After reading through this thread it seems like there are a lot of different outcomes for this one so here is mine. I was able to do this solo as a 35 mage but not on the first attempt. My nova didn't hold them and after a short fight I died. Jaina and Tervosh showed up immediately afterwards, but nothing happened. It's a little tough to chat with Tervosh if I'm dead I guess, so I went and rezzed but by the time I got back, the camp was empty and all of the npc's were gone. So next I ran back to town to see Tervosh in Jaina's tower to try and pick this up again. but he gave me a strange message like "Hopefully, you didn't mind our assistance, but we could not allow Private Hendel to escape" which is how the quest should end, but there were no further messages beyond that. That seemed bizarre to me, so I abandoned the quest and ran back out to Hendel's camp and sure enough, there he was with a big yellow exclamation point over his head. However, his two guard buddies had not respawned for some reason. Without them, I gave Hendel a right, sound beating and exacted my revenge for killing me the first time. After that, the quest finished normally. I don't know if this scenario is repeatable or not, but dying once and reacquiring the quest made it very easy.

Finished this long thread last night with my 39 rogue. Here is my steps:

1. Talk to Commander Samaul in Theramore. I can't remember where he is, but he will appear as a yellow dot on the minimap.

2. Go to Sentry Point. If you head out west from Theramore, sentry point is the first tower on the left side of the road. It is the FIRST tower outside Theramore, there is no way you'll miss it. You'll have to ENTER the tower so the quest will show 'complete'. Talk to the guy with yellow question mark&nbsp (can't remember his name) and you'll get the next part.

3. Keep going west ON the road. I think it's a good 3-5 min run. Then you'll see the 2nd tower on the left side of the road. There is a small river near the tower. Across from the river, Private Hendel is standing there. A yellow dot of Hendel will appear on the minimap.

4. Talk to Hendel and PREPARE to fight. Like all missing diplomat quests, you'll fight Hendel and 2 guards, all 34-36. I got my HP smacked to half and realize there is no way I can survive this nasty fight. Rogue hates group fights! So what I did was to run across that little river to the tower where alliance guards are positioned. Only Hendel chased me (his 2 guards didn't come after me), with the help of a tower guard, I take down Hendel easily. When Hendel's HP reaches 30%, he will drop the fight and re-appear as green. Just like all previous fights in missing diplomat thread.

5. I am a little uncertain about what happened after, but I think my memory is correct. After Hendel re-appear as friendly, the quest should be updated to 'complete'. There will appear 3 people standing next to Hendel, one of who has a yellow question mark on top of his head.

6. Be aware, Hendel's guards are still in fighting mode! It will take a little longer for them to appear friendly.

7. After Hendel's guards appear friendly, I talked to the guy with yellow question mark. He is either the end of missing diplomat or he asked me to talked to another one of these 3 guys. But you should be able to finish missing diplomat thread at that spot. No more running around needed.

For a lv39, I got 7k xp from this process. Not too bad. The only problem is that I am heading west to Barrens with a pvp flag on me. :) I am on a pve server. But it was late at night and luckly no horde ambushes me. pvp flag will disappear after probably 5 min.

Private hendel has two bodyguards near him, if you start the quest with them being there they will attack you as well, so drag a mob to the guards before the quest and they will be focused on killing the monster. Then you start the quest and you'll only have to deal with 1 person. Otherwise you'll have to fight 3 level 35/36's and thats difficult for the lower level people

It looks to me like the bugs have been fixed in this quest.&nbsp I tried to meet the wizard in town, but he had a silver ? mark, so I went to the first tower and then he talked to me.

You then head just north of the 2nd tower and kill Hendley.&nbsp Afterward, the wizard appears with a woman.&nbsp Talk to them both and you will receive Jaina's signet ring- +3 strength, +7 stamina

If you fail to fight Private Hendel you will fail the quest. Then you have to abandon the quest. Now you are able to start it again by talking to Private Hendel at the tents. He will respawn after 5-10 minutes if you die, so just wait at the tents until you can start the quest again!

