The Writhing Deep

Now that Raschal's last known whereabouts have been discovered, continue your search for him or his remains in the Writhing Deep. According to the note, it is located to the south of the Woodpaw gnoll camps.
Provided Item:
Undelivered Parcel

Description

Inside the backpacks are two items: the first is a parcel of goods that was bound for Thalanaar, and the second is a note hastily penned to an unknown reader.

The note tells of discovering insidious bug-like creatures south of the gnoll camps in a place called the Writhing Deep. The author felt the need to investigate it personally, as though it was a serious threat to all of Feralas. The note is signed, "Raschal of Feathermoon".

It would seem that you have located where Raschal ultimately went.

Spiral entrance is at 73, 63. Go to the bottom of the spiral, point yourself southwest and go in that cave. Stay to the right till you come to a room with 3 bugs and a Zukk'ash Pod in the middle. You'll have to attack the pod to set him free.

First of all, thanks for all the helpful directions.&nbsp Figured I'd add some pictures to help show where I found this:

Shows the area where the cave is:

Make a right into the first cave you come to as you spiral down.

The red dot is the entrance of the cave, and the blue dot is where I found the pod:

What a mess, so little help given over so many posts.

Completing this quest is very simple and you can solo this quest easily.:

Go to the Writhing Deep (roughly 75,60, SW of Camp Mojache).

Enter the most South Western cave (thanks to a previous poster), this cave has two tunnels which lead to to main chambers the whole cave is pretty small. The mobs are no challenge for the level of quest and you can solo them all.

The coccoon is at 73,61, in the centre of the round chamber, click on it to open (you will see an attacking animation). They guy will come out and will tell you he will stealth his way back. Congrats you've done it.

3050 XP and an "increase" in Darnassus reputation at level 47. This leads to another quest, "Escaping the Hive". That's the quest where you escort the NPC from the insect hive - for me, like for many others, it was broken - no NPC appeared.

The hive is at 74,62 according to cosmo's. You spiral down into the hive and enter the very first entrance you come to. The one at the top of the spiral. When your inside you will be at a Y turn right. Follow the path down till you come to another Y turn left the pod will be just ahead. Beware there is a tunneler and a stinger there. you will need to kill these ones then in the area with the pod are 3 level 45 tunnelers. I found it easier to pull these one a time. I did this as a level 45 hunter solo it was hard but not impossible.

Entrance to the Writhing Deep:
73,63
It is a big bug-base with a spiraling path.

Take the spiral path all the way to the VERY bottom.&nbsp At the bottom there are two caves, one on the northeast, the other on the southwest.

Enter via the Southwest Cave.

A short distance ahead the tunnel forks.

Go RIGHT.

It's the big squishy thing in the center of the room.&nbsp Kill the bugs, free the elf, he'll vanish, then Heartstone out.

The quest is NOT bugged.

A GM said, and I quote, that the quest is NOT bugged, but that it is just very intuitivly unclear.&nbsp Very poorly explained.&nbsp As such, he was unable to clear alot about it.&nbsp However, by trying this quest for over 4 hours.&nbsp Reading all kinds of reports on it, I am very, very likly to assume this.

The cocoon is either where it's supposed to be, or it's not.&nbsp That is, 73,63, I believe.&nbsp I have not seen the location for myself, but anyone who's completed it says that 73,63 is where the cocoon will be.&nbsp However, the quest is some kind of escort quest (also mentioned in the forums about it).&nbsp

This escort quest can only be done by ONE person on the ENTIRE server at ANY time.&nbsp This is directly from the text of the GM.&nbsp These would corroborate why, when the server is just reset, that it has worked for some people.&nbsp

For instance on Bloodscalp, some newb has left the quest open for 2 days+ now.&nbsp So I just bought a 3g bag, and ground the exp.

Good luck if they ever fix it.

P.S.

"They are working dilligently to express the wording of the quest in a better language so it appears clearer, and is able to be completed more often."

There is a HUGE BUG (no pun intended) with this quest.

If someone completes the quest before you, but doesn't go turn it in in feathermoon, then when you click on the cacoon to release npc, you will get the escort quest, but nothing else happens.

The npc will not spawn until the person ahead of you turns in the quest. Potentially preventing anyone for ever completing this quest in the future..... that is the case right now on Dragonblight >_<

*edit* I found the cacoon in the western cave, just in a chamber to the right of the bottom of the spiral stairs. However I'm told it spawns in different places within different caves (can anyone confirm?), so you'll probably have to do some searching.

