It's Dangerous to Go Alone

Travel to Fire Plume Ridge, south of Marshal's Refuge.

Find Blazerunner and use the totem to remove his protective aura. Once he has been defeated, acquire the Golden Flame from the cave.
  •
Blazerunner slain
Golden Flame
Silver Totem of Aquementas
Provided Item:
Silver Totem of Aquementas

Description

<name>, I finally remember now... I did come here to fight Blazerunner. I was on a journey, and this was to be the last step.

But I am no longer the hero... You are. All that you have done -- you must finish this now, not me.

Blazerunner guards an artifact called the Golden Flame. It provides power more vast than anything else I have ever known, and it is dangerous in the hands of one with an evil heart.

You will want to bring others with you -- it's dangerous to go alone. Take this as my advice.

Easiest tactic to kill this level 56 elite is as follows.

Clear all the top level of Fire plume Ridge. When engaging, run straight to the back of the cave, he will follow. This will ensure you do not get knocked off the cliffs with his ability as your inside.

Once at the back of the cave, use the rod to remove his almost invincible aura. Nearly all forms of crowd control work here, frost nova, fear, stun. Make sure he never receives his aura back, and it should be either solable or in a group of 2.

Quest chain, from start to finish for all steps, is worth 82250 xp. It's a good quest to do when the server is busy since you won't have to worry about competing for mobs and such. A lot of travelling though.

I found an easy way to get to Blazerunner by killing one or two elementals max.

1) Go to 47, 52
2) There's a cliff, you need to pass to its right. Try to jump, you may have a little trouble here, but it shouldn't take long.
3) Go to 47, 49
4) There's another cliff, but it's easy to climb.
5) Finally, go to 48, 49
6) Another cliff, also easy.

You should be right next to Blazerunner. Though, you won't aggro him if you pay attention. I suggest you to run in the cave like mikedoh said.

If you don't kill him fast, you may have to cast the spell to remove his aura. I figured it out after two deaths :p

Good luck !

It's important to note that his 'aura' does not show up as a debuff! I made the mistake of fighting him and waiting to look for some kind of aura buff before using the totem. Instead, begin the fight by using the aura-removing totem on him. Fighting in the cave works well. The aura shows up as a king of blue shield around him, as soon as you use the totem this will dissapear and he will attack. From there go all out.

Soloed him as a lvl 60 enhance shammy, and survived with barely 23 hp left, not at all an easy fight.

I was 53 paladin with several 52-53 friends backing me up. He hits very hard with lots of fire damage and the knockback/up is a real pain. The shaman got lobbed into the lava the first time through and bit it.

All he dropped was some "burning pitch", but then you aren't killing him for his loot drops.

Make sure you have the Silver Totem in your off-hand before the fight and REMEMBER TO USE IT ON BLAZERUNNER. That may sound like a stupid thing to say but it is really easy to just fall into your standard combat habits and just try to brute force him and forget to bring down his protective shield. I put it on one of my on-screen buttons so it would be easy to trigger.

Remember, you have to go into his cave and loot the box there to get the "Golden Flame" to complete the quest. You might want to share this fact with the party beforehand so they don't think you are ninja'ing a chest from them.

Went back to Marshal's Refuge and turned it all in for my boomerang! Then I had to log because it was really late. I can't wait to use it tomorrow night!

Finally soloed Blazerunner today with my lvl 58 druid. Took 5 tries though at first tried duking it out but my dire bear kept getting a lava bath. Finally tried casting against him and found entangling roots more effective than expected, allowing me to star/moonfire/wrath him again & again and also let my mana recharge a bit as long as the roots held out. Only needed 1 mana pot, but had to take his shield down several times. They could've given a better reward though the boomerang is a bloody joke, my druid can't use a sword and the orb is nice but in itself not enough.

He is a lvl 56 Elite Fire Elemental so he has full immunity to fire, and hits prety hard.

He is not so tough though once you get his shield down, and you might have to do it ONCE MORE during the fight if it comes back.
This will depend on how fast you dmg him, ive had to do it once at 57% and once at 20% so might be time related.

