The Test of Righteousness

Speak to Jordan Stilwell in Ironforge

Description

Actually, I have no doubt that Jordan himself would like to thank you, and seeing as I need a messenger to send word that his wife is safe, I think you'd be a perfect choice.

Jordan was to be a paladin of the Light before his dedication to his father's craft took him on another path--he's intimately familiar with our way of life and is considered among our most faithful.

He should still be in Ironforge--he likes to work outside the gates during the day, something about the cool mountain air.

This is a walkthrough that explains how to get the awesome two handed mace, Verigans Fist, which is a great weapon that will be your main weapon of choice from level 20 up to level ~ 35. I started the quest at level 23 and ended it at level 25, which included a Deadmines run. Including Deadmines, it took me about 4-5 hours to complete this quest, but depending on traveling time, it may take some players longer

The first part of this quest becomes available at level 20 and starts by speaking to Dunthorian Rall in Stormwind Cathedral. He gives you a quest called The Tome of Valor and tells you to go protect Daphne Stillwell in Westfall. Daphne is located on the southwest corner of Westfall in the hills South of the exit from the Deadmines. If you look at the map, shes on the shore just east of the lighthouse in the south. Speak to Daphne and the quest will start.

I was level 23 when I completed this part, and I was able to do it solo using Smites Mighty Hammer and Judgment of the Crusader/Seal of Righteousness. There are three waves of 3, 4 and 5 Defias respectively, who run up and try to kill Daphne, you need to kill them all and keep Daphne alive. It took a few times, but if you heal often you should hold most of the aggo off of Daphne and be able to kill all the Defias pretty easily. I did have a problem once when I died right before I killed all but one of Defias. Daphne was apparently able to kill the last one off on her own, and when I returned she had a greyed out question mark over her head and was cheering that we had succeeded. I needed to abandon the quest, and then re-acquire it by speaking to Daphne again and then re-killing the Defias. This time it worked fine and I completed the quest. Ive head that on some servers theres a bug where Daphne doesnt show up and you have to wait for a server reboot for her to spawn, but I havent encountered this.

After the Tome of Valor is complete, Daphne tells you to speak to Dunthorian Rall, who tells you to speak to Jordan Stillwell who is outside the gates of Ironforge. This starts The Test of Righteousness quest. Jordan tells you he will make you a great weapon if you bring him 4 items. He gives you a note that tells you where to find these items. The items are: 1) Whitestone lumber, 2) Jordans Refined Ore, 3) Jordans Smithing Hammer, 4) Purified Kor Gem

1) Whitestone Lumber

This is the only part that I didnt do solo. The lumber drops off of the goblin woodcarvers in the Deadmines instanced dungeon in Moonbrook. I got mine early in the Mast Room, but it will drop off a goblin eventually. Just dont be a jerk and abandon your group after you get the lumber unless youve told them that you will do so beforehandBe aware that I think the lumber will drop if you have the Tome of Valor active but you dont know that you need it yet! I seem to remember selling the lumber earlier after I did the Deadmines for the first time, so save it!

2) Jordans Refined Ore

Go to Loch Modan and speak to Bailor Stonehand in Thelsamar. Bailor is in one of the houses in Thelsamar proper. He tells you to go to the Mo'grosh Stronghold and get Jordan's Ore Shipment. The Mo'grosh Stronghold is located in Loch Modan in the northeast corner of the map. Jordan's Ore Shipment is located in the middle of the areas where the orgres are, near a broken wagon, behind a large tree. Its located OUTSIDE of the caves and dungeons, so dont bother going inside any caves looking for it (like I did!). The ogres are pretty easy to solo, and many of them may already be dead if you do this quest during peak playing times when other players are around. This is the easiest of the quests to do quicklyit shouldnt take you more than 5-10 minutes. Bring Jordan's Ore Shipment to Bailor Stonehand and he will give you Jordans Refined Oredone!

3) Jordans Smithing Hammer

Oh lordthis is a tough one, but it can still be done solo with patience, but if you can find another pally to do this with it will make your life MUCH easier (but on my server I could never seem to find one). I did this solo, so these instructions describe how I did it alone.

