The Tower of Althalaxx

Bring Ilkrud Magthrull's Tome to Delgren the Purifier at Maestra's Post.
Ilkrud Magthrull's Tome

Description

Ilkrud Magthrull. Yes, I have knowledge of him. He is a powerful orc warlock that makes his residence at the Fire Scar Shrine, a place of great evil in southwestern Ashenvale.

He had been little more than an annoyance until now, and I had not dealt with him, but it seems that his time has come.

As a Hunter you can use your pet to tank him and the voidwalkers he summons, while keeping his succubus in a Freezing Trap.

As a Priest you can fear him and his succubus when he starts summoning. Use Power Word: Shield if you need to heal.

As a Mage you can Polymorph him, kill his succubus and Counterspell his summoning if needed.

As a Warlock you can use your Voidwalker to tank them, Sacrifice him before he dies, and finish Ilkrud quickly. If you're level 28 you can also Banish his succubus but you probably won't need it.

As a Warrior you can use Shield Bash to interrupt his casting(if it works) or use Intimidating Shout after he summons, since chances are he'll just start casting again after it wears off if you interrupted him with it.

As a Rogue you can Sap him and kill his succubus, use Gouge or Kick to interrupt his summonning and Evasion if you can't kill him before he summons. After you kill him you can just Vanish.

As a Paladin you can interrupt him with Hammer of Justice. You can also use Blessing of Protection and heal if you need to.

As a Druid you can use Bash and Feral Charge to interrupt him. A druid on this level wouldn't be able to heal with anything other than Rejuvenation unless talented with Nature's Focus.

Edit: I remember that back when I posted this, this guy was actually a challenge for me. I wonder whether I was (more of) a noob or the game was actually tougher. [/nostalgia]

It was silly to think my 23 Druid could solo this but after 2 days of asking for help unsuccessfully, I thought I'd stealth in and take a look. Well, it only cost 2 potions, a rez penalty and a repair bill, I guess.

The 23 and 24 demons and felhounds in the area are no problem except that the demons have a stun spell that stops a druid's heal spell (don't know about other casters) and of course they're throwing fire as well, a problem for us lesser-armor guys, but they are surmountable. You can pull everyone around Ilkrud (Ill Crud well-named) except for his succubus of course.

Druids, remember never to root fire-throwers they could care less since they're not going to chase you anyway, merely stand there and throw fire through trees, rocks, mountains and across the sea. Star then Faerie and Moon while charging bear when you get to him and ooops! Where did all those voidwalkers come from? The succubus is a 24 and the voidwalkers are 17s but Old Crud did the most damage with the flamethrower act. Oh well, nice to see my old buddy the Spirit Healer. Why is she never surprised to see me?

The graveyard is about 11 miles from Fire Scar, so I passed on the wisp trip. Fire Scar, by the way, is South of the Shrine of Aessina, but a better way to approach it (unless you're a mountain climber) is from Astranaar it's South Southwest of the town. Good luck. I'll probably come back in another five levels (if I'm on this continent) but I will never understand why some of these chain quests go from one level to another and then skip about four or five. What's the point of that?

....As Delgren skipped giving me this part. I even abandoned the next part and came back. (Even tried exiting the game and talking to Delgren again.) Still a no go and I am awaiting a reply from a GM. Would have been nice to have a look at that Staff of the Purifier. Oh, well...

Well, looks like for some reason this part shows up as completed on my character... ?wtf? I almost think that the GM didn't believe me when I said I never did this part... that is until I mentioned how the location where Ilkrud is located (according to the coords posted earlier) is still unexplored on my map. They said that they will be investigating it immediately to see what exactly happened so hopefully it will be fixed by the time I take my alt to do it. )

BTW, this is on Whisperwind. Maybe it is bugged on some servers and not on others?

This guy is level 24 with (1) level 24 minion and (1) level 17 minion with plenty of other level 24 demons about too.

You'll find him around 24,60 - just behind the mountains south of the Shrine of Aessina. There will be a pass that will take you into the mountain where he is.

be careful with this guy he looks easy. He starts with a succubus and casts two guardian void walkers. Take him out fast. I focused on pets 1st(dumb) and he summoned two more walkers for a total of 1 succubus and 4 void walkers. that's nothing to laugh at...

