As of 2.3 if you abandon the quest while on the last step, The Rod will disappear....However if you talk to Raene Wolfrunner again she will have an option where you can say you lost your rod. Choose that and she will give you another Rod....Just did this 2 minutes ago. ^_^

3050xp at lvl29 for the just last stage of the quest. The rewards sell for about 60S each, so if you're a filthy rich 60, then rod would make a nice toy to keep. XD

This whole chain quest gives either:
17385xp
1825 reputation with Darnassus
http://classicdb.ch/?item=1116
http://classicdb.ch/?item=17046 or http://classicdb.ch/?item=5815

OR

14335xp
1575 reputation with Darnassus
http://classicdb.ch/?item=5462

Depending on whether you do the last step or not.
Personally I think the rod that turns you into a furlbog is much better than any of the other things!

who'd want to finish this quest? all 3 of the rewards are serious crap, compared to the cool rod. if you want ring, run vc for blue ring drop, if you want 1h axe, run vc for smites 1h axe, if you want 2h, run vc for smites 2h. the 75dmg proc might be great if you do this quest at an early lvl, but it'll soon be outdated, when the rod on the other hand, is inreplaceable and will be fun straight to 60 inless you get bored with it. i don't understand why anyone would actualy finish the quest, abandon it, and keep the transform rod.

it DOES take away the rod for finishing it, see below.(if it didn't take rod away, it wouldnt be listed as needed)
"Items Needed:
(1) Ran Bloodtooth's Skull
Unique
Quest Item
(1) Dartol's Rod of Transformation
Binds when picked up
Unique
Quest Item
Use: Transforms you into a Furbolg for 3 minutes."

The rewards for this quest are very, very easily replaceable.

There is nothing else in the game that turns you into a Furbolg. Keep the rod.

I agree with everyone who suggests to keep the rod. This quest is well worth the trouble of doing to the part where you get the unlimited-charged rod to grant you the ability to turn into a furbolg.

Consider that people pay tons of gold on savory deviate delights or Nogenflogger elixirs that turn you into something (not always guaranteed) for an hour or so and then wears off forever. This is because there aren't many silly things available that lets a player change their appearence so dramatically.

THIS rod has a 1 minute cooldown and lets you transform into a furbolg for 3 minutes! How cool is that!&nbsp I wish a Horde quest had something like this!

Keep the rod. It really has ulimited charges. I use it all over, especially on boat rides between Kalimdor and Azeroth and it really entertains the people on board ) It's a real pity you can't do emotes in this form like dancing. This will always lead to back transforming you.

Anyway, there seems to be a another quest for the Alliance where you can transform into a skeleton. You may have seen this on boats too )

Okay, here's the drill. If you are making a lvl 19 twink that can use two handed Maces, turn in the quest and get the Glacial Stone. The Frost proc, in addition to Crusader, is GODLY because the weapon's slow speed means that both effects will proc on like, every other hit. I am making a twink warrior, and I will have this weapon. However, if your class cannot use Maces (like a Hunter), or if you are planning to level your character beyond 19, then do whatever, I don't care.

There is already simple way to keep Dartol's Rod of Transformation without destroying anything.

As mentioned above; do Raene's Cleansing(10th step) and turn it. After successfully completed 10th step, Krolg will give you 11th step of chain. Just don't accept new step and keep rod.

The exp, rewards, money for this quest are nothing special, all can be made up for with another quest, and the rews WILL be replaced soon, but you will NEVER find an item like that again, completely free too, people spend huge amounts on orb of deception.

I started this quest at level 20-ish and finished it at level 60 purely for this rod.

this rod is greatest!

i have started this quest chain at 58 lvl only for this rod. abandoned just gotten rod.

reward for quest may be cool for WSG 10-19, but it is NOTHING. In two weeks you will forget about such crappy reward forever!

But rod will be cool always, even on lvl 70.

and btw
DON'T FINISH QUEST! or you will lost rod, forget about this quest. you have greatest rod!

This quest is a waste of time. I mean it. No real reward and 3050 XP @ lvl 27. YES! 3050 final after 2 hrs of running all around Ashenvale! THIS IS A JOKE!

