This quest confused me at the the start for a bit. His initial location is not how it appears on the map.

The dwarf is in the small dark-iron mining camp just to the left as you enter from the badlands. If you enter from Loch, its the second dark iron camp you run into if you keep going straight. He is lying on his back in the pit where the geologists are digging. You clear to him and talk to him to start the quest.

Once started he leaves the pit and you have to defend him as he wanders around a bit. He will aggro everything, beast or humanoid, that comes near. Keep him alive.

Eventually you come to the cauldron and he pauses to tell you his team is trapped down there. He then proceeds up a small wooden plank to an open area. In the middle of this open area you are ambushed by 4 dark iron dwarves. You may also have spider adds. Keep him alive.

When the four dwarves are dead, he runs erratically to the Loch gate. If you keep him alive, he will stop just before the gate and be assasinated by a sniper. The sniper is no threat to you. When he dies, he drops a letter next to him and that is the quest piece you have to read.

Happy hunting.

This guy can be found in the pit near the outhouse.&nbsp Its called the Grimsilt dig site I believe.&nbsp Anyways, if you are coming into Searing Gorge from the Badlands, follow the path south when you enter Searing Gorge and it will be the first little camp on the left you come to.&nbsp He is in a little pit and has 2 lvl 43-44 geologists around him.

Clear the pit and the camp at the top of the ramp first then get the quest.&nbsp He will walk up the ramp and across the road to where the glass spiders are.&nbsp You get one spider at a time...easy enough.&nbsp Then you will come to a part where he will say something about the cauldron, then walk up a wooden plank then want to take a breather.&nbsp As soon as he is done tkaing his breather you will get ambushed by 4 lvl 42-44 mobs.&nbsp He can tank one but not two.&nbsp

As a lvl 47 rogue, the first time I did this he died, so the next time I went around and hit 3 of them to get aggro on 3 out of the 4, burned evasion, killed those 3 and then helped him kill the 4th one he was left to tank.&nbsp After that, its easy again.&nbsp He gets close to the gate and gets shot and dies.&nbsp When he dies he drops a note for you to read and that gives you the next part of the quest.

I completed the quest by escorting the guy. He gets shot and then emotes "points to the parchment on the ground". Except there is no parchment on the ground! Where do you get it?

I've tried this quest three times so far, and the biggest problem with this quest is not the quest itself, but other players.

The site is right out of the entrance to Searing Gorge from the badlands near kargath, so you often see entire horde convoys heading towards BWL. The first time I tried it, I got ganked very quickly.

The second time I tried it, I cleared the entire camp but before I could speak to the guy some jackass came and ninjaed him.

The third time, some moron ran through the camp aggroing everything, and died right next to me. I died shortly after.

This was pretty easy. Cleared the camp around him first. After that it's just dealing with a few glassweb spiders one at a time up until the 4-dwarf ambush. Frost Nova, Mana Shield, then keep Blizzarding will keep the aggro on you and do good damage to all of them. You need to take the aggro otherwise they will pound on him and he'll die. Make sure you have a full slate of waters and foods plus mana agate before you start this and be sure to eat and drink at every possible place you can (usually right after each battle) because you will need it. Run ahead of him a bit before you eat+drink so he doesn't get out of range. And yes, when I did it, the note was concealed behind his body from my perspective and I didn't see it at first so look around. Thanks to you guys I checked here when I got confused as there seemed to be no end to the quest.

it says complete but no note dropped unless it glitched and it fell under the ground a bit or something, even after his body faded away still nothing there.

*Edit* did the 2nd time and it finally fell and was able to complete it

&nbsp anyway, ive been going around doing all these stoopid quests for TB rep, and they all seem to be working fine. the parchment falls to the ground(supposedly because he was clenching it in his hand)&nbsp you pick it up from the ground after he dies.&nbsp forgot this is the one satisfying escort quest where you are happy to see the slowpoke mother f****r die...

Kill all the Dark Iron dudes around the ramp to the pit first. Then escort the dude to the gates in the NW corner. Watch out for the ambush in an apparently empty area with fake mining nodes.

Soloed the quest as a 45 draenei shaman. It's easiest to clear the above area of the geologists and golems and then everything is cake from then on. The quest, as of today, was NOT bugged -- he immediately dropped the note upon his death for me, today May 12th, 2008.

If you are having trouble with this quest, simply drop it and try it again. The note was not on the ground when i first did this quest but i dropped it (the quest) and tried it again and it was there. I also play Draenei. Whether its worth the effort for you to retry is up to you.
  • The escort quest starts at the Grimsilt dig site. His co-ords are 63.9,61. Its advised you clear the area before start the escort quest.
  • The Note is at 74.4, 18.3 (this is where you will escort him to and where he will die). You will then be able to pickup the signed letter.
  • You then hand in the note to Curator Thorius who can be found in the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge.
Its worth about 250 rep with Ironforge and exp will depend on your level. I got about 5.8k at lvl 50.

Yes agreed it all seems to work now OK. Dont click on the body but look for a letter that is dropped next to his body. You will get the usual wheel to confirm when you mouse over it...then return to IF to collect the money!

His death does appear a bit buggy. Last night he died and did give over the letter, however clicking on his dead body made him reply with the stock 'you've got my attention' and 'fancy a pint' style emotes :)

I did it after the patch 2.0 and works well. Espect a ambuch of four lvl 45, then follow him to the gate in the north where he will be killed. He gives xp and a letter to be shown in IF.
