Broodling Essence (8)
Draco-Incarcinatrix 900
Provided Item:
Draco-Incarcinatrix 900

Description

I have been studying the dragonkin of the Burning Steppes for weeks, and I think I've finally had a breakthrough! I created a device--I call it the Draco Incarcinatrix 900. It can capture the essence of dragon whelp broodlings!

Or, at least I think it can.

Here, take the device and zap a broodling in the Burning Steppes with it. While it's under the device's effects, defeat the broodling and its essence should be released.

If it is, then splendid! Bring me back samples so I can study them!

Any of the small broodlings work for this quest. Fire the device at them, then kill them, and a crystal will spawn. Loot the crystal for the essence.

Also, be careful - the device has a *tiny* range.

Youd better try 90,43.
Many more there, than at the coords above.
Well, at least, when I did the Quest.

Rick

find a broodling dragon, click on it like u are gonna attack from a distance, once your attack sites are locked on to it,&nbsp right click on the gizmo the guy gives u to get the essence.&nbsp You have to get close enough to allow it to work.&nbsp Once you are close enough a bar graph shows up like any spell, or calling your horse, etc. when the bar graph runs through successfully the gizmo will shoot the dragon with some firework like stuff.&nbsp this will not harm the dragon but the dragon will now be encumbered in a purplish fog with circular black streaks, kill the dragon.&nbsp When the dragon dies a reddish orange crystal appears where he fell.&nbsp When you correctly put your sites on it, a gold gear will appear.&nbsp Right click for the gear's bar graph to appear and complete its time.&nbsp A loot window will then appear with a red circular item that is the essnce. click on it.&nbsp now u can do a regular loot on the dead dragon as well.&nbsp As a note i had no trouble for me to complete the aiming and shooting of the dragon with the gizmo.&nbsp I was able to solo this quite easily except for the annoying little scorpions that kept popping up

...it doesn't even need to be your kill...it can be grey for you when it dies...so long as you shoot it when it's alive...

Item isnt a ranged item. Walk up to the dragon Broodlings, I used the black ones,&nbsp and use it. Dont get hit, it interupts the process. Best done with 2 or more people

Put the device on a hotbar for easy access. The device doesn't have a long range, so you'll have to be fairly close to activate it, so you might aggro the whelp by proximity alone. You will defintitely aggro it when you activate the device.

The device acts as a short channeled cast (~2 seconds). If the whelp is already aggroed, its attack could interrupt your device use and force you to repeat it. As such, melee users should use the device to start the fight.

For ranged users, you can attack at range so long as you remember to close the distance to activate the device before you kill the whelp. This shouldn't be a problem for hunters/warlocks who can tank the whelp with a pet. As a mage, I cast fire ward and ice barrier, attacked from range a few times, and then counterspelled one of the whelp's fireballs. The whelp would close to melee range and I'd frost nova it. Then I could use the device without interruption and then hit it with an instant cast or two to kill it.

This quest can easily be soloed since the whelps are all single pulls. Most of the mobs in the area patrol short distances, so just be aware of your surroundings to avoid unwanted adds, particularly the 52+ drakes.

This should be done at the same time as Dragonkin Menace (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=4182), since you need to kill Broodlings for that quest as well.

For druids--Easiest way to do this is sleep the dragonkin, use item, kill and loot.
OR
War Stomp->use item-> kill & loot
(great for all taurens)

I don't see any comments giving correct coordinates for a good bunch of Broodlings.

I found a good spot of atleast 4 or 5. (83.9,61)

I'd also like to say that the Draco-Incarcinatrix 900 is a 2 second cast, while the Broodling Fireball is a 3 second cast.

EDIT: The whole east side of Burning Steppes has atleast 20 Broodlings. Go to the east and there are tons. Go up and down the side of the east mountains. =)

Similar to what someone else suggested, just run right up to the Broodlings and use the Draco Incarcinatrix 900 immediately, before they even react. From what I can tell, they always open with a Fireball, so this will provide you enough time to finish the cast.

If you are a Shaman and are worried about timing it right, drop a Grounding Totem at the start - that will afford you another second or two, since the Fireball will not hit you.

This can be easy, This can be hard if you read the instructions carefully, you should use the device you got from the NPC and then, kill the dragonkins

Its a matter of timing - you need no stun or any other trick spells. Just fire the Draco-Incarcinatrix 900 after he blasts you. It will cycle before the whelp fires again so all you have to do is finish the kill in a normal manner.

You can make it difficult if you try.

Very easy for a druid, just to make sure you dont aggro the dragonkin hibernate them first, then use the device, using the device does not break the hibernate :)

Otherwise a very annoying quest, every dragonkin spawn i went to there were lvl 60s camping and skinning =/

I did this as a 52 Warrior, and it's actually really easy to do.

I just switched to Berserker Stance, used Bloodrage, intercepted the dragon broodling and then immediatly used the Draco-Incarcinatrix 900 on it. Then you just kill it, and right click the crystal that pops up after.

They'res tons of Dragon Broodlings just outside of Morgan's Vigil, just go out and turn right, and they're all over the place. =)

You can probably do it as any class too, all you have to do is stun it for the easiest. Or you don't even have to at first, I'd let it shoot me, then as soon as he fires use the Draco-Incarcinatrix 900. It will finish before it fires again =D

1. look for black broodlings in the North East corner of the map
2. attack them. when they get to 20% health hit them with a stun of some sort
3. use the device given to you by the quest to cast the spell on them
4. once the black cloud appears on them finish them off. collect the crystal

PS. If you are attacking Elite mobs you are attacking the wrong thing!

Just go to the east wall of the zone and you'll find plenty of Black Broodlings (around level 51). Keep an eye on possible elite adds.

At lvl 60:

Rep increase with Steamwheedle Cartel increased by 250, almost 5g (4,96 if memory serves)

As a frost mage it's really easy, just use Ice Barrier and Fire Shield, go close to the whelp (if you're 60 you can use the item without drawing aggro from it but it's hard cause it's moving) , take it down.

Note that even if you draw aggro, black whelps (top right corner in Burning Steppes) do fire damage, so you got plenty of time before you even start taking damage.

As a rogue i found the easiest method for this was to use stelth to get within range, use the incarcinatrix, this takes you out of stealth but gives enough time to cast and sometimes attack before the fireball is cast.

Not sure if it would work but you could also try to kick before before the fireball is cast.
