Samophlange

Access the control console at the Venture Company research site.
Provided Item:
Control Console Operating Manual

Description

The Venture Company set up a small research facility far to the north of here, southwest of the Sludge Fen. I don't know very much about what they're doing, but did manage to discover that they're experimenting with something called a "samophlange".

Now what the heck is a samophlange? Well, whatever it is, I want to examine it, so I need someone to go get it.

I obtained a copy of their control system operating manual, you should be able to figure out how to disengage the samophlange from it.

As the single most frustrating (next to the voidwalker quest) in the game.&nbsp Since pretty much every Horde ends up in the Barrens, I have now done this quest as six different classes and it never gets less frustrating, though I have the method down pat and no longer pull my hair out after forgetting a step.

The location has been confirmed several times.&nbsp Go north out of XR and past the road to Durotar.&nbsp Before it curves left heading for Ashenvale, head northeast and you'll see a house up on a hill and a smaller structure with three tanks to the west of it (an identical version is in Ratchet in the shop where you get the Freebooters quest.&nbsp Do the following in this exact order.

Approach from the south of the 3 tank thingy.&nbsp The control console should be in front of you.&nbsp Kill the five mobs nearest the console and DON'T LOOT ANYTHING.&nbsp The respawn rate is bad enough without speeding it up by looting.&nbsp Loot only what is left after you're ready to get the key.&nbsp Right-click on the console and you'll get a Quest 2 to turn off the 3 valves.&nbsp

The valves are on the other three sides of the three tank thingy.&nbsp they are near the ground and look like little wheels with steam coming out from them.&nbsp You'll have to kill the 3-5 mobs around each one and there will most likely be a couple of them right next to each other that spawn after you kill all the mobs in step one.&nbsp I prefer going counterclockwise to turn off the east, north and west valves, but you can go the opposite way if it turns you on.&nbsp Once all the valves are off you get to head back to the control console again.

By the time you turn off all three valves all the mobs by the console will have respawned.&nbsp Deal with it.&nbsp Also, you might want to keep a slowing spell or an instant cast kill spell handy for when the mobs are about 1/4 life, because that's when they bolt and get help.&nbsp I kept pulling 10 mobs in sequence as a Warrior because I kept forgetting to get in Battle stance to use Hamstring, and kept getting adds this way.&nbsp Keep an eye on that health bar, and as it approaches 25%, use your most powerful cast and then an insta-kill spell to fry that sucker.&nbsp You'll be glad you did.

Back to our story: step three is to go back to the control console, killing the same five mobs you already killed, only to find out upon right-clicking the console that you need the key. What can I say? Blizzard is full of sadistic bastards that were probably laughing their asses off while programming this.&nbsp So accept part three of the quest: "I am going to kill the whole QA department by drowning them in my accumulated bile".

The key is held by a level 16 goblin in the little house on top of the hill to the east.&nbsp You will have to take care of the 5-6 mobs on the hill and in front of the house first.&nbsp You can either charge in the house as a warrior or blast him from outside as a mage, but just kill him and get the key. The key DOES NOT SHOW UP IN YOUR INVENTORY, so make sure you've got it or get a mod that tells you so.&nbsp

Run back to the control console and kill the same five mobs a third time to access it.&nbsp Then right-click on the console to remove the samophlange.&nbsp You'll need to click twice to open the panel with the key and then remove the samophlange.&nbsp Then loot anything still sparkling and get the hell out of there.&nbsp You may want to yell: "I FINISHED YOUR STUPID QUEST YOU SONS OF A MOTHERLESS OGRE".&nbsp It made me feel better.&nbsp Your mileage may vary.

One of the most obscure pop culture references in World of Warcraft, this quest's repeated name is a reference to, of all things, a Thunder Cats out-take. Googling "Blundercats" does a good job of finding it.

This concerns the first of the Samouphlage quests. Don't think the large structure in the swamp is where you have to look for the samouphlage. The hut is southwest of the swamp, just like it says in the quest description, but you might miss it if you go there from Crossroads.

The hut you are looking for is a small house with octagonal base area, a red pointy roof, and some sort of machinery with a small tower south of it.

OK, Lets make this as simple as possible.
Go to the Samophlange. You will see 2 different buildings. Go to the little house and inside you will find a control panel, pull each lever. Now go down to the area with the greenish tanks are, this is where you have to go to shut off valves.
Go to the control panel and pull levers down. Then shut off the valves (3) that are around the sides of the tanks.
Now go to the small building and kill the little guy inside again, he has the key.
Then
Go back to the control panel and insert the key into the control panel at the greenish liquid area this completes this leg of the task. You will be told to go to Rachet..

