The Calling

Geologist Larksbane at Cenarion Hold in Silithus wants you to recover the Crystal Unlocking Mechanism from the Qiraji Emissary.

You have been instructed to take the Glyphs of Calling to the Bones of Grakkarond, south of Cenarion Hold, and draw them in the sand. Should the Qiraji Emissary appear, slay it and recover the Crystal Unlocking Mechanism. Return to Geologist Larksbane if you succeed.

Assemble an army for this task, <name>!
Crystal Unlocking Mechanism

Provided Item:
Glyphs of Calling

Description

The glyphs illustrate an emissary of the Qiraji meeting with three silithid at the bones of a large dragon. Above the glyphs is what I can only assume to be a code of some sort. This code might very well be the key to summoning the emissary.

I will create a copy of the glyph code that you must use in the sand at the Bones of Grakkarond. If I am right, the Overlords will come thinking that new data is ready for transmission. Strike them down and confront the emissary. He holds the key to the crystals...

Here is a complete walkthrough I just created for my guild detailing the entire quest chain with pictures. Enjoy...

The quest line starts at Cenarion Hold in Silithus:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map1.jpg

Talk to Commander Mar'alith and he will give you a quest called Dearest Natalia.

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling1.jpg

Then head south to the Bronzebeard Encampment:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map2.jpg

Speak with the 2 dwarves there- Frankal Stonebridge and Rutgar Glyphshaper (also make sure you pet the monkey):

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling2.jpg

They will tell you a big story about how this lady went crazy, which completes the Dearest Natalia quest and unlocks 2 other mini-quests which you must also complete.

The names of these quests are Breaking the Code which will be given to you by Frankal and Glyph Chasing which will be given to you by Rutgar. *Note: Rutgar also hands you a Geologist's Transcription Kit which is needed to complete his quest, so if you accidentally delete it just abandon the quest and talk to him again to get a new one.

Now before you start these quests, return to Commander Mar'alith in Cenarion Hold and turn in the Dearest Natalia quest. He will give you a new quest called Into the Maw of Madness, which you will complete while doing the other 2.

Basically these quests are going to take you into the 3 hives of Silithus (Hive'Ashi, Hive'Zora and Hive'Regal):

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map3.jpg

It doesnt matter which ones you do first, however I recommend a party of 5 to move through it quickly (although you can still do it fairly easy with 2-3 skilled people).

SUMMARY OF "GLYPH CHASING": In the middle of each hive that is a cave that you need to enter and explore until you find the final room. In this room there will be a small white crystal that you use the Geologist's Transcription Kit on to obtain the rubbing. This quest is completed once you obtain a rubbing from each Hive.

SUMMARY OF "BREAKING THE CODE":&nbsp Make sure you check the bodies of each bug you kill on the way to (and from) the final room of each hive. You are looking for a white quest item named xxx Silithid Brain (xxx being the name of the hive). It is a random drop so if you havent gotten it by the time you finished coming out of the cave then make sure you continue killing bugs until it drops. This quest is completed once you obtain a Silithid Brain from each Hive.

SUMMARY OF "INTO THE MAW OF MADNESS": Inside the final room Hive'Regal you will find a Night Elf priest named Natalia Mar'alithnamed. This quest is completed once you kill her and loot the item from her body.&nbsp (Dont forget to obtain the rubbing from the crystal in that room).

Once you complete all 3 quests return to Commander Mar'alith in Cenarion Hold and turn in Into the Maw of Madness. Then return to the dwarves in Bronzebeard Encampment and turn in Breaking the Code to Frankal and Glyph Chasing to Rutgar.

At this point Rutgar will give you another quest named Unraveling the Mystery. This quest is simple, just take the Glyphed Crystal Prism that he gives you to Geologist Larksbane in Cenarion Hold:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling3.jpg

She will then give you the final quest named The Calling!

At this point you will need a group of 25-40 people to kill the Emissary Romankhan. If your guild is already raiding AQ-40 then it's prolly easiest to just wait until the next raid night and kill him prior to heading inside. Otherwise have fun spamming the LFG channel.

He is summoned at the Bones of Grakkarond:

http://www.unifiedguild.com/downloads/pics/thecalling_map4.jpg

Once he is dead check his body for loot and then return to Geologist Larksbane in Cenarion Hold. Once you turn in The Calling she will give you another quest that you instantly turn in to claim your reward and receive your +25 NR legs!

After handing in this quest, grab some popcorn, sit back and be prepared to learn about the lore behind Silithus, Ahn'Qiraj, the Titans and the Old Gods, and the reason behind the night elf Arch Druid's stinking attitude.

Or you could just read the story here:
Geologist Larksbane says: I will do my best to translate and describe what I see.