I'd follow the advice above and drag him to the tower to get some help with the fighting. When he runs back to the tents you have to follow, or else you will not complete the quest.

okay, if the Lady Proudmoore teleports herself away before you can get the reward and XP, simply go to theramore isle, in the main building, up the swirly stairs until you find the lady. then you can complete the quest =)

Actually you can complete this quest without fighting Hendel at all. Before you talk to Hendel move to the eastern tip of the pier he's on - where the curved steps go down to the water. Start the coversation, and as soon as you accept the quest back straight up to the curving steps. His guards will fight him, and when he's depleted the other characters appear on the hill. I did this as a lvl 30 rogue without striking a blow or suffering one HP of damage.

Tis mission is not as hard as it seems. You will fight Hendel and two guards. Just concentrate on Hendel until he's nearing defeat. Jaina Proudmoore will show up with her cavalry [not that she needs it, being level 500]. Hendel will beg for mercy, and you'll get some sweet experience and a decent ring. This is the end of that long chain of quests. Congratulations.

Just like to confirm that if you fail the last part of the quest then all you need to do is abandon the quest and wait around for the guy to respawn.&nbsp Then you can talk to him again and he'll attack just like before.

Talk to Private Hendel so that he starts the quest where you must defeat him.

Run like hell to the tower thats to the north. Attack the two buddies of Hendel on the way so they will follow you all the way. Hendel should turn back right as you get to the friendly guards

Get the friendly guards to attack and get agro on Hendel's two guards. Just stand there taking hits until they do. When they get agro, run back to Hendel.

Before you reach Hendel, open up your quest log and abandon the quest. Make sure you do it while his two buddies are still out of the way.

Re-start the quest by talking to Hendel again. If you do this before his two guards have returned and reset themselves, they will be friendly and will help you when Hendel turns agro.

I finsihed this chain quest entirely as a level 60 just for the rep. there was plenty of rep to be given out with various factions along the way but the last part of the chain quest (This part) gave 500 Rep with all alliance factions. Totally sweet!

I went to fight Hendal, got the quest, the guards attacked and I ran to the tower to get the alliance guards to help me kill them which they did, then I went to go kill Hendal and he was a friendly target again... but it doesn't say I failed.&nbsp The quest still says to subdue him, but I can't attack him.&nbsp Has anyone actually abandoned this quest and been able to pick it back up really.&nbsp I have tried it with another quest and I never did get it back so I am very skeptical that I will be able to get this one back if abandoned.&nbsp There are other comments by people who were not able to get it back again, so how do you do this?

lol this q its soooo easy.. i did it at 29 solo... :P
you just have to pull the guards to the tower and ally guards will do the job, if the guy you need to kill becomes green again just abandom quest and talk with him again, he will give you the Q again... After that, pull him to the sentry post and ally guards will kill him again...

Talk to Hendel, hit him one and run across the stream to the tower next to him. It's closer than the road suggests. He follows and the guards there will kick him around for you until he's nearly dead and runs back to his post. Follow him and Proudmoore and the others show up to capure him. I was able to do this quest at a much lower level than normal thanks to the help of the tower guards.

I was sorting through my quest log trying to thin it down and I came across the quest in this series that sent me to Theramore. I hopped a ship from Wetlands, talked to some people here and there, and before I knew it I was standing in front of Hendel getting ready to fight.

First attempt didn't go so well (32 Hunter). I got a bit cocky and didn't pay attention to positioning. When the fight started, Hendel was in front of me and his two bodyguards were directly behind me. Not only that, but I forgot to put Aspect of the Hawk up getting smacked around with AotC active really sucks when you need to adjust position in a hurry.