You dont need to speak to an NPC for this one, just travel to Silverpine Forest. Shadowfang Keep is located just north of Pyrewood Village in Silverpine. Getting to Silverpine is tough if you havent already discovered a griffon route to Southshore. The easiest way is to take a griffon to Southshore in Hilsbrad and then walk west into Silverpine. Alternatively, you can take a griffon to the Wetlands and walk north into Arathi Highlands, west into Hilsbrad, then west into Silverpine. Youll need to dodge some level 35 mobs along the way, stick to the roads and you should be OK.

Shadowfang Keep is a horde instance with horde quests, and youll often see horde in queue waiting to enterhopefully they wont gank a lone pallybut dont count on it, so move quickly.

Once youre in the instance youll notice a large gate in front of you that is closed. Youll need to enter via door on the right, which has a room with two mobs, a Shadowfang Wolfguard and a Wolfguard Worg. These are the two mobs youll most likely encounter in this instanceand they tend to travel in pairs, and are very hard to aggro alone (dont you hate it that we dont have long range pulling ability!), most likely youll aggro them both. Just run to the area in front of the exit from the instance and stop. Then concentrate on killing ONLY 1 of the mobs while the other wails on you. Hopefully you can kill one of the mobs before dying, then exit the instance and heal and wait for mana regen. Then re-enter the instance and kill the second mob. This is the technique I used for this whole instance 1) Aggro 2 mobs 2) Run to exit of instance 3) Kill one mob 4) Exit instance 5) Heal and regen 6) re-enter instance 7) Kill second mob 8) Rinse and repeat!

Once youve killed the Wolfguard and Worg in the room on the right, go up the stairs and use the above techniques to kill the rest of the mobs on the landings, just remember to run to the instance exit once youve aggrod them. I died a few times doing this anyway, and its a long corpse runvery frustrating.

Once youve climbed the stairs and landings youll come to a long hallway, at the end of the hallway is a room on the left with more Wolfguards and Worgs, on your right is a locked door (more on that in a minute). Take a minute to look behind you. Once you aggro the next group of mobs, youll be running down this hallway to get to the instance exit, instead of taking the stairs, jump over the railing onto the first landing, then run to the opening in the railing to fall onto the second landing, then turn right and jump over the railing to enter the first room you entered, turn right to get to the instance exit. Practice doing this a few times without having mobs chasing you. If you do this well itll prevent excess damage while running away to the instance exit and give you a few extra seconds to heal etc. once you get there.

Ok, once youve turned left at the end of the hall and killed the mobs in that room, go down the stairs, into the jail room. There will be a few worgs and wolguards here, draw them out, two at a time, to the instance exit as described above. In addition, youll find the boss of this area, Rethigore, in the jail room as well. Try NOT to pull Rethilgore with both a worg and a wolfguard, or else youll probably die. However, I was able to kill Rethilgore and one wolfguard at the instance exit pretty easily.

OK..now open the middle jail cell and speak to the NPC there. Follow him and he will open the door at the end of the hall letting you into the courtyard behind the gate you saw when you first entered the instance. From the open door there are stairs going down into a courtyard with a TON of mobs in it. THE STABLES ARE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU ACROSS THE COURTYARD, YOU WILL ENTER THE STABLES USING THE LEFT SIDED ENTRANCE AND JORDANS SMITHING HAMMER IS SITTING ON A BOX ON THE RIGHT JUST INSIDE THE ENTRANCE TO THE STABLES.

Now, there are some people who say you can just shield and run into the stables, grab the hammer, and run out, but I was never able to do this. It takes a while for you to grab the hammer as its just like opening a chestwith about a 4-6 second delay. My shield always ran out before I got the hammer, but mines only speced for 8 secs, so if you have a longer Divine Shield you may be able to do it

Instead I went down the stairs and stayed close to the wall/gate on the left and pulled mobs out to the instance exit as described above. Theres a new mob here, the Haunted Servitor. Theyre not hard to kill, but they will haunt you if they get the chance, which means a ghost with about 50 hp will appear and attack you every minute for about 5 minutes. Its annoying as theyre easy to kill, but try to pull mobs right after you kill a ghost so they dont get in the way.