It is history.. A history of Silithus... of Ahn'Qiraj... of Titans and Old Gods... I read from the prophecy of C'Thun as written by the Qiraji Prophet Skeram. A prophecy that portends a cataclysm...

In the time before time, when the world was still in its infancy, a battle between a Titan and a being of unimaginable evil and power raged on this very soil. The prophecy is unclear about whether or not the Titan was vanquished in this battle but it illustrates that a Titan fell. An Old God had also fallen - or so it was thought.

For millennia this being lay dormant beneath the world - biding its time. From its prison it waited for the exact moment at which to strike back at those that would see it harmed.

The land of eternal starlight, Kalimdor, was a nurturing mother to all of its creatures. The magic of the Well of Eternity permeated the land and empowered the multitude of flora and fauna that would make the world their home. From this magical ether were born the silithid. It was throught the silithid that the brooding Old God would reach and attempt to sunder the world that it once held in its unmerciful grasp.

The Old God would create avatars from the silithid in its own image. These avatars were to be known as Qiraji. Sentient and with purpose, the Qiraji would name their creator: C'Thun was born... For many thousands of years the Qiraji worked feverishly to build a force capable of laying waste to the world that would betray their god. The great fortress city of Ahn'Qiraj was created to house their growing armies and prepare for the coming of C'Thun.

This can't be right. An Old God could never be allowed to enter this world. The results would be... Oh dear!

Geologist Larksbane regains her composure.

Gelogist Larksbane says: There is more.

The moment that C'Thun had so patiently waited for had finally arrived. His children had spent thousands of years building an army capable of exacting revenge upon the whole of Kalimdor and now the prize was within their grasp.

The Titans had long since vacated this world. Only the night elves that once inhabited this area were here to defend. Oh my! The next passage is fascinating!

A mighty Qiraji known as General Rajaxx would command the initial incursion into Silithus. Only one would stand in his way: A night elf known as Staghelm. They refer to him as Khar'sis or 'hand of the earth' in the native Qiraji tongue.

Staghelm and his armies were clearly overwhelmed as the endless flow of Rajaxx's troops poured into Silithus. It would seem as if Staghelm, however, was more than just a nuisance to the Qiraji. Under Staghelm, the whole of the night elf armies had come together to defend Kalimdor, greatly slowing the Qiraji forces.

Unfortunately, the night elf defense was untenable and Rajaxx knew that they could not hold out much longer. Their tenacity, however, was causing great frustration to Rajaxx and causing even more frustration to his king. Wait, kings? Incredible...

Vek'nilash and Vek'lor, known as the Twin Emperors of Ahn'Qiraj, watched the war from the sanctuary of their temple. The clever brothers devised a plan to demoralize and divide Staghelm's forces.

Valstann Staghelm served as the right hand of Fandral. A proud and noble warrior, his dedication and adoration for his father unyielding... and the Twin Emperors sensed this as weakness. A weakness that could be exploited.

The Qiraji forces were commanded to fall back and hide the bulk of their numbers beneath the sands of the desert. A small attack was ordered upon Southwind Village while the front lines of Staghelm's army were kept occupied.

Valstann, eager to please his father, convinced Fandral to allow him to take a small battalion to the defense of Southwind. Surely with the tide of battle turning their way, no harm could come to his beloved child. The trap was missed. Valstann was capture by the hiding Qiraji and Southwind Village obliterated. Rajaxx himself would take the captive Valstann to the front lines of the battle where - in front of Staghelm and the night elf forces - he would brutally execute the young night elf.

The war continued but the will of the great leader was sapped. The whole of Silithus was soon engulfed by the silithid and their Qiraji hosts.

Poor man, this explains much.

The night elf army was pushed back through Un'Goro, the the borders of the Tanaris desert. Something in Un'Goro prevented the Qiraji from being able to take the land. I do not quite understand this word but I believe it to mean 'God Lands.' It is stated that they could not 'take the God Lands.'

Fascinating, this coincides with theories of Un'Goro being the home of the Titans when they inhabited Kalimdor. Perhaps Aman'thul himself watched over 'The God Lands.'

Hrm, curious... This ends abruptly. In Tanaris the Qiraji document facing a bronze dragon. There is much missing from this... More information must be found! Surely they are planning to invade Kalimdor once more!

Baristolth of the Shifting Sands shifts uncomfortably.

Baristolth of the Shifting Sands says: When the time is right, my lady. All will be clear when the time is right. The master stirs even now. Look to the skies for the Brood of Nozdormu have returned.

Bones are just south of Cenarion Hold along the road at 47, 54.

Quest now rewards 700 rep at level 70. Very easy to solo.

After you listen to the Geologist's loooooong story about the war, you will get your reward in the form of another quest with another 500 rep.

