Pyrewood Shackle (6)

Description

As my understanding of Arugal's magic grows so does my disdain for the hapless fool. I am close to completing my research on his so called remedy.

My knowledge will be complete when I learn what enchantment is causing the strange behavior going on in Pyrewood Village. By day, the peasants appear to be Human. But when the sun goes down the townsfolk turn into Moonrage Worgen.

I need to draw energy from the enchanted shackles Arugal cast on them. Bring to me six enchanted Pyrewood Shackles, <name>.

Soloed at L18 undead shadow priest... I found it best to enter the village at the west entrance located at coordinates 47:74... I pulled one Moonrage at a time and avoided the 2-man patrols.&nbsp The shackles do NOT only drop from elders they also drop from watchers and sentries.&nbsp It took me one hour and a lot of patience, but I got all 6 shackles.&nbsp I did the quest at night when all the humans had turned into Moonrages, so I don't know about the shackles dropping by day?&nbsp I would not say this was tough at all so much as using battle tactics.

My tactic worked out perfectly... I would first cast Fortitude, Rank 2 and Inner Fire, Rank 1 on myself.&nbsp I then pulled using Shadow Word: Pain, Rank 2, and then ran back around the bldg to where I had slipped into the fence.&nbsp This niche is perfect because once they run from fear of death, they NEVER bring reinforcements as they get stuck in the niche, or can't walk far enough to get the reinforcements before they come back to you for the final blow.

Once they're in the niche with you, DoT them again with Shadow Word: Pain, Rank 2 and Touch of Weakness, Rank 1.&nbsp Then hit them with your wand until your own life is down by half.&nbsp At that point, throw a Power Word: Shield, Rank 2 around yourself and use Heal, Rank 1 (NOT Lesser Heal).&nbsp As soon as you're healed, refresh Shadow Word: Pain, Rank 2 on the monster, and attack again with your wand.&nbsp Repeat this until they're dead.&nbsp Rinse and repeat until you have all 6 shackles.&nbsp That's it!&nbsp Good Luck!

Confirmed that shackles drop during daytime. Do the quest whenever you want.

The Inn is located straight down from the main entrance to the city, its behind a little "fountain" looking thing at the bottom of the trail. It has exactly the same setup/layout as the Inn in Brill.

I don't believe anybody has mentioned this yet... but I'm pretty sure if you do this quest at night they are Moonrage mobs (werewolves) and during the day they are Humanoids. Both drop the required quest items.

It's easier to do it during the night anyway, because
in werewolf form they don't have bows. They are easier to pull out of range from the other mobs. Better time for melee classes as well.

There's also a quest in one of the houses that you can do easily if you are a rogue with some battle healing items (pots, jewelers stone statues).

Post-2.3, this is no longer marked as a group quest, but the mobs are still elite. Be aware.

Did it solo as a lvl 16 warlock. Just pull the mobs outside and kill them. Be patient. It took me 30 minutes, had to run 3-4 times.

You dont have to enter the village. You can fight the watcher at the entrance one on one. You can also pull more watcher's and sentry's one on one who are standing just inside of the village. Just avoid the elder who patrols with another sentry or watcher. They will sooner or later drop the shackles. May take a while but it's a safe and efective way of doing this solo. There is a house just to the right of the village on the Road to SDK. You can wait and heal in there till they respawn again. They have a short respawn time. The only concern is the Son of Arugal who roams around outside of the village.

Edit* Make sure you pull them up the road a bit they tend to run when low on life.

I soloed this as level 18 priest.&nbsp I had absolutely no problem, I didn't die once.&nbsp I sat at the gate and took on the watchers and sentrys there, one on one.&nbsp The watcher on the east side of the gate respawned 4 times, and all&nbsp 4 times, I got a shackle from him. The other 2 I got from the others just inside the gate.&nbsp I didn't go inside except to pull a sentry or a watcher out.&nbsp The elders can heal themselves, and make for a more difficult target.&nbsp All in all, an easy but time consuming quest.

Just finished this last quest with a lvl 15 Pally, was a little difficult, and time consuming - solo - pulled the guards from the front of pyrewood and a couple from inside the gates - one at a time, and waited for them to respawn. Healed after stunning and just kept my mana up. It is possible! LOL.

I remember doing this with my lock, but not until in my 20s, was far too squishy as a lock. (And that was my first char, so probably didn't know what the heck I was doing either. :P )

Have fun guys,

EJ

This quest was very annoying for me, as a level 15/16 shadow priest (dinged while doing it) i died about 4 times due to the runners and no stuns or anything to stop them. I think the quest would be easier at night due to no healers. Also the drop rate was just bad for me, took me about 1 hour to get all 6, bad quest imo.

This quest does not need to be completed in the night time. I think the drop rates might be a little lower in the day time but i have completed it.

Pyrewood Village as the quest says. Located Very very south near Shadow Fang Keep, theirs a path that you can't miss. Bring a party because theirs a protection quest that you protect this lady inside the city hall. Their a lot of elites.

The protection quest is pretty fun because the pyrewood council members walk through the doorway and start fighting. Good loot and good rewards. The undead guard heals herself with potions. Have a healer with you.

Suggestion: Don't Solo!

14-15 elite are easy to kill solo - I was frost Mage 19. Just pull em carefully.
So, patience and concentration, cast frostbolt repeatedly, then when he's close, frost nova and then frostbolt again until death. If facing problems - have Polymorph at ur hand and run :)

Think, there's no problems in getting those shackles solo with 19-20 lvl.

I sorta took the cheap way to finish this quest, as a solo 21 BE priest: I just took on all the single guys just beyond the gate and the single guy in the first house on the left. There is a duo that patrols up to the gate, so I'd run back outside the gate or behind the first house. Never died, but came close a couple of times. Killed about 30 or so guys to get the shackles, but I got 'em! Drop rate is pretty horrible this way, though.