I followed the coords they're accurate. The key to not dying is first pull the mobs around him one by one and not aggro him. Then when its just him and his succubus attack him first and kill him as fast as possible because he will summon more demons if you kill his succubus.

I did this on my lvl 25 druid. First I killed his adds in caster form one at a time. Then I sleathed in cat form up behind him and caught him off guard and killed him asap then killed his suc. Looted and sleathed out.

I was a lvl 25 druid

Plan of attack=

Pull the 2 demon dogs with wrath, once you killed off both of them one by one

Cast Starfire on the orc and as it hits run like a grand hero towwards him while casting faire fire then just before you collide bear form.
Hopefully youll have enough rage to stun him and therefore he wont cast the spell to summon the other guys.
Then its a matter of mauling him to death...then slap his mnion and your done!
No dieing no returning.
Grab the tome and leave..A HERO!

I did this with my 22 rogue and it was easy. I went in from the west and killed all the Felguards and Felhounds one by one. When I got to the top of the hill where Ilkrud is, I was able to pull one of the Felhounds, but couldn't pull the other without agroing the rest of the mobs too. No problem.

Stealth in and Ambush Ilkrud. Ignore the succubus and the Felhound. Use Evasion as well. I couldn't get Kick to stop him from summoning the Void Walkers, but it could be because I just missed.

I managed to drop Ilkrud with around half my HP left. Loot him and hightail it out of there. Done.

It took me a very long time to find the guy. I read all the comments and looked at the coordinates and couldn't seem to find him. When I fianally did that little run from West to East instead of East to West as I had been doing it, I noticed a part of the alley I hadn't been to.

As you kill all the demons (no matter what direction you are coming from) and go up the alley, on your mini-map you will see a red slab like thing that is supposed to be a little arch. Head towards it and you will see the orc's little hide away. If you're patient, you can pick off the Felhunters pretty easily and after that, just go straight for Ilkrud first and he drops the tome when he dies. It's pretty easy to sneak out after you've killed him. He is around the 25,60 area. Hope this helps any other people that got loast as bad as I did. I feel like an ass. -_-

All i did is this.. i cleared the mobs on the hill (leading to him) then i killed the Felhunters beside him {make sure not to pull boss if u do vanish}, after that i sapped the boss {lasts 25seconds} and killed his succubus at this time, after this i downed the boss and looted him!

Head towards the fire shire and bear to the right once you are inside.&nbsp On your mini-map there will be a redish looking&nbsp bar, that is actually the entrance to where he is.&nbsp He is fairly powerful and has a minion with him and about 5 demons lvl 23 or so.&nbsp You can take out one or two of the demons without the rest aggroing on you but that's about it.&nbsp STRONGLY recommend a group of 3-4 lvl 22-26 or a lvl 35+ person with you.&nbsp Did it myself (me lvl 19) my friend lvl 19 and a guildmember lvl 37.&nbsp

I soloed this quest as a 22 druid. Fairly easily if i may add. Stealthed in as cat. Killed everyone around him 1 by 1. Threw a few spells at boss (weaken armor, moonfire), and turned in bear and continued to attack him. Used demoralizing roar, i think its called?, to weaken minions. Killed him, and almost grabbed loot before i died. Rezed and grabbed! i agree that this is a hard quest however, but it is possible for a 22...druid at least. Good Luck!

I just did this quest as a 22 Hunter. The area to get to him is mostly level 22 - 24 demons. The area to get to him is shaped like a "U". You can come in either end of this but the path up the hill to him is at the bottom of the "U". The patrols are singles with an occasional felhound and felguard pair. I just used a freeze trap on the pairs with my pet on passive and pulling both to me and freezing one. Once you start up the short hill path, there is a felguard at the top. He is not linked to anything and you can pull him down the path safely. Go to the top of the path and look at the camp area where you will find the boss in the middle and his succubus next to him. In front of him on each side is a felhound (fellslayer is the name I think). They are NOT linked to anything. Wait until each one paths as far from the boss and just range pull each one back near the top of the path you just came up. Now you are faced with just the boss warlock and the succubus. I laid a freeze trap at my feet, hunter's mark on the boss, and sent my pet onto the Succubus next to the boss. I poured everything I had onto the boss and killed him as he summoned 2 voidwalkers. The succubus was at half health and so was my pet so I focused fire on her as 1 of the voidwalkers hit the freeze trap. The voidwalkers do very little damage so I ingnored the remaining one until the succubus was dead. The pet immediately attacked the voidwalker on me and I wing clipped it and ran to range. We killed it and the one just breaking out of the trap. My pet was at half health and so was I. There was no need to bandage or use a pot for me during the fight. I realize that every class fights differently, this is just a post to let you know what to expect when you do it. Good luck and stay safe.