To get this quest, talk to the commander of the Cenarion town (he's in the one-floored, one-roomed building). He gives a quest to kill his wife in the Hive Regal. Before heading to Hive Regal with 2-5 people, go to Bronzebeard's Camp and get a second quest called Glyph Chasing. Kill the lady and get rubbings of the crystals in each hive. Turn them in and the second guy at the Bronzebeard Camp will give you a quest to get a brain from a bug in each Hive. Kill 3-10 bugs in each hive to get the brain and hand the quest in. Go back to the Bronzebeard camp and get a quest from the first guy. This quest orders you to walk back to the Cenarion town and talk to a npc. Talk to the npc and complete the quest. She will then give you the quest: "The Calling"

The Emissary looks quite cool (jackal-headed Egyptian god-type) and hits pretty hard, but he's nothing any organized 20-man raid group can't handle. (If you're a Pick-Up Raid, probably better to add in another 5 folks to cover the lack of coordination.)

He does moderate AoE that hits mildly hard, depending on your resist rates. (Not sure what school it was.) Otherwise, it's a simple tank fight. Keep the Main Tank up, don't pull aggro, and make sure the squishy ranged DPS doesn't take too much AoE damage.

He drops nothing but the quest item and some gold (which becomes a handful of silver when it gets divided up). Still, turning in the quest yields some decent gear after you listen to a long-winded speech about the Old Gods.

The hardest part about completing this is getting a raid together. The best way to do that is to tie in this quest with a raid on AQ20 or AQ40. "Hey, now that we've killed Ossirian, can we go do The Calling?" It's even better if you have a raid group taking down Royals.

The +25 nature resist pants are great for certain bosses in Ahn'Qiraj, such as Princess Huhuran and Buru.

Completing the quest and the immediate "click to get your treasure" follow-up quest currently (2.0.1) awards 750 Cenarion Hold reputation. It has been boosted to 250% of what it was, just as the reputation reward for turning in Twilight Texts has been boosted from 100 reputation to 250 reputation.

Confirmed. The bugs that will spawn upon calling the Emmisery are non-elite now. They do, however still come with 3 of them.
The Emissery is still shown as an Elite mob, but his damage and life has drasticly changed to make it duable for 1 - 2 players.
Just did it solo at lvl 66 hunter. Can probably also be done at level 60.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another mob boss that's been removed from the wowhead database for some weird reason.
Anyway, just did it solo on my lvl 66 protection warrior. Had to use all cooldowns (including dodge and armor trinkets),Shield Wall, healing pots, shield absorber, protection and strength potion and a cooking meal that increased stamina by 20.
Just barely made it, got like 200 hp left. I noticed that Devastate really helped in this battle. Get his armor, attack power and attack speed down, then spam all the skills that are up like crazy.

He's immune to fear, stuns, spellinterupts and silence, so don't waste time on using those.

Warrior rewards for this quest confirmed: http://classicdb.ch/?quest=8316

we did it with 40 people, but with good healing and aggro control, 20 people could do it
he regains health every time somebody dies. not a lot, but enough that we had him at 1% health on our second attempt and he didnt die because he went on an angry rampage and killed people so he regained health. i think its about 2-3% of his hp for every person that dies.

Edit:

We downed him last night and got both rewards for the turn in, plus a total of 300 Cenarion Circle Rep. And as stated previously, the key is to make sure the MT has aggro, and that there are at least two healers on the MT. He also has to be drained of mana. We wiped about 5 times before we downed him, mainly due to disorganziation. It was half a guild run, and half pick-ups, so a few of the pick-ups didn't want to listen. They attacked at the same time as the MT, and screwed things up, MT died and then the Emissary began walking all over us. Once the group let the MT get aggro, good healing rotation on the MT, he went down in about 3 or 4 minutes. We had over 30, but not everyone was level 60, nor had anyone been in MC, so we were in DM/Tier 0/worse than that gear. All in all a fun fight though.

Roman'khan will require 25-40 people to take down.&nbsp He has an AoE with insane range.&nbsp He can hit you for 3k, but this might be dependent on how much mana you have (not sure what the rule is for rogues and warriors).&nbsp He can also regen a little health, but I'm not sure what exactly enables him to do that, and if it's preventable.

Took him down at the late time of 2am. Tried with 20 initially, but several people were under 60 and we didn't have enough DPS so we wiped at ~70%

On our third try, I went in first (Tank) and all the other DPS stood back until his mana was gone, or very low, Warlocks and one hunter drained mana (Although I'm not sure if it was doing anything). He hits hard, I had about 3-4 healers on me and I have very solid pre-MC/ZG gear.

