A Shifty Merchant

Search for an imp inside a cave at the entrance of Darkwhisper Gorge in southern Winterspring, purchase a Fel Elemental Rod and return to Mux Manascrambler in Gadgetzan.
Fel Elemental Rod

Description

The core will provide us with enough juice to power our device; now we just have to build a rod that can channel that energy without melting.

I met an imp in Winterspring that sold all manner of exotic goods. He had an elemental rod that would do perfectly. I'm kicking myself in the head right now for not having bought it.

He lives inside a cave in the entrance to Darkwhisper Gorge. Sneak in there and try to find him.

Make sure he only charges you forty gold; that's the price he quoted me!

Why do people keep asking "is it worth it"? You do the math. Spend lots of gold and do tons of tough quests, all for gear that won't be worth !@#$ when Burning Crusade comes out in a month from now.

But I'm still doing it. Why? Just for the sake of completion, just to have all the 0.5 pieces and look cool in them, even though the stats aren't great at all compared to lvl 65 greens. Most people want a completed set, and this is a pretty fun way to do it, instead of getting 20 people together, killing a boss and hope that it'll drop the tier 1 or 2 piece that you're missing.

I find the quest chain fun, so that's why I'm still doing it. Hope you have fun with your chain.

Good luck

Follow the road south from Everlook.

When you get to the end of the snow where all the elites are, stay on the road and look directly in front of you. The cave is up a small hill.

There are two demons guarding each side of the road, go to their right along the side of the hill. Getting around the one right in front of the cave is easy, you just need patience to watch his path. Go around when it's clear. I aggroed him but had enough time to buy the rod and get out unharmed.

58,78 are the cords. I bypassed all the elites and bought mine for 50g. This can be done solo, without fighting

For those that complain about the effort, any time you can quest for an epic it takes time, effort and mats in varying degrees. So those that complain about the cost try farming for a certain epic. You will crap away more time than what the G would be worth this set.

Or try the other quests for epic items that aren't tier .5. The whole goal is that they are EPICS and tough to get for reasons. People have raiding end game for items that either they never see drop or get beat for on rolls/dkp. If you want it that easy buy an account off e-bay with tier two gear and stop complaining.

Next quest in the chain for Alliance is "Return to Deliana". Quest reward is 3g 96s. (Doesn't seem to exist in thottbot at the moment.)

Completing that yields "Just Compensation" which gives you your 0.5 Tier set Belt and Gloves.

When you turn in the rod to Max in Tanaris, you get this quest https://classicdb.ch/quest=8977

Then you have to run back to IF to get and turn in the quest and get the darkmantle belt and gloves if you already own the shadowcraft belt and gloves.

Hope this help.

The name of the imp is Vi'el (https://classicdb.ch/?npc=16015) and you'll find him at 56,74. I was able to hug the right side as soon as I entered the area and it led me right to him.

Also, I accidentially pulled a large demon, but continued to run to Vi'el. The demon left once I was past the Imp.

The reason it is 40g for some and 50g for others is because the quest "A Shifty Merchant" reduces it to 40g. The quest quotes, "Make sure he only charges you forty gold that's the price he quoted me!"

Just walk to the right of the pillars on the right wall and keep clear of the last mob at the entrance to the cave. Super easy not aggroing them.

This fella reminds me of the Creeper from The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.&nbsp Creeper was a Scamp(Imp)who was in fact a merchant who bought your goods at market value in Caldera.&nbsp

Great now I'm gonna try to talk to all the crab creatures in the game.&nbsp ^_^

When you approach the gorge you will see two pillars to the right, scoot up the incline at the base of the mountain between the mountain and pillars.&nbsp Almost immediately to your right you will see an incline with a pathing Hederine Manastalker (A type of felhunter). Wait for a moment and observe his movements, he seems to path along two different routes. When the timing is right, run up the left edge of the slope and again wait untill some distance is between you. Once again time your movements correctly and hug the outer face of the cave and run inside.

Reverse the directions to exit.