Did this solo as a lvl 23 rogue. Took out the surrounding mobs, sapped the Succubus and took out Ilkrud by: Sap, (kill succubus), backstab, gouge, backstab, sinister strike x3, eviscerate. It worked, but I was also well-fed (Sta and Spirit +25% of lvl) and buffed with a strength scroll. Not sure if I could have done it without the buffs.

Got 1950 xp and 110 Rep with Darnassus for it. I took the Staff and DE it got two Greater Magic Essences.

They need to stop mislabeling the quest start locations. I went to Wetlands and Duskwood for a few days to get my level up and came back and thought this is in Darkshore because it's labeled as the quest start is in Darkshore.

Just soloed this as a 22 hunter. Made my way up to his camp. Took out the surrounding mobs so it was just him and his helper dealy...didn't know about the voidwalkers that pop later on, but it didn't really affect my plan.

Sent in Matty (my pet) to attack the orc whatshisface and just pounded him with arrows ignoring the damage they were both dealing to Matty (I'm sorry Matty _). Once Ilkrud was down to a sliver of life (Matty was still alive at that point!), the voidwalkers popped but I quickly defeated him, looted, unequipped, and took the death for a quick trip back to town!

As a hunter this was simple, though I was level 23 at the time so maybe that made it seem easy. Just pull the mobs, no more than 2 at a time, drop a freezing trap if a 3rd joins in. I found a named silver elite, a huge demon who dropped nice armbands and a 10slot bag. Froze the target's succubus and he died so fast it wasn't a challenge, getting to him was harder than killing him.

The quest is labeled Darkshore because that's where the chain starts, but I think you can start partway thru, unlike some chains.

As far as the reward, vendor trash the staff unless you want the good dps. The purification it offers only has 3 charges which is ridiculous, but it does vend for 26 silver and that's much better than the ring.

Fire Scar Shrine is Due South of Maestras Post almost Due West of The Ruins of Stardust. SW of Astranaar.

Ilkrud Magethrull is easy to find just follow the area perimeter to the right and you will find his small camp.

I solo'd this with my 25 Hunter stuck my pet on his pet and focused on killing him. Then ran from this three pets. Worked out well.

Enter the Fire Scar shrine from the eastern side of it. (28,60)

Follow that just around the turn and just past the Fallen Red Pillar. (25,63)

Turn Right and Go up the slight hill to Magethrul (25,60)

First it is just him(lvl 24) and his Succubus (lvl 24) then he summons 2 Voidwalkers (lvl 17 each).

I dunno exactly what the hype on this quest is - it seems fine to me. I solo'd it with my lv25 Hunter, sent my pet in to take out the Succubus, then took him out myself (I killed him before he was even able to call on his voidwalkers).

Easy to find too. Just keep your eyes high, and you'll find him right smack in the middle of the shrine, next to his little hut.

The standard WoW maps are misleading, as the text "Fire Scar Shrine" makes it look like the shrine is North and/or east of the "Ruins of Stardust". I searched everywhere North of Stardust all the way over to Mystral Lake and down to the Talondeep path and could not find it. I noticed one of the posters belos said it is WEST of the "Ruins of Stardust", so I will look there tonight. Don't go by the map on this one.

I don't believe it is bugged. A group of myself and 3 other guildies did this quest on 12/8 and it worked just fine. Took us 2 tries to take out the baddie, since the first time we just rushed in and he spawned 2-3 void walkers in addition to the succubus that is his pet. That and random adds got us wiped the first time. Second time we took out the adds first, then focused all our energy on him. He went down quick (he is wearing cloth) and then all we had to do was mop up the pets.

BTW, the staff is awesome at my level (20), and I had to train up the skill to use it, but it is sweet.
