Of Love and Family

Travel to Stratholme, in the northern part of the Plaguelands. It is in the Scarlet Bastion that you will find the painting 'Of Love and Family,' hidden behind another painting depicting the twin moons of our world.

Return the painting to Tirion Fordring.
Of Love and Family

Description

The painting... It hung on the wall of my workshop - inside the Order's barracks - for years.

After Tirion's trial was over, I knew that I could no longer keep the painting visible. I hid it in a place that they would never think to look.

Travel to Stratholme and make your way deep inside what is now the Scarlet Bastion, search for a painting of our twin moons. Chip away at the paint until you uncover my master work, 'Of Love and Family.'

May the Light guide your actions.

I am just a bit disappointed that this interesting quest line, which can be easily soloed on 5 of the 6 steps well before level 58 required for the dungeon, requires the getting together of a group to go into scarlet (live) Stratholme ....a dungeon very few people go to any more since the expansion came out.&nbsp

Yes, at the same time as doing this quest line solo could maybe be in hellfire penninsula instead, but I have never been in Stratholme, and did not plan on going since the expansion...now, to follow this mission, I need to get a solid enough group to get to the second-last fight (if I understand correctly the order of the encounters).

From what little I have read of the outland quest lines, very very few have any kind of interesting back story or depth involved....they are just flimsy excuses for 'phat lewt' that puts most MC/ZG/AQ gear to shame.&nbsp This one and the Darrowshire quest trajectory seem very involved and interesting, irregardless of the (now) inferior quest rewards.

Must have made sense to do this at one time in the past...prompt people to go to dungeons.....now it is most unfortunate that the 'old school' dungeons (Scholomance, Stratholme, Dire Maul, Blackrock Spire) just are not at all interesting places to visit for the vast majority of players.

Fingers crossed to find some guildies/others who have a hanckering for some old time dungeoneering!

Lot of comments on getting a group to 5-man this.&nbsp You should be near 60 if you are running this anyway - how did you get that high and not make any friends?&nbsp No guildmates?&nbsp I am not a social person, but... I know enough people to get a good group together or get one scheduled pretty much anytime.&nbsp All I can say is go out - meet people, make friends - its a MMPORPG.&nbsp If you get in a PUG with a good player - stay in contact with them.&nbsp Just drop a "hi" once in awhile when you pass by them, drop them a "hey _____, Im getting a group together to ______, wanna come along?" - so they remember who you are.&nbsp Keep doing things like that, be nice, be respectful and - poof - you start getting a competant group you can run with once in awhile.&nbsp Just my opinion - ok back to the quest.

The painting is deep within the instance and you definitely need a group to do it.&nbsp Prior to the last patch, you could be in a raid to do it, however since the patch you can only do this with a 5 man team, making it vastly more difficult to do.

I'm at this stage and hope to put together a group ASAP, because I want the reward!

Aight, here's whatcha do. The painting is in the Archivist's room, directly across from Balnazzar's room, and on the right wall as you walk in.

If you're in a 5-man, simply hit it after the Archivist and his buddies go down, and you're done.

In a raid, it's a bit more complicated.
1) Beat Balnazzar (duh), this causes Scourge mobs to spawn all throughout the bastion.
2) There is one set of mobs between Balnazzar's room and the Archivist's room after Balnazzar dies, have your raid kill them. If you're a rogue or a druid, who is level 60, you can skip this step and stealth past the mobs (more at step 3.5) DISCLAIMER: With the patch and true sight added to numerous Stratholme mobs, you may not be able to stealth past, I advise doing it the main way to be safe.
3) Ask to be given leadership over the raid, wait for everyone to leave the instance, and once everyone but yourself is out, let everyone leave and/or kick any stragglers.
3.5) *For druids and rogues only, others go to step 4* The mobs will probably detect you at any lower than 60 unless you have Nightscape Boots, Improved Prowl, MoD, etc. If you pass them safely, and are lower than 60, you run the risk of aggroing them while you chip the painting. To avoid this, position yourself as far away from the door as possible while still being able to hit the painting, as described in step 4.
4) Hit the painting, it chips it and reveals your other painting (although you do not need to loot the real painting).

This worked before the most recent patch prior to this date, I haven't tested it to see if it still works. Enjoy.

Well... I 5 manned both scarlet and UD stratholme before, but I didnt have this quest :(. I want that cloak, too. I did it with a priest (me), a druid, a warrior, a mage, and a hunter. I was suprised at how well we did. We killed the baron on our first try and didnt wipe once in the UD side.

solo'd as a 60 rogue (without engineering) its the hardest thing ive ever had to stealth but it can be done with a lot of luck, just have to hope and prey there are only 3 mobs guarding the two doors (sap blind prep blind open vanish) and that evasion works well enough to loot the painting while the archivist tries to&nbsp hit you :D

the other day i got all the way myself. even though i entered throug main entrance. i didnt go through market thingy ... you just gotta "jump" the stealth detecting mobs ..

Need:
Preparation (always good if something goes wrong)
loads of limited invulnerability potions
Magic dust (sleep) .. loot rom lvl 18 mobs in westfall (lol)
some destraction (barov trinket, target dumm you name it)

what you do is : when you see a stealth detecting mob / group of mobs you just find a place nearby to unstealth. you shoot the mob / group . when they run for you , you drink potion and activate sprint and when you run out of their agro range you vanish .. that way you pass the groups. when you are inside the building its cake. even opening the door. sap mage, cheap shot monk, run to door, drink potion and open door , vanish ... cake! ... then go to the last guy where tha painting is , activate distraction (trinket) and that should buy you time to loot the painting. i didnt have trinket last time i made it to the painting therefore i didnt get it but im sure i can do it next time ..

gl ! :)

As of one of the latest patches, this quest can only be completed in a non-raid group of 5. The painting is in the Archivist's room on the wall. You can only 'open' it in a non-raid group, to collect the item.
