest unless you already have the Belt and gloves because you may find that you get tier 1 or better before you get the chance to get the tier 0 item. Then you will have wasted your gold and on some servers it can be very expensive. I just checked the AH and it costs me about 80g just for the items for this quest. Only do this quest if you really want to upgrade your items and dont want to have to go get your tier 1 set.

Stop asking what you get in the bag.
it is said above and ill say it again

1 Ectoplasmic Distiller (quest item)
8 Goblin Rocket Fuel (quest item)
6 EZ-Thro Dynamite II
1 Discombobulator Ray

Hello All,

I've heard a lot of complaints about the time and money spent on upgrading from Valor to Heroism.&nbsp So I decided to add up all the numbers of both sets to see if its worthwhile.&nbsp Im sure these numbers are already posted but I didn't wanna spend the time trying to find them.&nbsp And if they aren't, then hey, I saved you guys some time.

Set perks are the same, just in reverse order!&nbsp

Valor Set Totals:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Heroism Set Totals:

Armor: 3622&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Armor: 3887
Stam:&nbsp 131&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Stam:&nbsp 150
Str:&nbsp 110&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Str:&nbsp 138
Agil:&nbsp 56&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Agil:&nbsp 50
Spir:&nbsp 35&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Spir:&nbsp 0
Def:&nbsp 0&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Def:&nbsp 15
Crit%: 0&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Crit%: 2
Hit%:&nbsp 0&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Hit%:&nbsp 2

Here's the tradeoff after you subtract Valor from Heroism:

Gained with Heroism:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Lost with Heroism:

Armor: 265&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Agil: 6
Str:&nbsp 28&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Spir: 35
Stam:&nbsp 19
Def:&nbsp 15
Crit%: 2
Hit%:&nbsp 2

I think the answer is clear!&nbsp I'd trade 6 agility and 35 spirit for all the additional armor, strength, stam, def, crit% and hit% any day.&nbsp Is it worth the time and money?&nbsp Well, you'll have to decide that for youself.&nbsp But what else are you gonna do with your time?&nbsp For the cost and the benefit of upgrading...I'd say its worthwhile.&nbsp Unless, you just decide to start raids like ZG and AQ20 and skip this upgrade.&nbsp But, the upgrade would sure be nice to have before you go into those places.&nbsp

Take Care,

CragHack

This quest is obtained after completing the Bracers of valor quest. Its a very expensive Q, so think twice before completing it. After you hand in the items needed and the 40g, he gives you a bag and the Ectoplasmic Distiller. Open the bag, and you will find Goblin Rocket Oil. The next quest says that you have to use the Ectoplasmic Distiller to collect Ectoplasm from Undead. I went to Silithus first, since it is not far away. This, is the hardest part. Go to Southwind Village and put a Distiller in front of the gate. Pull a mob into the light and kill it. Beware, if a mob dies 3 swarmers appear. If you can't AoE, bring a friend. Next is Eastern Plaguelands. Visit Stormwind or Ironforge to buy some more Goblin Rocket Fuel. It's a hard Q to complete just with 8. gather the Ectoplasms at Corrin's Crossing. Winterspring is easy.

Read somewhere on here that you had to grind for the ash. Not true. So, just for clarification, its like Un'Goro Soil, in piles around the lava areas.

Think about what you are getting and how much it's costing. 80g? I think that is damn cheap for a nice blue and a epic. I'm not sure if all sets are layed out the same, but my Devot to Virtuous hand is purple. You are paying 80g for 2 great items (I say great if you are casual and don't raid, yes they do exist).

The most expesive thing about this quest is the Delicate Aranite Converter (that and teh 40 some gold to even turn it in). This is how casual stuff work. It's not supposed to be easy and cheap. If you don't raid, then they have to make it take more than 20 mins to get your tier .5 gear. THey do this by making is expensive so that it might take you some time to complete it all. Makes sense to me.

Be aware that after you have the distiller there is more expense.&nbsp (also note that in two weeks of asking I could not find anyone to make the converter so learned engineering from scratch to 285 just to be able to get one whcih cost a fotune in parts).&nbsp The converter itself costs about 40G if you buy the Arcanite Bar and ironweb silk, plus you need to give the quest giver 40G with it, so about 80g.

When you hand in you then collect ectoplasm which isn't hard, however you need Goblin Rocket Fuel to power the collector and what I was given wasn't enough so bout 6 more for 5G

After you hand the ectoplasm in you then have to go to Buring Steppes and kill Magma Lord Bokk and take his Magma Heart which is easy and free!

When you hand this in you have to go to Winterspiring and dodge the 60 Elites in Dark Whisper Gorge to get to a cave and buy a rod from a Shifty Dealer which costs another 40G.

Then when you hand this in you get given the quest item to take back to the guy in Thralls hall who gave you the quest in the first place.&nbsp He then accepts this and gives you another quest to collect the Gloves and Belt reward.&nbsp I was stupid and had not realised at this stage that he would not just give me the gear (having spent the best part of 150G).&nbsp You can only get them by swapping them for Belt and Gauntlets of Valor as with the Bracers.&nbsp Just checked AH and these cost on my realm about 100G - 120G for the pair or you need to quest your feet off to get the drop.

All in all for 200 - 300G there is probably better value in AH for similar items.

boy what a waste of time this was.&nbsp I spent an hour killing everything in Burning Steps and could not work out why it would not drop.&nbsp
Finally i saw a silver cog when my mouse was moving around and i followed that, and there was a pile of the ash on the freakin ground.