Needless to say, I got a quick trip to the nearest graveyard for my efforts. I was tempted to put off trying again for a few more levels, but I decided to give it another shot. I wisped my way to my corpse, resurrected and called my pet. It took a few minutes for Hendel to respawn. This time, I made sure both Hendel and his bodyguards were in front of me (I was actually standing in the water off the little pier). Dropped a Freeze Trap a few steps in front of Hendel and then activated the quest. The only reason I survived was because of the Freeze Trap. Hendel went aggro, I started moving back while I put my pet on him and as soon as I was far enough away I started shooting at him with everything I had (including Rapid Shot). The guards still came after me but my pig had Hendel occupied. By the time Lady Proudmoore showed up, I had already used a healing potion and was down to literally < 50 HP, but the bodyguards disengaged and I was able to complete the quest.

Nice rewards, too. From the time I arrived in Theramore to the time I had collected my reward from Lady Proudmoore, I had racked up 9k exp, and the only thing I fought the whole time was Hendel :D

If you can kite him over to the nearby tower then the guards there will also help you kill him. I highly recommend you do this if your level is a little low for this quest. I have successfully completed this quest at around L32.

I fought and got him to bow to me, only problem is his guards killed me as the archmage showed up their did their whole speech bout if you need us come to the tower thats where we will be. Which tower is this and will i be able to complete the quest there? In my quest log it shows completed so that has to be a good thing but now i just gonna find where to go since from reading here normally you would be able to just turn in the quest right there to the arch but they are gone while i had to goto my body anyhelp would be good thanks

Ok, I died to Hendel before Proudmoore showed up. Went back to find he was dead. Waited for respawn and no quest marker for him when he did.

So I went back to the tower and talked to the archmage. He said: "Hope you dont' mind the assistance, but we couldnt' have Hendel get away".

So I can't restart the part to kill hendel? The archmage has a greyed out question mark over him, but he won't give me the chance to kill him again...Anyone know what I should do?

And yes, there was no ring, or EXP gained from the quest, but it is gone from my quest book... :/

i got the funniest bug, i kited the 3 to the nearby guard tower and the guards helped me to fight them, but before they were dead they started to run and dissapeared, after i noticed that the guys who show up after quest complete were there and i was able to dinish the quest and get the rewards without actually killing the missing diplomat :)

I had a very weird glitch on this fight... I accepted the quest and the two guards started attacking me while Private Hendel stayed on the pier, i guess the Private was stuck on something, but after i killed both guards, hendel was still red, but i couldn't attack him. I waited a minute or two and then Hendel turned green again so i couldn't complete the quest. So i abandoned it, walked away and did some other quests, came back, accepted it again because the exclamation point was back over his head, and the fight was fine the second time.

Jaina's Signet Ring:

Plus a bit over 1g, I think around 1g 30s. Not bad for a pretty easy quest, a bunch of HP hits for talking to people towards the end too.

I was able to do this as a 31 Hunter. Stand on the end of the dock, accept Hendel's quest and run to the guards in the tower. Make sure you hit him first. Run all the way inside the tower, or they will still beat on you. When Hendel gets below half or so, he greens and runs off. I thought something happened. Ran back to the tent and saw three people standing there. I thought I would group with them and try again, but after I asked the question, I realized they were Proudmore, Archmage, and Pained. Felt pretty stupid asking computer generations if they wanted to group... heh heh heh.

I was also able to solo this, but at level 34, with my druid. I didn't get any help from the guards at the tower, but if you can't heal, it might be significantly more difficult. (Bring potions!)

As was mentioned, focus your attacks on Hendel and throw everything you have at getting his health down. Jaina will show up with 2 others and the guards will disappear while Hendel wimps out.

After doing this quest, talking to Jaina gives the following text:

Hendel is in our custody now, <name>, thanks to you.

Although the questioning goes slowly, I assure you he will tell us everything he knows.

For now, please be patient. I will contact you immediately if we have need of your assistance.

Until then, please enjoy Theremore and I invite you to stay as long as you like within our city's walls as a friend of the alliance.

I'm now level 40 - does this lead to anything? A lot of the quests in Theramore have a very unfinished feel to them. As if they originally didn't have time to finish things, and then never bothered to fix things.