If you wanna do this line - just stop as soon as you reenchant that rod. THAT is a cool reward - insta-furbolg-change. Then just hit abandon quest. Really...

This quest really bugged me, for one, through this entire quest you're running up and down ashenvale, as far down as near the barrens (seriously, didn't know that the ooze things dropped the chest, so I spent about an hour in the barrens trying to find it, at least I got the guy on dreadmist for that quest, but kind of annoyed me seeing that there was a 25'ish mixed in with all those level tens, think of all the hordies he must have under his belt, but that's a different quest). Second, through it all, you'll kill a BUNCH of furbolgs, corrupted though they are, but not one satyr (remember xabbraxis and the blackwoods, plus the guy at the end of the exalted level timbermaw quest is, so I've heard, another satyr). And, 3rd of all, you lose your furbolginess for two crap items, which I now regret, guess I'll have to wait till 60 to furbolgify. Ughh. /cry I really hope in a later expansion furbolgs become a playable race, but I wonder if dartol's rod would just be a way of changing colors, hmm.

Well, because of my idiocy, I'm out of charges for Dartol's rod of transformation. Is there any way to get it recharged? I've tried checking back at the hidden shrine, the dryad, and the quest starting npc, but nothing has worked yet. Am I hosed? I tried to contact a GM on this, but haven't received a reply yet.

Well, when I killed Bloodtooth for the first time I somehow missed to take his skull, so I had to go back and kill him again. Not a real problem at lvl 31 except from all the wolves and spiders which are rather hard to avoid. Killing them all along the way (and back) is rather boring because I won't get any points and even skinning the wolves doesn't help much to raise my skills.
Getting to Bloodtooth is much more a task than actually taking him out and it's really a pain in the ass without much gaming fun.

I now have a lovely magical wand and I can smile like a Furbolg.

A long run but you find many a short cut in Ashenvale.

The hardest part was the shrine to get the wand charged...I expected something bigger not a glowing rock.

Still I have now by lovely magical wand.

I didn't waste any charges before reaching the named furbig, and not uptill I finished the quest, but then I just went berserk and kept remaking myself Furbig whenever I could. It's extremelly cool to "change" into travel form as a forbig since you just get a running forbig :)

Then I proceeded to Hearthing to IF, and made myself Forbig about 5 more times. The rod doesn't seem to ran out.
That is why I wanted to keep it, and didn't hand in the quest yet (32lvl Druid).
So I wonder, is there a way to keep it? Are there really no charges anymore so I can use it forever?

Some points regarding the quest itself:
1.First It's such a long quest! when I started it I had no idea it'll just drag and drag with multiple especially draging activities like looking for stuff you don't really know where to look for (and even if you do find a path, it just has to be THAT long to follow, right?)
2.Secondlly, Do not make any mistakes:
A. The RIGHT furbig is the one that has a path leading towards it, near the end of the path you'll see burning torches, a fallen tree on a lake, and a small Furbig hut with a lvl 9 Named Furbig near it. Be Carefull not to kill it!
This place is right next to Merit Lake (as told in the quest), and is quite closer then the other place where you might get, which you need to reach later.
B. The second place, is about South of the first place, If you can see on the map it's in a closed permieter. Anyway, you just need to go round the mountains and then go south.
When you kill the leader, it DOES'NT say you need the skull, but it drops from him, and moving the curser on it 'reveals' that it's a quest item. Be sure to take it so you won't have problems completing the quest.
Upon returning and talking to the Furbig, he says you need to go "to your tribe" to receive the rewards, since you don't have one, the quest text says to return to Raene in Astranar.

Edit: What is it with this area (Darkshore,Ahenvale,BlackFathom Deeps) with +X SPIRIT +1 STAMINA ring rewards?
-in The tower of Astranax (or whatever the name) series you can get a +3SPI +1STA ring (or a staff which is downright useless).
-in BlackFathom Deeps, the IF brought Quest: Knowledge in the deeps gives you a +4SPI +1STA ring.
And this quest, gives you a +6SPI +1 STA ring.
all of those genuinelly suck, and appearantlly suppose to replace each other? Couldn't they at least make the last ring add +2 STA?