I just finished the quest on Draka server about ten minutes ago. However, I can't give EXACT details since not only did WoW crash out just as I was about to get to the boat dock, but I got a very large BSOD when I tried to run it again while writing this post last time. >.< What I can remember is that this quest is NO LONGER AN ESCORT QUEST! When you find the coccoon, you attack it until Raschal pops out, looking kinda ill. You then accept the new quest, called "Freed From the Hive" (look it up, it has a listing now), where he thanks you for finding him and tells you that he'll stealth back on his own. He disappears at this point and you get a quest completion notification. Now you can happily run back to Feathermoon and let Ginro know that Raschal is safe and sound, and get lots of XP and faction. Good times. Thank you Blizzard for fixing this poor quest!

I just soloed this today 5-5-05. its another escort quest, the Loc was 73,63 go right down the bottom, the cave entrance on southside ie behind you when u reach bottom take the right branch to a large room where the pod is, i ve found that by not looting bodies saved precious time, dont no if it slows respawn time but doin solo saves a few fights it the way is clear at least til u start climbing out,i failed 1st time when i got out as one of the final wasps ran away which seems to be set action cos it did so 2nd try also but only this wasp runs and i lost the courier chasisng it down so better to let it come back and dont lose sight of the courier, anyways hope this is of assistance as noone seems to have had success on the posts. ps i m 47 hunter and was tricky to do alone but dont waste time going in and out oh yes BTW i receive 10000XPby the time its handed in and a nice blade so i felt it was a&nbsp valuable quest mwwmohhahah

Of the two dens, it is the south-western one. The picture posted is of the correct location and object. The mini-map is a good indication.

On Eonar server I camped out the night before like suggested and logged back in after the server maintenance/restart.

The cocoon was then interactable, and I was able to complete the quest and then start the next one letting the guy out of the cocoon to escort him.

The escort began after I talked to him. There were no extra mobs to worry about - just the lvl 45 ones that are usually there. It's a very short trip going just outside the den on the south west side of it. I completed it without failure.

Don't know if this will prevent anyone else from doing the quest until the next server restart.

Solo'ed as a Lvl 56 Rogue, without too much trouble despite the lag.

The comment posted by christiei is excellent so that there is little to be added. So make sure you read that comment first. I just gonna add a few small things.

1. There are indeed 2 insect nest sites. I am talking about sites, not caves. You want the southwest site of these 2. The correct site has a spiral ramp. If you enter the cave without spiral ramp, then it's the wrong site.

2. There are 3 caves in the site. One in the middle of ramp and 2 at the bottom of the ramp. You'll need to get to the bottom. My advise is to enter one cave and see if the map of the cave looks like the picture posted by christiei.

Like people above mentioned, this is no longer an escort quest. But it takes some time to free Rashal so "hit and run" strategy will not work. But most spiders in the cave can be single pulled so it's really not a problem.&nbsp &nbsp

As of February 4, 2007, they have fixed this quest.&nbsp You NO LONGER have to escort anyone, as soon as you click on the pod, he will appear, give you a small speech, then disappear.&nbsp What would happen before is when people failed the quest, because of the escort part of the quest, the quest would bug.&nbsp

They've worked around this by making the NPC "stealth" his way out.&nbsp Enjoy. =)

To help with picking the right cave, once you're at the bottom of the spiral, facing the opposite wall, you will have a cave on your right, and two caves (one on top of another) on your left. Take the left BOTTOM cave of course staying to your right as Nifty said. Don't go too fast, there are a couple mobs along the tunnel as you go. Don't run into the cave as soon as you see the pod, there is a bug on either side of the entrance. Move to one side and take that bug first, then go for the others one at a time. Done without heals on a 48 feral druid, I only killed the mobs on the way and the two on either side of the pod, I didn't have to go after the third. The mobs do dodge and parry a lot so it's best if you are at least level 46, in case the patrolling bug aggros. Don't worry about Raschal, once he is out of the pod he *stealths* on his own, stay next to him until you get the *complete* message on your screen. Then you can either stealth/prowl out or fight more insects if they've respawned.

The quest isnt bugged anymore, but i know that on a time it was ... But it has been worked out i see ... U gotta look for 2 "bug-Caves" ... And the big one to the South-west on the map is the one that u gotta go to if u want to get the right one ... When u go down u just take the first way into the cave ... and turn right ... :) And keeps on going ... Then u'll see a Cocoon ... Witch should be click able ... U right click on it to attack it ... And dont interfeer when it happens ...