Sounds complicated, but really not.
I was lvl 15 warrior and died at least 10 times. You might want to bring some help.

Good luck!

I just finished this one solo with my 16 Druid. Not too hard, but interesting nonetheless.

TIP: You may see the hut first. There is a small machine inside next to the guy you kill *later* for the key. The real machine is larger with cylindrical aqua-colored fuel tanks... located just past the hut out in the open. This is where you go first.

I really hate this quest chain, don't die then you need to run from crossroad and the spawn time of the goblins is where short, so you proberly have to kill the same mobs again.... and don't let them flee they just get some friends

When you first approach the machinery, you go to the equipment with the chimney and access the control panel in the front.&nbsp It will then instruct you to turn off three valves. THESE VALVES MUST BE TURNED OFF BEFORE YOU GO LOOKING FOR A KEY.&nbsp The Valves are on the outside of that same equipment building on the left, right and back.&nbsp Once done you go back inside and are then instructed to get a key.&nbsp THAT'S WHEN YOU GO TO THE LITTLE HOUSE (on the right up the hill) --- kill the guy inside who drops the key.&nbsp Then it's back to the control panel for the final shut down.

Loc 52,12 in the Barrens

Just to clarify. The quest is in 4 Parts at the loc above. As already said, ignore the big compound.

Part one goto the Loc above. Access the control pannel.

Part two, go behind the building and turn off the 3 valves and go back to the control pannel.

Part three, go to the little hut, kill the guy inside, get his key. Go back to the control pannel.

Part four, take quest back.

Just do parts 1 - 3 quickly because the spawn time on these guys is fast and the mobs around the control pannel are large althought of a low level.

"Go to the little house and inside you will find a control panel, pull each lever."

You do not need to do this step.

Also, did this quest as a lvl 13 druid, didn't die once... only difficult part is they run so make sure to pull them back.

Um... after u get it broken again you have to go to orgrimmar to get it fixed from a guy. then it begins a new quest where you go and find the pages of the manual to fix it. Just sayin. so after you finish the 4 part if you are alliance then u should abandon because you probably wont be able to get in to orgrimmar.

I did this with a lvl 16 druid and a buddy a week ago. I had tried to solo it but failed. The problem was with the adds, as it has been pointed out that the mobs run for help with quite a bit of life left. So it was not so much tough mobs but time-consuming to deal with the adds and drink up as I used wrath and moonfire to kill the runners. And because the respawn rate is higher than usual, I was busy clearing out mobs and constantly got interrupted at the controls. My buddy (a lvl 19 mage) took care of the mobs while I concentrated on the controls.

I did this again with a lvl 20 hunter (beast mastery) soloing last night and completed it without much problem. In stead of sending in the pet, I'd shoot a mob at max range and let it come to me. My pet (a cat) was set to protect me so it would fight the mob once it started to hit the hunter. The hunter would join the melee. When the mob ran, the pet gave chase and hunter stayed and would shoot once the mob got far away enough. With that I never got any adds. I also did not loot so that I could keep ahead of the respawn. I was attacked by two respawns when I was working on the last control, which I took care of with my pet and I in melee. I imagine this tatic would work for lower level hunters and locks as well, though it would take longer to dispatch the mobs. I thought of sending in the pet to agro the mobs and lead them away from the controls, but I love it too much to sacrafice it that way.

Hope this helps.

Didn't know there were 3 follow up quests after this one. First you have to acess the control pannel, then turn off 3 values, and then go to the house next to the machine and kill some guy to get the key to the control pannel. Take the part to some guy in Ratchet and then some lady north of crossroads (hard to find) and then get some parts to repair the item. wow, one quest after another.

Does anyone else feel that this quest is set a bit low, even for a warlock I cant solo this quest a lvl 15. The mobs run at a much higher health than other mobs nearby and usually end up aggroing 2 or 3 more nearby Venture Co mobs.

by the time I clear out enough to get to the valves, one respawns right next to me and interupts the access time on the valve.

What am I doing wrong?

I've been searching for hours for this control console, and I can't find it...

First I thought it was the Control Room on top of that strange building in the middle of a dirty little black lake (NE of the Kodo Bones for the Echeyakee Quest). But the mob levels (15-19) didn't match with the Quest level (13-15).

Then I thought it had to be somewhere near Boulder Lode Mine, but no luck there either...

Is there anyone who can tell me an exact location of this stupid control panel, and not just an indication like: "It's to the NE of the Crossroads..." Besides, what does it look like?

Please, a little help... I don't have the time to spend a few hours a day playing WoW, so I'd like to advance a little faster than I am now...

Take the road north from the Crossroads. Just as it turns northwest, head off to the northeast and you'll see a big strange machine. Access the control panel to get the next quest.