Quest reward for Warriors is the best pre-ZG boots in the game, boots from ZG are slightly better.

i'v just done this series, including into the maw of madness, up to the raid boss.
total for gold if you are lvl 60 is 52G assuming you sell the staff, 52G for about 3 hours work is pretty nice. not to mention if you get your guild to down the boss on their next run to AQ you'l get another 5G plus your imba NR legings.

as for the quest series itself, i did all of it with me a 60 hunter and a 60 mage and 60 paladin. the fight with natalia is hard for only 3, but purely because of her Fear and Mind Control, but with a mage we just sheeped the mind controlled member and it was fine.

Look out for another item while your going around, a note drops that you hand in at the encampment in the south, the reward is ~5G at 60 and a pick axe that sells for ~4G, so a nice little side quest if you get the drop. i got mine from the most northerly hive, name escapes me atm. dont know if it only drops in that hive or if it's a random zone drop.

hope this helps,

Can confirm the quest is now VERY easy to solo as a level 70. Just did it as a holy priest with (including potions) 912 spell damage and took him down in just under half a mana bar with the bare minimum of damage to myself. Absolutely no special tricks required... he still shows up as a ?? boss elite, but is more like a regular level 60 elite at the very most.

Nice easy questline if you're bored at 70 and feel like killing some time going back and completing those rep quests you didn't manage to do at the time!

You can down him with a 20man raid. Just make sure to have at least 1 hunter in each group with Aspect of the Wild turned on. Also use the druid-buff Gift of the Wild, just to get as much NR as possible for the AoE. Healers should only heal the tank, all other should use bandages. You should only get healed when you have 1st-aid debuff. If you do this all and let the tank hold his agro, he's easy. If you still whipe, just add a group(including a hunter). Btw, when you kill him, he'll only drop the quest item, and everyone can loot the item, so you have only to kill him once. If he desummons or get's killed by another raid(is possible) just abadon the quest and get it again, or let some1 else summon him, as you don't need the glyph to complete the quest. Good luck.

Posted this on my guildforum(I had placed all links in the forum, but they aren't listed here, you should find them out yourself). I was not sure about mage and warlock reward, but this looked the most logical:
The quests
- The chain starts with Dearest Natalia, a simple walk&talk quest. We've both done this first part, it's solo-able, you have to walk somewhere, talk to a lad and walk back. Not hard.
- From now on we group up. The second part is just the second part of the quest, Into The Maw of Madness. But, as the quest already says, you need to get another quest, called Glyph Chasing, from the Bronzebeard camp. We need to kill some insects and the wife of the commander, a lvl 62 elite priest. Would be handy to have a rogue/warrior here to interrupt her heals. We also need to get rubbings of the crystals in each hive.
- When turned in we'll get a quest from a second guy at the Bronzebeard camp. We need to get a brain from a bug in each Hive. Kill 3-10 bugs in each hive to get the brain and hand the quest in.
- When we are back at the Bronzebeard camp and turned in the quest we'll get a new quest from the first guy. We need to walk back to Cenarion Hold and talk to a npc over there for Unraveling the Mystery.
- After completed that quest we'll get the quest "The Calling". We need to kill a lvl ? elite 30-man raid boss, named Emissary Roman'khan. And yes, we are able to kill him, with a little trick with my bow Wink We'll(or I'll) pull him to Cenarion Hold and let him get killed by the guards. This should work. When it doesn't work we'll try to get a 30-man raid(could be done with 20 man they say), but I'm afraid we wont be able to get that much ppl together to do that... We can try to kill him with the raid that evening for AQ, but it'll be hard.

The Boss, Emissary Roman'khan
Roman'Khan has 3 attacks:

Melee:
Hits pretty hard to the main tank, but slow attack speed so easy to heal.

Sand Blast:
He occasionally blasts a single target for 2500-5000 Nature damage. Most targets will be dead instantly because of his third ability too, but the graveyard is very close. As long as it doesn't hit your MT, you should be fine. Keep your MT above 80% or you won't survive this one.

Sandwave:
This is an AOE ability with a HUGE range (over 100 yards in a circle around him). It hits the entire raid for 400-800 nature damage. He will cast this roughly every 10 seconds. Don't bother healing the raid, tell everyone to use bandages or run away to eat / drink.

I've readed somewhere else that the Sandwave hasn't got that big range if all melee are just at melee range. He will only drop the quest-item, nothing more, nothing less. We have to kill him only once as it is a shared drop(not like onyxia's head or heart of hakkar).

Rewards
Hunter: (Quest #8377) (Quest #8382) (Quest #8378) (Quest #8380) (Quest #8316) (Quest #8379) and Warlock: (Quest #8381)

The nature AOE doesn't affect people who are right near him, like in melee range. So when the tank runs in, everyone else should also run in and cast and heal from there. You make take occasional damage, but not nearly as much as if you were at range.

His AoE is nature, and hits full on for 600. From what I saw his normal hit will go from 1500-2000 with mediocre lvl 60 gear.