Once shield is up will knock back like a mofo and MT will go flying all over the place, and usually on other fire elementals around the place, so make sure you clear them up before goin for him although they respawn prety fast.

Once you kill him dont forget to get loot from the chest in the cave!

Then leave:)

Duoed Blazerunner today with a 60 Shamman, me being a 57 Warrior. Knocked back only one major healing potion and got one heal from Shamman. The hardest part of this quest was that I was the one doing it, so I couldn't use a 2h weapon (due to the offhand to drop his shield). But once his shields drop his hp are soon to go as well. Relatively easy. Sword isn't spectacular but the 3.5g from isn't a complaint at all.

blazerunner has an annoying move that knocks you away and if you arent careful you might fall into the lava that takes HUGE damage off you, so its best to run past him and fight in the small cave.

Remember to use the totem that you have on him to dispel his aura else you will not complete the quest even if you kill him. I did this and had to abandont the quest before killing him a fourth time to get the transformed totem.

Him: a lvl 56 elite elemental with an aura that does fire damage and knocks you back and into the air.

Us: 53 Hunter (me) and 47 Paladin.

Okay, so we tried this first in the morning, and we almost killed him, but like idiots we forgot to use the totem to break his aura first (what can I say, after the 12 steps before this you get a little distracted, lol). However, we were encouraged by the fact that we got him down to low health without it. On the second attempt we ran into the back of the cave (so that if his aura does return and you get knocked around you don't go flying into the lava and burn to death) healed up and prepared for another round.

This time I set the pet on him, the paladin ran up and broke his aura then proceeded to heal the pet while I just loaded arrows into him. I used one mana potion and had to help the pally heal pet when she ran back in to break his aura again (it came back and I got knocked around a bit... so it's good to be in the cave ^_^ ). After that we had it in the bag. We just kept up with the arrows and the healing. Pretty easy battle the second time around. We were really proud of ourselves.

Good Luck!

My first attempt to solo this quest I got him to about 15-20% and ran out of mana. My second attempt he charged me and kept a constant knock back on me till I fell down the mountain and died. I was contemplating going to buy a Fire Protection potion for my 3rd attempt, but pride persuaded me not to:). All went well on this attempt. My voidwalker held enough aggro for my initial dots. Right about time he got wasted I got my sacrifice off. Death Coil helped me renew a couple dots. Feared him twice and cast shadowbolt in between for the win. I'm surprised him being 3 levels higher than me there was not more resistance to my spells. Not an easy fight at that level though.

Completed this quest chain last night thanks to an extremely helpful 60 Mage who was farming outside the cave. I (54 Pally) used the totem to keep Blazerunner's shield down while the mage (who was shocked at how hard the guy hits) took him out. Afterwards, it was pretty exciting to turn in and finish this very, very long quest chain. Thank goodness I had a book to read during those long rides between zones though. . .

As for the rewards: they are nothing compared to most blues or epics you can get at the same level, but are fantastic for those of us who grew up on the original LoZs. The Master Sword is more novelty than anything, but the 1.8 sec speed is respectable for lower lvl mobs (running younger guildies through Deadmines, etc). Linkens Boomerang, however, (and the gobs of exp for the chain quest) is well worth it. Yes it has a 1 sec cast time and a 3 min cooldown, and yes there are plenty of other trinkets that are far better, but the humor factor makes this a lot of fun to have. Nothing like being able to say, "Can I pull this one?" and then have party members ask what in the world the pally just threw. Thanks to all those who posted advice on how to do the quest chain because this pally is enjoying his new toys.

Soloed this with my level 56 hunter with no deaths.

Cleared out the elementals surrounding the cave, then sicked my pet on Blazerunner. You should wait a tic for him to trigger his aoe, then rush straight to the back of the cave and fd.

After your pet dies revive him and buff up. Lay a frost trap in front of you, just in case you get agro, sick pet on him, and blast away.

He stays in the cave entrance, so you can sit out of aoe range and plug him. Run up when your pet gets low, heal the pet and continue to plug away.