Good luck!

I bought the rod before the quest as well for 40g before the quest.

But basically if you go to buy the item and it's 50g, abandon the quest and check the price again, just pick up the quest when your back in Tanaris.

Just went there, and let my pet be dismissed. Run past the demons and &*!@, and feign inside the cave, piece of cake. =)

Got my rod for 40g, perhaps some rep thing, dunny. However, the dude is some kind of demon spawn, green to me. Couldn't tell which faction he belongs to.

My guess is one or the other of the Steamwheedle Cartel factions. Everlook seems likely, as he says "my jail...er, minion..." Supposedly he's locked in there for some reason. Ohwell. =)

Stick to the right wall of the canyon avoiding the two elite Hederine Slayers guarding the entrance to the Deadwhisper Gorge... keep hugging the wall and go past 2 dead trees.

There is sometimes a 60 Elite Felhunter guarding the cave which you can see once your past the 2nd tree... is was able to take it out with my 60 shadow priest so other classes should not have any trouble with it.

Inside the cave is the imp reagent vendor, Vi'el which as stated before... charges 40g before this quest and 50 when you get this quest, so get the rod before you get this mission.

In case you don't have a coordinates mod, keep following the rod south, don't get off the road and go down, the cave is across the bridge and a little further into the "dark" area. Any sneaky class should be able to get the rod easily. just got this only cost me 40 gold and I had the quest as of 23-06-06 very easy.

the cave is just up the hill to the right as they say.&nbsp They have left us room on the right side of the road by the pillar to sneak most of the way up the hill without fighting.&nbsp I had one Demon hound gaurding the last bit of the hill.&nbsp I ran up to him and feared him then went inside and bought the rod.&nbsp Then I silenced him and ran back down the hill and feared him one more time.

Follow the road south until you see the earth turn brown. The cave is straight ahead. But don't follow the road ... hug the mountain wall on the right until you get to the cave. There was one elite mob in front of the cave mouth I just ran past, bought the rod, and then died. Spirit rez at Everlook, and you're done.

Hi All.

First of all. Thanks for all you guy's who write in here. It's have been a great help for me in one year now.

When this Quest is done., can I then go and get the gloves and then go to Tanaris and turn in this Quest ?

I have the Belt of Valor and Bracers of Heroism on me now.

I haven't be able to get the Gloves of Valor, yet.

That's why I'm asking. I would like to do the quest in the meantime and wait with turn in "Gloves" for upgrade.

Thanks again, all :o)

It just costs too damn much.
First you have to farm the t0 instances, and when you're done with that, pay around 300g in total to get the set upgraded.

no tricks are needed for this quest..... go south from everlook, soon as you see the first two demon guards go to your right and jump forward behind the trees. youll see a path going up to the cave with a fell hunter, wait till he pats all the way down and head to your right as far as possible and then right into the cave. grab your crap, wait for the fel to pat back down, and leave the same way you came in. not a scratch. if you aggro you really should find a new game to play =)

I just bought the rod with the quest and only paid 40g.&nbsp There must be some other factors that determine whether or not he charges 40g or 50g.

I'm a druid and just stealthed past all the elites and up into the cave.&nbsp Pretty easy.

for a mage way worth it. The mage sets suck to begin with unless you get netherwind. and these are all easily soloable. If you can get the first 6 pieces do it. Than piece together the other items with some really great non-end game gear and you will be way above average...less netherwind gear.

I did this quest and I didn't die. Sneak pass the two 60 elites before the cave.&nbsp Get as close as you can without causing agro to the one in front of the cave.&nbsp Then run into the cave to talk to this guy.&nbsp As soon as he hits you once, throw your Divine Shield, quickly buy the Fel Elemental Rod, then run out of there.&nbsp Stun that elite before you're out of range.&nbsp Advoid the other two elites as you did before.&nbsp Keep running, your shield will last long enough so you don't get hit again.&nbsp You will run just out of the area before you lose agro on that elite and then you are home free.