THE ASH is just a pickup! You dont need to kill anything.&nbsp It looks like an upside-down cone of grey brown dust about a 1/2 meter diameter.&nbsp It's all through the volcanic lava flow right beneith the Horde flight point in Burning Steps.

To gather all 25 Volcanic Ash took less than 5 mins as it tends to drop in 3s and 2s.

My initial quest started from IF (Deleria)just inside the door to left where King Bronzbeard is. She sent me to get 15 bloods from the Winterspring Cats and/or bears. Upon completion she took my Beaststalker Bindings, the blood and 20G and turned them into Beast Master bindings. Afterwards she was attacked my 3 stealth baddies and then gave me the quest to go see Mux Manascrambler and bring the blood samples to him.&nbsp I gave him the samples picked up another 3G and changed and now have this Ectoplasmic Distiller quest. Does this tie in to more BS to BM equipment conversion or am I just going to end up with a bag of crap or items that are soulbound that I can only sell for 2G after spending 80g?

Maybe I'm just not understanding this quest.&nbsp I had my magister's gloves and belts on my character when I completed this quest, and none of it upgraded to sorcerer's.

I'm lead to believe that each part of this quest upgrades a differnt part of the set.&nbsp can someone give me info on what needs to be done?&nbsp I have these things to consider:

* I was (and still am) lvl 58 while I started and completed the quests thus far.

* I don't have the full set.&nbsp Just the bracers (which upgraded) the belt, and the gloves.

I haven't completed the whole quest series, because i'm afraid that if I do, I won't be able to upgrade the set pieces I don't have.

Please tell me I didn't blow 100+ gold on this quest for nothing.

I am doing this questline on my new alliance shaman, for no good reason, just to be doing it.
The arcane crystal was 85s on AH, thorium bar was like 60s. Used em together to get a arcanite bar for 1.45g. Then bought an ironweb spider silk for 1g on AH, and combined it with the arcanite bar for a delicate arcanite converter total cost of 2.45g. Stonescale oil I didn't feel like fishing for, so i got 20 on AH for 17g, and resold the other 10 I didnt need for 9g. Got the 4 greater eternal essences from my enchanting alt who holds a ton of enchanting mats, and the volcanic ash was easy to get scroll up for locations in Burning Steppes. Nice easy quest at lvl 70 =P

no one is mentioning the 40g that you have to turn in with it, and few are mentioning the set pieces you turn them in with. So using the above prices if you buy everything its 125g + 2 pieces you still have to grind for or buy (more gold).&nbsp Even with the guy who said he did it for 1g (you must have found some nice poeple to help you) its really 41g + 2 set pieces. This is by no means a cheap quest.

First, I never spend anywhere near 120g for an epic in MC/BWL. It takes about 5-6 raids per peice (you hav to accrue dkp usually), which comes to about 20-30g in repair bills.

Considering the steps, these quests should not require money. Did Blizzard forget that you'll have to GET the tier 0 pieces first? Why not make the quests so that you cannot get them until you have the pieces, then not charge so much gold?

I understand casual players shouldn't be able to run out and get a full epic set in 2 hours, but this isn't the way to implement it. Most are going to get tired of this quest line and give up. Why are we spending so much time doing these in Tanaris/Silithus/EPL and not in the DUNGEONS?

These quests were slapped together real quick at Blizzard design, and I fear that's the direction a lot of end-game content is taking. The new quests always require:

- lots of gold
- something from EVERY tradeskill (which inflates the AH)

This step alone, I've spent 40g on the oil,40g on the turnin, 30g on the distiller, another 40g on the essences, and about 4g on repairs.

154g is in no way a casual expense for one step of a long quest chain.

By Anonymous on 07/13/2006 (Patch 1.11.2)
It should be noted that this quest chain is prefaced by upgrading your Dungeon Set Bracers to the next level. The end of this long chain of quests will upgrade your Belt and Gauntlets to the next tier. Don't think immediate needs on this one. :)

This really isn't that expensive. I lucked out and my level 29 enchanter had 7 essence i need, so i had the 4 so no paying... My main which i am doing this for has 300 fishin +25 with fishing pole and +75 more with the bobbers, so that makes it a cake walk to get the fish to make the oil.

My main is also alc 300, with herb 315 so i can make the oil as well...

Only cost is the Arcanite and the turn in... Which wasn't even half the gold i have...

At level 60 you can get 50 gold or so in an hours worth of farming. Thats just basic herbs.

Worth it in my opinion because its such a pain to just get into a raid guild let alone have to run 6 times just to be able to pay (dkp) for an item, and thats IF or WHEN it drops.

4x Greater Eternal Essence costed me 5g each, allakhazam average price is 8g.

10x Stonescale Oil] dont remember the price I bought them for, but average allakhazam price is 90s each.

1x (Item #22115) which ull get from one of the other quests in the chain. This is for use in later t0.5 quests.

I'm surprised nobody has really pointed out that the gold price part isn't all that bad. At 60 you can farm 50-60g a day easily as a casual player just soloing SM repeatedly - up to 100g with a lucky drop or two. Most people just don't like to take several of their few days in the week to play doing it, but it's what you have to do for this quest if you're a casual player. Hardcores shouldn't even be bothering with the 0.5 set.