Just stay to the far left and just pull those mobs that are between you and the left stable entrance, only pull two at a time, max. Once the way is clear youll be tempted to run into the stables and grab the hammer, but once you enter the stables, another Haunted Servitor will jump from above and attack you, just run back up the stairs to the hallway and kill itTHEN go and grab the hammer! Success! Whew that was a pain!

4) Purified Kor Gem

Travel to Auberdine via a boat in Menethil Harbor and speak to Thundris Windweaver in Auberdine, Thundris is located in a house in Auberdine, hes looking out over the water. He will give you the quest for Seeking the Kor Gem. Remember, you MUST speak to Thundris and get the quest, or the Kor Gem will never drop! Thundris tells you do not go alone and thats probably good advice, but you can do this solo (I did). Travel south in Darkshore, then continue south in Ashenvale, once you enter Ashenvale, turn west, then north and enter the Zoram Strand, there you will find the entrance to the Blackfathom Deeps.

Jump down into the deeps, then swim to enter some caves. Note: at the end of these caves is an entrance to the instanced dungeon YOU DO NOT NEED TO ENTER THE INSTANCE TO GET THE CORRUPTED KOR GEM, although it will drop in the instance, as well as in the caves that precede the instance. The Corrupted Kor Gem will drop from Blackfathom Oracles, Blackfathom Tide Priestess, (it will drop from Blackfathom Sea Witchs as well within the instance). These creatures look like mermaids and theyre found in the caves before the instance entrance. There are also stealthed stayrs in these caves, you probably cant take on more than two oracles/satyrs at a time, so be careful with your pulls. You can try to do this part during busy times on the server, as itll let you get farther into the caves, with the downside of having more competition for Oracles and Tide Pristesess.

Alternatively, you can camp at the entrance to the caves and just kill Oracles and Tide Priestess until the Corrupted Kor Gem drops. You can get another quest Researching the Corruption from Gershala Nightwhisper in Auberdine who wants 8 Corrupted Brainstems, which you can get here as well, making it a two for one. In my case the Corrupted Kor Gem dropped after killing about 10 oracles, but Ive heard of it taking moore. Its easiest to do this with a pickup group in the caves, but not necessary.

Once you have the Corrupted Kor Gem, speak to Thundris Windweaver and hell give you a Purified Kor Gem.

Well youre done! Go back to Ironforge and speak with Jordan Stillwell, hell tell you to wait, and youll get the awesome Verigans Fist for all your hard work. Hope this helps!

If you fail the first time in trying to protect Daphne Stilwell, simply abandon the quest and go back to daphne and she will give you a second chance to protect her. You cannot get the quest again going back to stormwind, you have to go back to her instead.

If you are having trouble with the gem, remember that even though you are outside the instance you can run away from the mobs into the water. The Oracle's are the only ones that can go into the water and they will only chase you so far because they cast. I was able to have to only kill 4 Oracles before the gem dropped and was lucky enough to only have to go thru 2 other mobs. Solo'd it and never even got close to the instance door.

Duthorian Rall at the cathedral in Stormwind will give you the level 20 pally quest. Once you complete that, go back to DR in SW and he will send you to Jordan Stillwell.

I just wanted to mention (I didn't see if it was mentioned) to keep up your concecrate (if you don't have it, no matter what spec you have its a nice investment especially when helping lower level people than you that plus ret aura, you don't have to even touch lower level monsters) it helped me take the aggro when protecting the lady in Westfall, it helped me solo the quest at level 22 (I didn't even have to bubble!) just remember even the little time you get between waves, drink and eat so that you have a little something to go with... even that little time makes a difference. I think I started out with Devo aura and ended with ret aura, ended up killing half of them with ret+concecrate and finishing the rest off with crusader judgement paired with seal of righteousness and rigthteous judgement! Good luck!

(i'm still working on the other parts of the quest myself, but I know its confusing try to get the quest, just remember you need to FINISH the Tome of Divinity series, then you MUST have the second part of "The Test of Righteousness" in your journal in order to recieve the quest in Darkshore (auberdine) that gets the gem in BFD!)
