Target: Dalson's Tears

Go to Dalson's Tears in Western Plaguelands to locate and defeat the Cauldron Lord present there, and use its key to gain access to the cauldron. You must have the Empty Dalson's Tears Bottle with you to secure a sample of the poisons used inside the cauldron.

Description

One of the plague cauldrons is located in the field of a former farmhouse now referred to as Dalson's Tears. No tears will be shed this day, <class>; we must strike at this cauldron and gain access to it!

Go to Dalson's Tears, almost due north of Andorhal, and eliminate the cauldron lord there. It should have a key like the last one did, allowing you inside the cauldron's innards. Use this bottle to obtain a sample from inside the cauldron; each cauldron has its own distinct brew of toxins it uses.

Have had this problem before and after the 2.0 patch:

Kill Dalson's Tear boss, get key. Standing virtually on top of cauldron, click, get message target is not in range.

Have reported it several times. Reply has been to strip down to default UI and clean out associated files as well as run the WoW repair tool. Have done it ad nauseum and still after abandoning and restarting quest get the same result as above... cauldron out of range for clicking...

bah.....

almost looks like no go for me

The Cauldron Lord respawns if you die before you can complete. You might have to fight him twice.

The Cauldron Lord is simple alone, but if you pull accedentaly one more, it gets alot tougher, he spawn adds and uses shadow bolts, so kill him alone, and don't make the mistake I did.

I did the Felstone Field quest just fine - got the bottle from Vandis, whacked the cauldron boss, got the key, opened the cauldron, bottle filled, went back to Vandis, got this quest.

Then killed the Dalson's cauldron boss, got his key, opened the cauldron, and the whole quest vanished from my log, including the sample bottle.

Sending a ticket to a GM gets you the usual memorized response: "Go back to the quest giver and abandon the quest to start over."

Well, you can't abandon a quest that isn't in your log, which is what this bug does. Unfortunately, once you lose one of the series, you lose all of it, because they are in series.

Solo'd as a 54 affliction-spec'd lock. Got killed by a few adds after killing Cauldron Lord, used soulstone res and looted him no problem.

Be sure to look into: http://classicdb.ch/?quest=5058 while in the area. Admittedly, this "line" is slightly more difficult than the cauldron itself, but still worth doing for added xp while going through the motions.