When u stops the attacking u get ur quest completed and u can get a new one that say that u gotta take it, and if u got others in ur party ... then they can get it aswell ... But ofcoz they gotta be a the same step as u ... So when u take it a guy comes and "fades" and u've completed it ... Easy is that ...

I my self had some problems with finding the Cocoon ... But finaly found it ... :)

I hope that this can help u guys with finding the Cocoon ... The Cave entrence is 73,63 or close ... :)

Good Luck

With patch 1.9 comes an unbugged Writhing Deeps quest.

Simply find the cacoon, clear the room, right click on it to free the fellow, he'll inform you he can stealth out on his own (no need to do another stupid escort quest) and boom. Quest completed.

Solo'ed as a level 47 Druid but could have done it much sooner.

Any rogues or druids should make pie of this quest.

All above coords and business are correct. Good luck.

I just did this quest with patch 1.92 with a lvl 51 mage and a lvl 49 hunter. The hunter had trueshot aura, so this hunter must of had at least 30 points in the markmenship talent tree. I was a lvl 44 hunter with all of my talents except for two three put into the beast mastery talent tree. It was REAL easy between the three of us, since the hard part was getting to the caccon. It actually wasn't that hard, although the monsters do tend to respawn pretty quickly. I was able to kill 6 of them on my own before they started to respawn. This quest wasn't bugged for me, but then, I did this quest within 36 hours of the maintenence. The general enterance to this place is at 73,63.

This quest chain is, by far, the simplest one for a rogue. All you have to do is basically stealth around.

When you get the Writhing Deep part just go to 73,63 (the South-Western hive), go in the bottom entrance (SW again, I think) and keep going till you reach a room with a pod. You just kill those 3 (you can 1-by-1 em as a 44 rogue), click the pod, he says he'll stealth out. You get 3k exp for that. Then you go back to FMS, get 4k. That guy sends you to a guy 200 feet away from him, 6k exp. He sends you to Darnassus, 310 exp and a Grey Q-mark at lvl 45.

Enjoy, easiest 10k exp I ever made :)

PS: Distract the stinglashes at all times and go past them, do NOT fight them. They hurt :(

i just completed this quest.&nbsp there was one minor bug:&nbsp after i checked the bag in the preceding chain of quests, the overall quest completely disappeared from my quest log.&nbsp after going back and checking the bags again and accepting the quest, i was able to complete this with no problem.

they've probably changed it somewhat.&nbsp it is no longer an escort quest.&nbsp after you hack through the coccoon, the elf thanks you and then says he's stealthing out...&nbsp and that's it...&nbsp report back to Feathermoon for a lot of bonus experience.

i'm a lvl 49 hunter and had to use feign death a couple of times because of my lack of patience.&nbsp i could easily handle two of the insects at a time and struggled a little with three.&nbsp four and it was trouble--

The above quests were helpful but after dying twice I thought I'd add a note.&nbsp First, before you go make Feathermoon Stronghold your home.&nbsp

My lvl 46 hunter with pet got in the right cave and found the pod with no problem, however it was protected by 3 tunnelers and a roving wasp that always showed up at just the wrong time, making it difficult to mend or rez either me or the pet.&nbsp 3rd try I rezzed in the cave almost to the pod, waited for the flying thing to go back to the cave entrance and then rezzed pet, who has "prowl" mode so can hide, and I shadowmelded while healing.&nbsp We took out tunnelers one by one, THEN I started beating on the pod.&nbsp

If you try to beat on the pod while the beasts are alive you will be interrupted continually, so the pod doesn't activate.&nbsp If the beasts are dead, just beat on the pod -- there's an action bar showing that you're doing it -- until the guy shows up.&nbsp At first you might think you have to escort him, but then he says he's OK on his own.&nbsp That's when you HEARTHSTONE back to Feathermoon Stronghold and collect your XP and rewards!&nbsp Good luck.&nbsp May 1, 2006

Sorry I can't be more specific.&nbsp They must have changed this quest since some of the posts.&nbsp This was not an escort.&nbsp Once I released the guy from the cocoon, I just stood there with him for several seconds and he said he could stealth out of there. quest completed :)
now you just need to run out of there (Divine Shield). I managed to escape without dying.

If you look at the map and see the Writhing Deep you will also see two "holes" to the SW that are connected with eachother. The pod is in the left of them.

To get to it, run down the spiralstair and into the cave opening, then you make a right. You will see the pod immedietly after entering the cave "room".
